This is such an incredible video, I'm so glad I found your channel today! Such a brilliant idea to get her to try the horse you were surprising her with! Great video❤
Thank you so much that is so sweet, I am doing my best that's for sure! My channel is still new though so I plan to keep working on it and I have a lot of video ideas planned!
It really comes down to preference! Thoroughbreds are very common, they're super fast. There's also Argentine Thoroughbreds which are generally shorter, stocky and more handy. But there's also Quarterhorses, I've even seen Arab/TB crosses play polo. Generally no warmbloods though because they're generally too big.
@@haileyliberty4640 awesome thank you for the info. are appaloosa crosses good? I'm really short so I'm looking into something small for me personally.
@@pughorse1718 Yes totally! My friend has an awesome leopard appy gelding. Basically anything with a calm and smart brain can play polo with enough time and training!
As a non polo person, how do you break them without lunging? My barn has horses in to be broken all the time and they use the lung to teach them voice cues and to introduce tack...
Lots of ground work, my family trains and sells horses for a living and we do a lot of stuff in a round pen and in the arena working on their manners etc. Slowly showing them tack and the mounting block. Lunging or a round pen are normally best for getting the buck out, but for the horses who don’t really buck we slowly start putting our foot in the stirrup and then getting down, gradually getting on over time and lots of patience. Idk how other polo facilities break horses in but that’s kind of how we do it!
I’ve only been riding for a couple of months (can’t even canter off the lead-rein yet), but from personal experience, being hit with the whips/crops doesn’t hurt at all. I’ve been hit a bunch of times by the long lunge-whips on bare ankles and didn’t feel a thing. I also hit myself with my crop before using it on the horse and it was only very slightly uncomfortable (+ I hit myself a lot harder than I would hit a horse, I hit myself one the palms - one of the most sensitive parts of the human body, and horses have fur). I believe the big whips are used to encourage the horse to go faster with their sound, whilst the crops are used to give them quick cues.
I can say that I was very VERY surprised!! Thank you so much for everything, can’t wait to go shopping for her 😁
SAME
Congratulations! 🎉
That was a very sweet video
9:30
horse: “you want me to run in a circle?”
lunger: yes.
horse: “but for what”
lunger: why not?
horse: “but you did this for what”
This is the funniest comment I've read.

what breed is best for polo? I'm curious in going into polo or endurance honestly.

i hate it when i see people hiting the horse just to go faster, the horse has a life just like you
That’s literally how you ride a horse
@@lealagaming5619 hurting the horse is how you ride it? that sounds dumb
