Pressure head of liquids
In fluid mechanics, pressure head is the height of a liquid column that corresponds to a particular pressure exerted by the liquid column on the base of its container. It may also be called static pressure head or simply static head (but not static head pressure).
What is a head in fluid mechanics?
In fluid dynamics, head is a concept that relates the energy in an incompressible fluid to the height of an equivalent static column of that fluid. ... Velocity head is due to the bulk motion of a fluid (kinetic energy). Its pressure head correspondent is the dynamic pressure.

How do you convert head to pressure?
In simple terms, the mathematical constant 2.31 converts a unit of energy against gravity into a unit of force against any other area. This constant converts a foot of head of water into pressure: Head in feet of water divided by 2.31 equals pressure in psi, and pressure in psi times 2.31 equals head in feet
What is difference between pressure and pressure head?
By definition, 'Head' is a measure of energy. The units of energy are feet (or meters). 'Pressure' is a force applied against a unit of area such as a pound of force applied to a square inch of area (psi).
What is the head pressure of water?
The relationship between PSI and feet of head is that 2.31 feet of head = 1 PSI. Translated, that means that a column of water that's 1-inch square and 2.31 feet tall will weigh 1 pound. Or, one-foot column of water that's 1-inch square weighs . 433 pounds.
How do you calculate water head pressure?
Divide the depth in inches by 27.71-inches/psi, or the depth in feet by 2.31-feet/psi which are the English unit conversion factors. The result is the water head pressure expressed in psi.
