Walthamstow residents await the results on a referendum deciding whether cinemas could open on Sundays (1932). Join this channel to get access to perks: / @britishpathe
My Canadian province voted on Sunday opening back in the 1990s. Before that, only small shops and essential services could be open. There were debates, tv shows, endless newspaper stories even tv commercials! Finally after the standard 6 weeks , we voted to allow sunday opening with the caveat that no employee can be forced to work the sabath if it interferes with their faith or worship.
It destroyed our community. I'm a retail worker, butcher and I never had another weekend off till a couple years ago. It's been lonely not being able to attend events etc.
Why should everything shut on Sunday just because of other people's beliefs? What if you're not a god warrior? If christians don't want to participate in activities then they don't have to, but they shouldn't insist that everyone else follow their rules.
@nietzchepreacher9477 Yes, it's true. "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it." Exodus 8-11. Taken from the King James version.
Here in New York State USA we called this BLUE LAWS, back in 1970 only a few food supermakets could be open on Sunday mornings. Their aisles of medications, paper goods and sundries where locked up. Slowly the Blue Laws eroded. What is left in 2024 is that no alcholic bevages can be sold or served before 12:00 pm noon Sundays.
You can see some people at the front - NOT happy whatsoever lol. But the cheers or the happy ones nearly made me tear up, such a jolly exclamation about something so innocent (in my eyes).
plenty of things are good if you don't allow the constant need to whinge take over, i should know, i love whinging about games i care about but dont feel too great after
You don’t like having modern medicine? Don’t like any information at your fingertips? Don’t like freedom of speech or dress or expression? You don’t approve of a wide variety of meals available to you now? Women and children being harmed much less? You don’t like the lesser crime rates, safer cars, better fire safety and food quality control regulations? What exactly was better all those decades ago?
The reason so many people work on a Sunday now is that we no longer produce or make anything here in the Uk. There has been a seismic shift in the job market to more tertiary jobs. The Uk government wanted to allow the creation of jobs and had no choice but to allow working on Sundays.
I worked for Waitrose in the early 90s and I remember when they first started Sunday trading. It was initially thought that people would simply transfer their weekly spending to Sunday and that it would create only a slight increase in turnover. This was not the case and in fact Sunday became an important extra revenue stream.
@@originallynot Christian’s rest in Christ. He is my sabbath. But yes many Christian’s believe the sabbath has moved from Saturday and Sunday. And I’m familiar with the arguments they use and have many brothers and sisters who hold that view. I preached at a church last night that are sabbatarians. But personally, I hold the view that Christian’s are not obligated to keep the sabbath but if their conscience does not allow them to break it then they should keep it unto the Lord in accordance with Roman’s 14 as to not sin against their conscience and ultimately Christ.
Why? You think christians should be able to tell people what to do on a Sunday? Not everyone belongs to a church or believes in that stuff. Your rules are for you, not everyone else.
Brits need to start supporting Christian values before it’s to late! If it’s not to late already! Your be soon forced to follow the other religion! 25 years I reckon! Then Britain will change for hundreds of years like Spain did. Like Iran! Lebanon!
No, people should be able to choose whatever they believe in. Islam is not going to take over the UK, the elites/politicians would never want to give up power and lose money
The one man not cheering at the end works for the cinema 😂
“Put that in your pipe and smoke it!”

Yeah, now they force shift workers to do Sundays!! Fantastic..
Lmao.
Sabbath is Saturday
@@nietzchepreacher9477 Not in the Christian week. Sunday is the sabbath in the Christian week.
@James-qb4dz if that's true I didn't know we called sunday sabbath

Bring back Saturday morning Pictures.
Alfred Steptoe looked pissed!
Amazing that that was a major concern....fast forward to now.... Wow what a difference
God and his military were defeated
Good times. Everything sucks now.
I couldn’t disagree more.

True democracy

Here! Here!
@exwhyz9367 That's my name, you rang?
Then everything began to go downhill to this day.
Because of cinemas open on Sundays? Give your head a wobble.

I think mass immigration has more to do with the collapse of Britain, than opening cinemas on Sunday does
Why? Because christians couldn't tell people what to do on Sundays anymore?
I’m not a sabbatarian, but it does the country good to rest a day.
It would do the country a whole lot more good if they found rest in Christ.
No thank you.
In Jesus name. Amen 🙏🏼✝️🤍

I rest by going to the cinema and having a nice time. Why should I be deprived of that for a religion I don't believe in?
And the backsliding accelerated…
Why?

The rise of freedom.
Scary that people actually believe this.
@johnmartinez7440 Don't worry, they're just Americans
Keep cinemas closed on Sunday and go to church where you can watch the hysterical comedy there!!!
@user-dm4pz1ug4e: Very very very clever and tragic!!!
A lost democracy
Shabbat means freedom.

Yup, not anymore

Excellent satire.
Too late
Are you making a terribly poor attempt at humour or are you an actual idiot?
Your argument is pretty much "Let our religion control you and not some other religion."
