Just purchased this lens last week. And OMG! I’m in love with it! I would agree that f/2 has been the most impressive aperture in terms of sharpness. But I also really enjoy the paper thin focal plain I can achieve at f/1.4 for artistic effects. This lens blows all my other lenses out of the park when it comes to indoor low light shooting. It’s also a fun lens for street photography. Colors come out very true and vibrant. I feel like my post processing is so minimal when I’m using this lens. I debated spending the money, but I’m glad I did. Such a joy to use! Worth every penny!
Wow!!! Top-notch production quality, good editing, superb audio in this video. I am impressed. I am a bit of a Tamron fan, but I have overlooked the 35mm 1.4 until now. It looks like an incredible lens. The shots in this video could not be better. No weird distortion, no weird bokeh blobs. No strange contrast business in the background. No color fringing. No chromatic aberration. The shots are exceptional. I will eventually purchase the Canon R5 when its released and I'll use an adapter for this 35MM when I buy it. I sure hope this After Coronavirus life will allow me to travel and see beautiful places to photograph with this lens!
Ahh thank you so much, I really appreciate it and I'm glad you found this helpful! Yeah this is a truely beautiful lens, wish I didn't have to give it back - might have to borrow it again because I wanted to shoot some more on it 😅
I bought Tamron 35mm f1.4 Nikon mount this January and I'm absolutely loving it. It's tac sharp at f/1.4 and focuses quickly without making any noise. Love it!
I was blown away by the build quality and sharpness of my Tamron 15-30. It was my first 3rd party lens, but now I am sold on Tamron. My next lens will be this 35mm.
Love your videos, I use the Canon 35 f/2.0 IS and really enjoy the sharp images taken at slow shutter speeds with IS, I don't have to bump up the ISO to get hand hold-able images. On the other hand, I love the look of f/1.4 and yes I think 1 f/stop makes a difference and this video reveals the quaility to the Tamron 35 f/1.4 @ f/1.4. Before buying my Canon lens I tried out a used Sigma 35 f/1.4 and it had issues with back focus and I was told in the store that that is typical of Sigma but the Tamron seems much better in this regard. Thank You!
Thank-you for this excellent RUclips Video Review, Julia! I have been looking for a 35mm lens for my group portraiture work, and I think this morning you "sold" me on the Tamron SP 35mm f1.4. As always, your video is thoroughly accomplished, with great detail of examples and your thoughts. Also your positive energy and passion for photography is engaging, and reminds me of my own joy of why I love this so much! Thank-you again :)! Scott
Thanks for this review! I was focusing on a Sigma 35mm and I've heard great things about Tamron, but now this confirms it and I'll be looking to pick up the 35mm from Tamron. Thanks Julia! Always an amazing trusted source!
I love my tamron lenses! I have the 35 1.4 and it’s become one of my favorites! You should try the 85 1.8 it’s absolutely phenomenal! I got rid of my Nikkor lenses and have switched to Tamron! Great video! 👏💖
I have dabbled in Tamron's more recent line of lenses, namely Tamron 10-24 f3.5-4.5 VC (for APSC), Tamron 100-400 f4.5-6.3 VC and 35mm f1.8 VC. The builds are terrific and resolution on my higher end Nikons are mind blowing and the savings over buying Nikon glass are substantial.
OMG! I was planning to purchase this lens soon. So happy that you do the review on this lens. Please please make review of this lens with Crop sensor camera body too please!!! I wonder how it performance... because I have Nikon D500 🙏
The performance will be excellent. It's the best AF 35mm lens on the market. Even on a full frame camera, the lens is sharp out to the edges wide open, and only increasingly sharp into the middle of the frame, which is the exact portion of the lens your D500 will use. You might have to do an AF adjustment in camera to calabrate it to the lens though to get the maximum benefit out of it.
I decided to rent out this lens because of this amazing review Julia! However I don't think my focus point was able to keep focus while me and my model were moving around. I shot on a fairly windy day at the beach too and I'd say the ratio between photos in focus to out of focus was 50/50. Not that good. I don't know if this is just a faulty lens. I was shooting at f/1.4 practically the whole time to compensate for how bright it was around golden hour and my shutter was always high to capture movement (especially since it was pretty windy). My focal point is one point in the dead center of the screen. I'm not sure if I got a faulty lens or I need even more of a steady hand or what is wrong.
Im planning to purchase the 35mm lens for my daily kid photoshoot. I found the Sigma 35mm Art have fail focus quite a lot and sold it. My concern that how good the Tamron 35mm1.4 in term of focus accuracy vs the Sigma? Thank you for the video.
Honestly this lense is amazing. You need to try it with backlit sun and you will notice how amazing it truly it is. It has ranked the best 35mm on the market. Ranked higher than first party! I am so happy I got this lense on release day!
I was honestly a little upset it was so overcast while we were shooting haha I love working with the sun! I'm going to shoot with this lens again on a sunny day so we can see how it focuses in back light as well as do some more bokeh tests with a few different backgrounds, since we were limited in that with our beach location this time as well :) And yeah, I can definitely see how it managed to be ranked number 1 I'm sooo happy with it even after a single photoshoot!
@@juliatrotti lol I bet. At least you still captured amazing results! I can't wait to see you do a sunny shoot. Ugh you are going to love it lol. Keep making amazing videos. Maybe one day I can do videos like you to showcase my work!
I purchased it a couple months ago. I have no scientific proof of it being sharper but it just pops. Also, you can’t beat Canon color. Your portraits are really strong in this one. 👏🏼🤘🏼
Great video. I have the 24-70 G2, 85 1.8 and 70-200 G2 and they're all stunning. Would especially love to see you use the 70-200 at 200 and wait for the bokeh to swirl. I typically use primes for portraits, but the zoom blew my mind
Yeah I would love to! I used the f2 version years ago when I borrowed it off a friend to see if I would like the 35mm focal length for portraits (haha look how that turned out!!) and it was great. I'll try to get my hands on it 😊
Tamron is really on a roll these days. I'm super happy with my 24-70mm F2.8 zoom, it has the same impressive sharpness and detail and really good stabilisation too. That Canon 5D mark IV sensor is still super good though! These photos look amazing!
Yes, beats it hands down. The Sigma is great up to around the 24mp territory, but as soon as it heads into higher resolutions like on a d850 or 5DSR, it looses its spark. The Tamron eats high MP sensors for breakfast.
Just bought the Tamron. Found a good price from an authorized dealer for $700USD. I thought the Nifty Fifty was the best bang for your buck but I now feel that this Tamron is an even better bargain.
Julia, I have the Tamron 17-35 and the 35-150. I've used the 35-150 more due to the range and I will just say I've gotten some very beautiful shots with it. The 17-35 was on my EOS 1 Film and I still need to send the roll out for processing... Highly recommend Tamron Lenses
😍😍 Im glad you like the lens Julia. I was a bit nervous if you ever mentioned a downside of this lens. I currently own a tamron 35 f1.8 and planning to upgrade to that lens. Amazing lens indeed and the price is on point!
So far I don't really have any downsides to this lens, I'd love to use it again soon maybe during a sunny day to see how it focuses in back light, but from how it was working on this day with all the wind and a few other backyard tests I've done, I don't think it'll have any issues - I'll make a video about it when I do this! I also have the Tamron 35mm 1.8 version which I'll also be filming a video on + a comparison on the 2 😊
Halooo Julia.. It's 2023 already and wondering whether this Tamron SP 35mm F1.4 is still favorable compare to Sigma Art 35mm F1.4. I am a Canon R6 shooter and is considering one of these two lenses, as RF 35mm is not as sharp as these. May I have your view pls.
Sigma 35mm was released in 2012 right? And Tamron 35mm 1.4 is 2019-2020, 40th anniversary release. Also, it's weather sealed. Online opinion is for Tamron. I also want to be sure.
Firstly, that was a fantastic review. Really love the images really love what you’re looking for in a lens and camera. Secondly, I was wondering did you find the lens to be just as responsive and clear on the EOSR? I love your examples at the end of your review. But I was wondering what your impression of its performance was on the mirrorless camera? I do not have the 5D Mark IV.. I have the 5D Mark III and the EOSR.
I am so sad! I purchased this lens and I'm having so much trouble focusing, but I am not giving up! lol I just bought the tap in mount for canon to try and calibrate the lens. Fingers crossed that it works! if you have any tips I would greatly appreciate them!
If the Eos R had 2 card slots would you still use your Sony or would you stick with canon and why? :) current Sony user (a7riii and a7iii) but picked up an eos r and there’s something so great about it :)
Regardless of card slots I truly love my A7III, so I would stick with that. For me it's fun to have 2 different camera brands to play around with, my Canon DSLR and then the Sony mirrorless. I do agree though that the EOS R is a great camera, takes beautiful photos, great AF, but for some reason - and this is totally subjective personal opinion - I just don't really vibe with it as much as the 5D series that I've been using since the 2 and the A7III. This is my second time using the R (again it's a great camera) but I think I just prefer the Sony version because it's so different to what I'm used to so it makes it fun for me to use :)
Ahhhhh ok I understand!! One thing that kills me is how poor resolution the Sony screens are . When you take a photo and look at the canon’s display it looks beautiful and the song looks odd but..... granted , if you transfer files to a computer then they all look great!
Yes, they are very good lenses, even better than sigma. I have all my lenses from Tamron but if you want to have the best glass from them, be sure you get the G2 or SP versions.
Hi Julia great video! I have a Canon 200d eos, this tamron lens is it compatible with this kind of camera? I wanna try a much better 35 mm lens f 1.4 to my camera which is a basic camera for greater results.
Hi Julia, at 5:18 you mentioned that you bumped up the aperture to 2.8 to shoot a couple more portraits against the ocean. I am a beginner, so maybe it's a silly question, but why did you bump the aperture up?
Usually wide open isn't as sharp as a lens can be, so bringing up the aperture or shooting in different apertures when doing a lens review can give us better a better idea of the range of a lens!
I feel like most of the time her body was sharp and in the zoom her eyebrows and lashes too but not the eyes. For the price it seems incredible good thou 💪🏼
I shoot Sony A9 and A7rii and I can't wait for a native Sony version of this lens , no adapter needed. Its a large lens and I think since Tamron is doing so well making lenses for Sony this year, I hope they surprise us with this lens in E mount. Now I use a manual 40mm f1.2 Voigtlander, but I would love to have an Autofocus lens for the A9 which is an AF gem.
Have they fixed the issue with the Tamron lenses? I really want to get the Tamron 1.4 for my R6 body. Does it work fine taking pictures and video other than its just not stabilized. Or should I just get the Sigma ?
Thank you! I unfortunately never had those lenses at the same time so I wasn’t able to film a side by side comparison. If you’re using a DSLR I would personally go with the Tamron because I experienced a lot of back focusing issues with the Sigma. On a mirrorless, I would really love to try and film a comparison to really be able to see all the differences. I’ll try to work on that as soon as I’m allowed to go out and shoot again!
I have a Sony a7iii, would I be able use this tamron 35mm 1.4 lens with it? And what kind of adapter would I need please. Would I need to get a canon adapter for my Sony a7iii? Love the lens any help would be appreciated.
i’ve really been considering picking one up. ive almost hit submit payment like 5 times. but ive got a canon r7. obviously its a mirrorless crop sensor and this lens was made for a full frame dslr. worried about purchasing it and losing some image quality. do you think it would still be worth purchasing for a mirrorless crop sensor? i know its objective, but. would YOU do it?
Can you tell me how was the chromatic aberration was in this lens.....I remember testing the tamron 35 1.8 vc some time ago in an expo.....and it had terrible chromatic aberration.....and I dont know whether it was a problem with that particular copy....
Hi Julia, I love your videos, I'm using the canon 50mm 1.2 as my only lens currently for everything, on a crop sensor body, I love natural light photography, people, plants, animals and travel etc, I just want to have one lens and work with it, would you say this was better in that regard? And for semi pro use?
On a DSLR I fixed mine back focus with the sigma tool. Then I bought the Sigma with E-Mount for my mirrorless A7III and I there doesn't exist any back or front focus. I tried it with 4 different copies of the lens.
@@f0t0b0y , that sounds very good. It seems to be a good Lens. Anyway, just wanted to let everybody know, that the Sigma Art 35mm f1.4 was on my Canon 5D after the adjustmend tack sharp, too.
Hello Julia, Tamron 35mm F1.4 is on my wishlist of 2020. I currently use Tamron 24 70 F2.8 G2 as main and I am very happy with my lens. It would be awesome if you could make a video with 24 70 G2 lens. I want to know how you feel about the lens.
Lovely Julia, thank you a lot for all you amazing video’s. The are such a inspiration I love it. Could you make a foto where you go true al your settings and explain why you do it like this? Or van you make a elearing programme about your settings that we can buy? I am so excited!! Xx
Thank you so much!! I have a video on my channel (if you search through most popular) about how I shoot in manual where I show how I change my settings depending on the situation, but I could do this again at an actual photoshoot too :D
Julia Trotti hi Julia, thank you so much for your replay! I have seen that video several times and I love it. An updated video will be really nice. I really like that you have a very own style, it reminds me of fairytails because you’re pictures are always so dreamy, I love that! ❤️
I've been waiting for Tamron to make a 35 for Sony full frame. I ended up getting the Sony 35 1.8 for now as I just recently purchased an A7iii for Black Friday. love your informative videos! ;)
I'm torn right now. This lens is $200 off here in the states. I'd really like to add a F1.4 lens to my wedding lenses. I love my Canon 35mm F2 IS though also. I mainly shoot my Tamron 24-70mm 2.8 G2 and Tamron 70-200 2.8 G2 for weddings, but pick moments for using my Canon 85mm 1.8 and my Canon 35mm F2 IS. I really like using my 35mm during party time at the reception, where the 1.4 could really help with isolation and with autofocus on my 5d Mark III.
Hi Julia, i wanna really heard to real difference between tamron 35 1.4 vs canon 35 1.4 ii, color rendition bokeh and sharpness and also each of specific character? Can you answer this by two side money no object and object?

I am so sad! I purchased this lens and I'm having so much trouble focusing, but I am not giving up! lol I just bought the tap in mount for canon to try and calibrate the lens. Fingers crossed that it works! if you have any tips I would greatly appreciate them!
Do you prefer to shoot this on your 5d4 or adapting it to the R?
Wow, the images look amazing! 👏👏 i love your Edit as well, they really bring out the best in both the location and the model. :)
Your photos are top tier...thanks for the review.
Thanks for this video Julia. You'd showed me the lens I am looking for.
Tamron has excellent prices!!! I thing I’m going to get all my lenses from them!
Yes, they are very good lenses, even better than sigma. I have all my lenses from Tamron but if you want to have the best glass from them, be sure you get the G2 or SP versions.
Hi Julia - Love your review. Do you find the weight slightly heavy for weddings / travelling? I am contemplating between Tamron 1.4 and 1.8...
Can you do a review on tamron 35mm 1.4 on the r6 ?
Always been interested in giving Tamron lenses a try
Same here, so far I'm pretty impressed! I have a few more with me at the moment that I'm going to use soon 😄
Hi Julia great video! I have a Canon 200d eos, this tamron lens is it compatible with this kind of camera? I wanna try a much better 35 mm lens f 1.4 to my camera which is a basic camera for greater results.
I've just come to know this lens and now I'm just waiting for tamron to make a mirror less version for sony
did you get miss focus sometimes with this tamron 35 1.4, especially in low light situation ?
I use the Tamron 85/1.8 with image stabilisation professionally. Sold my Canon 85/1.2 it's that good
tamron all the way.....cheers from British Columbia, Canada
You reinforced my decision to purchase the lens last month. Thanks 😊
Tamron rocks
Great review. Currently shoot Tamron 70-200 g2 and 45mm 1.8. This 35mm 1.4 looks like the real deal. BTW, I shoot Nikon d500
Interesting! I had the same Impression.
I shoot Sony A9 and A7rii and I can't wait for a native Sony version of this
lens , no adapter needed. Its a large lens and I think since Tamron is doing
so well making lenses for Sony this year, I hope they surprise us with this lens in E mount. Now I use a manual 40mm f1.2 Voigtlander, but I would
love to have an Autofocus lens for the A9 which is an AF gem.
Have they fixed the issue with the Tamron lenses? I really want to get the Tamron 1.4 for my R6 body. Does it work fine taking pictures and video other than its just not stabilized. Or should I just get the Sigma ?
Thanks Julia for the nice review. Just placed my order 😉
Hi, Julia. I love your video. Have you done a comparison between Tamron 35mm 1.4 and Sigma 35mm 1.4? Which one do you recommend?
Can you tell me how was the chromatic aberration was in this lens.....I remember testing the tamron 35 1.8 vc some time ago in an expo.....and it had terrible chromatic aberration.....and I dont know whether it was a problem with that particular copy....
would love to see the RAW images from the R with this lens.
How good is it compared to the Canon 35mm II and the Sigma 35 Art?? Debating between these three lenses.
1 question . What would u like to have for Nikon Z6 , this tamron or original 35mm 1.8 Z lens ?
Hi Julia, I love your videos, I'm using the canon 50mm 1.2 as my only lens currently for everything, on a crop sensor body, I love natural light photography, people, plants, animals and travel etc, I just want to have one lens and work with it, would you say this was better in that regard? And for semi pro use?
Sigma, the back focus 👑.
On a DSLR I fixed mine back focus with the sigma tool. Then I bought the Sigma with E-Mount for my mirrorless A7III and I there doesn't exist any back or front focus. I tried it with 4 different copies of the lens.
Poo Music Cool. I bought a Tamron 35mm 1.4 and did nothing. Sharper than my friends Canon 35mm 1.4 L II and half the cost.
@@f0t0b0y , that sounds very good. It seems to be a good Lens. Anyway, just wanted to let everybody know, that the Sigma Art 35mm f1.4 was on my Canon 5D after the adjustmend tack sharp, too.
Poo Music I used to own the sigma 35 art and I would have to update it and adjust on my 5D micro adjustment all the time and still missed focus.
I ended up getting the Sony 35 1.8 for now as I just recently purchased an A7iii for Black Friday. love your informative videos! ;)
(I should have specified - 1.8 or 1.4. Not really interested in the 2.8)
Thank you so much for the info! I have a question. How loud or silent is the autofocus during video?
I have Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 for my APS-C Pentax KP, very nice lens!
Great video as always. Just wondering if you did any AF microadjustment on your 5DIV prior to this shoot?
Thank you for this video! This will be my next purchase
I really like using my 35mm during party time at the reception, where the 1.4 could really help with isolation and with autofocus on my 5d Mark III.
i'd get this.
From what I am seeing, with the dslr the eye pupils are soft and the focus is on the brows.
What would you pick for Eos RP? Sigma vs Tamron?
Excellent video and fantastic images by tamaran 35 mm 1.4 lense but expensive
Try the yongnuo 35mm 1.4 if you have canon.
Nah-tried it and couldn’t deal with the distortion. 😝 Go sigma or Tamron 35 1.8 instead
Hi Julia, i wanna really heard to real difference between tamron 35 1.4 vs canon 35 1.4 ii, color rendition bokeh and sharpness and also each of specific character? Can you answer this by two side money no object and object?
If I look for 35mm, I hesitant between Sigma 35 Art and this lens. What your suggest ?? thank you. :]
Sigma if saving money. I have one and it performs well.
Can you please compare Sigma 40mm 1.4 Art. Though it would be very heavy, but still would like to see your thoughts on the IQ.
