@@caolanclarke4585 Thing is - very surprisingly, many people do NOT seem to know this. You can see that in the many comments here and on socials. Every time I happen to see this shared on socials, I see many people asking what it's referring to, what the song is, etc.
Agreed! I spent a summer in Edinburgh several years ago and got hooked on Irn-Bru while there. Drank it every day! Whenever I come across it in the states, I always buy one. Good memories! :)
It used to outsell coca cola, but I think 'energy drinks' (caffeinated sugar water) are outselling everything now. There was an Irn Bru 'Fiery' energy drink but it was limited edition only. I suspect it's advert might not be allowed in the US (and quite a few of the others)
I'm glad it's still on but I'm disappointed this year with the condensed version. Has lost the landmarks we know & love and has cut out the song totally so not as funny. Being Scottish Irn Bru is still my favourite ginger over Coca-Cola.

Nostalgia Critic brought me here. Got to say, the animators for this commercial did a fantastic job recreating the animation of the classic "Snowman" short. It was hilarious that the opening of the soda is what brought that snowman to life, also the fact that he dropped that bratty kid practically 50 ft. from the air to claim the prize. At least the kid's okay, figured the commercial wouldn't go that dark. lol
I actually never saw this commercial before the Nostalgia Critic brought it up. (Maybe it's because I live in the U.S.?) But as someone who loved the original short, this is hilarious, and beautifully done.
I'm British but before this summer, I had never been to Scotland before. Whilst I was there, I made it my mission to try Irn-Bru. *The experience was phenomenal! Back in my young days, in the 2000s, Irn Bru was being imported to Russia. It was unusual, but I paid it no mind. Then it disappeared until the late 2010s. I was older and knew much better. And after knowing mainly generic stuff from the shelves Irn Bru felt refreshing and nice! Oh, how I miss it...

@M G: I am surprised that it isn't shown in England, the animator is English and a good friend of Raymond Briggs whom did the original Snowman and he used the same technique. So plot summary of how I'm here. Saw this ad years ago, wanted to try Irn-Bru. I have a British friend from years ago, who by an incredible coincidence knew my wife before we started dating, and was friends with my neighbor (he was kidnapped in Russia while on assignment, and reassigned to the UK, and befriended her family.) Like I said, really bizarre coincidence. My neighbor sponsored her years ago, and she moved to the US, about 15 miles up the road from me, and got married. Her house got flooded while visiting family for Christmas, and my wife caught it while checking in during work. During their extended stay in the UK, they asked us if we wanted anything. I asked for an Irn-Bru. So now I will try it. And it's actually really good. Kinda like a cream soda/butterscotch/little hint of licorice/orange cream. This would sell pretty good in the US I think. I'm in the Northern US Rockies, so I don't know if altitude is doing anything, but it's nowhere as fizzy as something say like a sprite. It's similar to a cream soda also in that regard, and I consider that a plus because I'm not a fan of overly carbonated soda. A local drink to my region is Ironport (Cuban root beer mixed with Caribbean spices, I'd describe it like 2/3 root beer, 1/6th cream soda, 1/6 Jackson Hole blend licorice soda, various spices), and there is a slight comparison. Overall though, I do recommend it if you like a good soda.
