That means having real money or something to barter with, and enough of it to cover your expenses. Whatever your income is now and from whatever source, what happens if that no longer does the trick? I started following Appalachia Farm several months ago. I absolutely love her frankness and honesty. It is a breath of fresh air. I listen to her and want to be on a farmstead. Where I live, I can't grow anything as it is heavily wooded with a water reservoir (Philadelphia owns the water). Everything is controlled due to that reason alone. Besides veggies, don't grow well on wooded property. I still listen to her to help keep me grounded with all the chaos going on around me.

Most people probably won't want to do this but if I were you I would sell the house and then take any remaining profits and buy one acre of land and then buy either a used single wide or double-wide. Try to buy as much of it as you can outright cash. Even if you have to borrow some money for the well or septic tank then do it. Even better if you're able to take all the profits and pay for everything cash. I have 3 acres with an old trailer and I don't have any type of rent or house payment. Everything I earn go straight towards regular monthly bills. Yes it's an older trailer and people probably look at me like I'm poor but money-wise, I can go out and spend if I want to

I agree. I have been able find quite a few country properties with a old ( livable) farm house and often a shop garage or old barn for less than 150k some times way less. Or land with a tear down but have good well and septic , perfect for a single wide. Already bought some ,fixing one up now,renting another to a good friend and neighbor.
