That to me, gives it more depth, as if you can understand how both of them see the death. One is grateful, as expressed by the lyrics, hoping for a better future, while the person singing, is sad and still can't accept it. Honestly speaking, I believe your song feels as if you viewed it from the perspective of the person who the lyrics is about, which in my opinion is also a completely fair choice to make. It may not resonate with me personally as much as the original song did, but I'm sure as others have pointed out, mightve liked the song better if that makes sense Have a good day!
