I know this is late, but I’m planning on keeping one of these. I live towards north Texas, so I’ll have to make a trip. What months are the queens most active? And how many days after a good rain can I expect to catch them?
I saw one of these ants when I was like 9 years old. I didn't know what species it was... but it was huge, and it ran away(I had already begun keeping ants at that age, so I tried catching it, thank goodness I didn't catch it - I would've gotten stung haha). It had wings, and looked EXACTLY like the winged queen in the video - what a memorable ant that was. Almost mistook it for a wasp until I saw the antennae.
these ants are so nice by far my favorite colony that I have. very interesting to observe. my queen has a skull on its back because of the scars from when she lost her wings makes it look like a skull logo on her back its real nice.
Indeed sir. Keep up the good work. Thank you for all the diy formicarium vids. Yours are the most informative. When I make one like yours I will show you. I am going to use garnet sand !
Mesquite is not an invasive species to South Texas. The Tamaulipan Scrub land is Mesquite's native range. South Texas is part of the Tamapulipan Scrub.
Central Texas is too far north. You will only find them near the Texas-Mexico border in places such as Harlingen and Brownsville where the tropical climate exists
I love your channel. No extra drama junk. Just good knowledge.
Thank you! My channel is meant to be exactly that. Knowledge, discussion, and no drama.
The golden colour is so pretty, & I really love these kinds of larger ants! I hope you can successfully pair them off.
Beautiful ant! We have some golden ants here in Australia too. Neoponera villosa looks awesome under the light. Thank you for sharing with us
It's always nice seeing ants in the winter

That’s the cool thing about Ponerine ants. They are so wasp like in their aggression, social structure, and behavior.
One time my hand started hurting, I thought arthritis; then I got stung by one of these and my hand never hurt again.
The venom is a paralyzing toxin. It may have very well caused a change in your nerves that spurred some repair or growth.

Didn't know Captain America was into ants! haha
Can’t be weightlifting, swinging swords, and brandishing a shield all the time ;)
I really want this species
Do you live in Texas, Mexico, or South America?
Unfortunately I don't. I live up in Idaho
Ah unfortunately you’d have to get some kind of USDA permit to get them up there.

Hi, I am in central TX and have Mesquite trees around me, when is a good time to find these ants.

Are there any Neoponera in California?
No, not that I am aware of.
Hello, do you have any queens for sale ? I’m in central Texas … let me know
I know that these are found in Texas, but are these found in Colorado at all, if anybody knows if they could be found there?
Well not this species in particular, but Pheidole is widespread genus. Use the distribution map on AntWiki for species of Pheidole
@@TheAnttarium Oh, ok, thank you!
Did she lay any eggs?
You will see in a future video!
I need to find more people in Texas into ants
On FB, there is the Texas Ant Keepers group. Also we have a discord.
I'm in TX, I currently have one Crematogaster colony.
