Aragon, you forgot the main tip: DON'T RELY ON CHARGING BULL RINGS IN BOSS FIGHTS. Damn I saw a tank that ran circles around the boss, I swear. Ofc he lost aggro and dps lost combat advantage. They usually dont run in circles but still running in front of the boss to keep the ring buff up, and ruin combat advantage for dps. If I see tank with charging bull ring in boss fight I get the idea it might be bad one.
@@abccba5125 Just dont use it on boss fights. When tanks try to maintain the ring buff vs bosses it makes things worse. You have enough means as a tank to hold the aggro without the ring. The ring is made mostly for mobs to make tanks and partys life easier.

Thanks for the video. These are great tips. I would add one more that I notice a lot of fellow tanks missing out on, which is that it's our job to manage the space. When I pug as dps or healer, I notice a lot of tanks just jumping into the middle of the fray and pulling threat, which is fine. But what would be better is that we move the enemies into positions where the dps can deal with them effectively. For aoe, that means we should try to group the mobs up and tank them on the opposite side from the dps. Especially for boss fights, we need to be aware of what's happening in the rest of the playing field. One common example is that I sometimes see tanks holding a boss in a position where melee dps have no safe space from which to attack the boss. If I'm tanking with people I'm not familiar with, I always tell them "there will always be safe space on the opposite side of the boss from me. Stand there." and it is then my job to always position the boss so that there is. If the dps and healer can rely on us to manage the space and create opportunities for them, it is a lot easier and more efficient than having them run all over the place trying to find their own space. Just my 2 cents. =)
Personally, when I see a tank immediately turn the boss around for CA, that would be my clue that the tank is experienced. I hate it when the tank just attacks the boss with no regard for party positioning, meaning 4 people have to move for CA instead of just 1. Kills the momentum of the encounter for me.
About the last tip, there is something important that needs to be said. Yes, it is important for the Tank to take the lead. But nowadays, some stupid people think that a queue is a race. If the Tank stops to open a single chest, there is always some braindead racer that starts complaining. We take the lead, but we have the right to open chests too ! Or to stop for a few seconds to change some part of the build or the use a selection of buff itens. Queues are to move with strategy, as a team, and not a dispute of who reaches the next checkpoint first. Also, there is a new type of Kamikaze DPSs that are breeding in Neverwinter. They stack the maximum they can of Movement Speed only to arrive at the mob first and die, to highjack the Most Damage Taken of the Tank. Leaderboard is making the people sick. DPSs using tanking companion only to boost their damage (Lion). Healers using tanking companions. And real mess ! Everyone should be less slave of Leaderboards. Maybe then we will have sane people that move with strategy and together, as a real team.
Nah, no time to open those useless chests. Really they have nothing but on a small chance an insignia. Which fine, if you need that's ok, but an endgame Player who is max, with complain. I highly agree with tip#9. When trying out a new class/playstyle, I always do randoms. The worse group that I get partied with, the better! It just tests the limits of your knowledge of your character to be able to finish content and contribute with a group, no matter what composition you are in. Getting in good groups can make a new tank slack off and not be able to deal with the pressure on harder content when your groups always obliterate your targets before you are needed to take the damage for the team. There's no learning opportunity there.
Great vid as always! I’m running a 80k GF, drow. Armor break, mythic aura, spined devil, swarm + vistani and grace. Believe these two last is more complicated as tank but help a lot the team dmg and the time to complete.
I played ESO, but I only played it for about a year. Tanking was so easy in that game, a talking monkey could do it. This game seems like it takes some skill to be an effective tank. That I LOVE, in Age Of Conan, tanking required a LOT of skill, it was funny when I would log on, the tells started going off, hey Bel, come tank this raid for us or come tank this six man for us. I ALWAYS had something to do in that game.
I subbed to your channel, now I need to go see if you have a noob guide to playing Neverwinter. A lot of the stuff you are talking about is Greek to me right now.
@Aragon hey bro, did you go back to aasimar from the drow? I seen in your pally build video you swapped to drow, having a hard time deciding what race to run as a fighter tank. Hope you see this!
So I just started playing tonight, I am a pally tank and I don't know squat about the game yet. I get the shield bar to the left, what is the gold on one the right, stamina? SO when you block, the shield bar goes down and eventually blocking will have no effect? Does it regen over time? Or are their abilities for that? I am asking because my main is ALWAYS a tank in every MMO I play and I pride myself on being an elite tank in every MMO I play. So all the help compressing the learning curve would be appreciated.
Question, why do you have such a high intelligence score? I am level 5 so I have to figure out where to put my points. I totally get con and charisma, but I thought wisdom was a prime stat for Pally's?
Question, how can you tank with no taunts or other aggro building mechanics? How do you keep a mob or bosses attention on you and not on the DPS or healer?
agree with all the points in addition to team support there are more cheaper tank specific choices like the blink dog comp also gives ca to single target (i use it on tiamat mostly) or dedicated square and such for heal mount aura i use golden lion for 5% team heal and 2% team dmg as of now i have played 3033hrs+ on my barb and around 536+ hr on my paladin and fighter and i still struggle with barb tank even at 75kIL im still changing builds and playstyle just to be able to tank as easily as the others and none of my tanks can survive the 2 shot tank buster on tos 1st boss i have failed to clear the 1st boss with 3 grps
Is there a way to make a DPS tank with a Paladin or Fighter tank. I just like to tank and still help with dps. I say this because I’m a returning player from back in 2019 when I used to out dps some other players with my paladin tank
There are several ways that you can help the team doing damage other than just providing buffs to the DPSs. The Rugged helm has Manticore Mane's Bite, that you cause half of your life on the boss as damage after casting a Daily. And that, on an End Game Tank, can be up to 650.000 of free damage in one hit. You can also use mounts and artifacts that do high damage and still have a buff\debuff effect. It's doable ! The person just have to think to make this build happen. 🙂
If I make a deal, like 75/ 70 with Deflect/ Deflect severity, and then going for critical avoidance like 65, could go in general (not mtos endgame) for survive more? Or going total avoidance it's whole better. Speaking of companions, myconid for awareness and avoidance, where drops?..in auction there are like 3 for 15 M...there is the winter wolf for deflect and avoidance? And duergar for 7.5 avoidance, I don't have resources for bulette awareness, only two stats. I was focusing on deflect/aware comps for paladin forte and drow buff, but it seems it not viable , so I'm searching avoidance % sources. Ty
Now that I have spent thousands on blue/epic companion with deflect stats for the paladin and gathering the tokens to upgrade, you just say me go for crit avoidance?? Not good, so I have to re buy all my roster...your builds about deflect/severity 🔥can use the cat or have to buy the Butterfly 😢
Just head for mtos and try it out. From my understanding, this dungeon was the game changer. Nobody could tell before which build would win, because the challenges were different and you wouldn't get hit so hard. When following a build do you actually take into account the time it was created? You should also talk to people playing your class and completing the hardest content at the moment.
@@pudelinocacalat2951 yea mtos changes DPS builds too. Not so much stat prioritization but the way we go about it. There will always be changes to adapt to
You don't have to rebuy stuff, not normally. If you want to play the most challenging content at release then maybe, that's always the case. But regardless of what defense stats you have tbh you should manage mtos, might be a bit harder than others. I went into mtos a lot with my terrible tank build, missing all mythic insignias, and still a bunch of Hp comps, and I managed. But I recently invested in more crit avoid, and yeah, it seems a bit easier to survive.
That's the problem of following builds. Specially of people that one day say one thing and in the other say another thing. One day, augment companion is the best. Next day, striker is the best. Just one of many examples. Do your own build. This way you will never pass through this again. 👍
@@-acoustickings-3125 yeah never follow a build exactly. But it's good to see and understand what others are doing. If you only do it yourself you will end up like a few ppl I've met who have been playing years, never look up builds or into their class. One of 2 things happens with a small chance of a 3rd. Either they are not great builds and can't run top dungeons like mtos: they spend more testing and changing than you would following a build then changing to follow another. Or the rare 3rd, they get lucky and spend only what they need and get everything right the 1st time. The 3rd isn't as rare if the person talks to and compares with friends and guildies. But unless you are on PC you can't really know if your feats and gear or anything else work properly.
So, if I am a Tactical Master in the use of of Shield Block and Potion of Healing, what % do I need at rest as a Fighter Vanguard for: Defence Awareness Critical Avoidance Stamina Deflection Deflect Severity What is the minimum I can get away with, assuming I can proc defences buffs in combat? And which can I proc? Cheers! {:o:O:}
Go with 90% defense, 75% awareness and 75% crit avoid, and you'll be grand. Ideally not with anything relying on a proc in combat. You can probably go with lower, but you need a better healer
@@Aragon- Cheers, My stats will com down to Companions, food buffs and Insignia, so I don't want to end up with 90% Defence and Crit Avoidance, and 40% Awareness, or some other dumb combination. {:o:O:}
Stat prioritization single target - defense > awareness > Crit avoid Aoe/mobs/between bosses - defense > deflect > deflect severity It's not hard to agro around a group of mobs, pile them up and give combat advantage to your group while not giving it to the mobs...awareness is useless unless you allow mobs to have combat advantage.
As a tank what's the best way to negate the damage? I see some tanks get hit for a million but take like 30k. Also is there a way so that my shield takes more damage before it's gone?
The shield is based on stamina, so anything that increases your stamina will increase the amount of damage your shield can take. Anniversary Ham is the event food buff I will use for challenging content.
Idk. This used to be true, tanks didn't even use defense stats at all lol, no one did. But it's changed a lot since then. Barb tanks are set to build more like dps than others.
How you take deflect severity up? There is only 1 companion for %, no mount stat, elixir %, drow race %, paladin forte some %, the overload %. You are about 75% with stats capped from augment/enchantment, you equip the dragon alacrity set ?

I have to heal them, so I ask if they could change gear before to not be blamed after. Tank, starting to build one cause it's op
gotta have a straight up dps loadout for solo that what i do with my pally. they have a few one click and your top of threat list attacks and the wings work well to gather the mobs
Just two weeks ago started tanking - after 3 years Warlock DPS. Thank you its a great video.
I subbed to your channel, now I need to go see if you have a noob guide to playing Neverwinter. A lot of the stuff you are talking about is Greek to me right now.
I don't think I can run with the Scorpion companion, I am scared of Arachnids lol.
@Aragon hey bro, did you go back to aasimar from the drow? I seen in your pally build video you swapped to drow, having a hard time deciding what race to run as a fighter tank. Hope you see this!
Probably whichever looks best to you since drow cant proc that most of the time but both are good
So I just started playing tonight, I am a pally tank and I don't know squat about the game yet. So all the help compressing the learning curve would be appreciated.
gold bar is divinity. used to cast some abilities
Question, why do you have such a high intelligence score? I am level 5 so I have to figure out where to put my points. I totally get con and charisma, but I thought wisdom was a prime stat for Pally's?
if you want to go Tank, use Con and Charisma/Strength
Ty this very helpful with my new tank ☺Have super day Aragon 😊
Question, how can you tank with no taunts or other aggro building mechanics? How do you keep a mob or bosses attention on you and not on the DPS or healer?
damage = threat
choose OP tank, then don't need to do anything or timing....because need to spam at will, then daily in every 20 sec.... bruh..what a balanced class.
Play it yourself if so easy 😂
What about a balance of attack and defense as a Paladin?
Is the shield pre mitigation or post? I can't find the answer anywhere.
After. It is just an extra layer of hit points
agree with all the points in addition to team support there are more cheaper tank specific choices
like the blink dog comp also gives ca to single target (i use it on tiamat mostly) or dedicated square and such for heal
mount aura i use golden lion for 5% team heal and 2% team dmg
as of now i have played 3033hrs+ on my barb and around 536+ hr on my paladin and fighter and i still struggle with barb tank even at 75kIL im still changing builds and playstyle just to be able to tank as easily as the others
and none of my tanks can survive the 2 shot tank buster on tos 1st boss i have failed to clear the 1st boss with 3 grps
the uptime on the ca benefit from the blink dog is only 33% of the time
@@Aragon- ah so thats why blink dog is 5k while black death is 3mil
Is there a way to make a DPS tank with a Paladin or Fighter tank. I just like to tank and still help with dps. I say this because I’m a returning player from back in 2019 when I used to out dps some other players with my paladin tank
Yes. You can make this hibrid of Tank and DPS. A tanking damage bonus. It's doable. 🙂
for AoE fights it's possible on Paladin, not for Master content tho, you'd get wrecked
@@Aragon- so for the Master Content there no way you can tank and still help DPS that’s what you saying 😢
@@luckd90skid26 you can help by providing buffs to increase their damage output. grouping up enemies and positioning.
Have you got little spies in my alliance Aragon?
Lol I was just talking about this with my guildies lol
I have a question, can I who play on the play station play with a friend who plays on the computer?
It’s a lot harder to swap powers on console. Wish it was easier lol
Is Stalwart Golden Lion a good pet for tanks and heals?
Do you think 5x companions of the hall are viable for a fighter tank? Or maybe 4, if raptor is necessary.
4 with raptor, viable, yes
So, if I am a Tactical Master in the use of of Shield Block and Potion of Healing, what % do I need at rest as a Fighter Vanguard for:
Defence
Awareness
Critical Avoidance
Stamina
Deflection
Deflect Severity
What is the minimum I can get away with, assuming I can proc defences buffs in combat?
And which can I proc?
Cheers!
{:o:O:}
Go with 90% defense, 75% awareness and 75% crit avoid, and you'll be grand. Ideally not with anything relying on a proc in combat.
You can probably go with lower, but you need a better healer
@@Aragon-
Cheers,
My stats will com down to Companions, food buffs and Insignia, so I don't want to end up with 90% Defence and Crit Avoidance, and 40% Awareness, or some other dumb combination.
{:o:O:}
@@Aragon- This is a nice summary of what stats to shoot for.
Is Mythallar set still good for tank?
for threat on Paladin and Barbarian, yes
👉
Wich is better drizzt or the lion?
Drizzt will increase party damage by more than the lion. The lion is good for damage reduction when you stand right next to it
Stat prioritization
single target - defense > awareness > Crit avoid
Aoe/mobs/between bosses - defense > deflect > deflect severity
It's not hard to agro around a group of mobs, pile them up and give combat advantage to your group while not giving it to the mobs...awareness is useless unless you allow mobs to have combat advantage.
I appreciate the summary here, although not sure I have the time or budget to make a grinding DPS build AND two tanking builds.
Remedial tanking 101 is in session!
Thank you teacher, have an apple! 🍎
@@garylkoh does anniversary ham stack with caprese?
tanks play more like dps than anything in this MMO, so people out there worried about tanking this MMO is prolly the easier of the bunch.
Idk. This used to be true, tanks didn't even use defense stats at all lol, no one did. But it's changed a lot since then. Barb tanks are set to build more like dps than others.
You press a few buttons in a fixed order when they are off cd in other games, here it is more challenging and reactive imo.
i call myself a camper player
*camping, having minnimum il and have maximum job done
dps, heal or tank
Excellent thanks bro
Thx 😃👍🏻👍🏻
Dam, and i was so close to 90% deflect & deflect severity on my tank alt, rip. :D
Stick with it. In a lot of content that will fo fine, even in MToS tbh, especially if your 80k+
@@Aragon- that keybind for attack+shield for ap gain is so good though ty, you just rotate between daily and shield/block for massive defence all day.
Yep, it is really great
How you take deflect severity up? There is only 1 companion for %, no mount stat, elixir %, drow race %, paladin forte some %, the overload %. You are about 75% with stats capped from augment/enchantment, you equip the dragon alacrity set ?
