Hi I'm Tati Westbrook, thank you for watching, please be sure to check out my collection of makeup review videos where you'll find my best beauty tips, tricks and favorites on everything from top luxury cosmetics to my favorite drugstore makeup. Whether you're looking for a new product review, tutorial, beauty tip, haul or perhaps even a giveaway, I hope you enjoy watching. - Хобби
My wish is to have cosmetic companies make smaller eye products, mini mascara, mini pencils etc. Less product with a smaller price tag , so you actually have a chance to use up the product before it expires.
A couple of years ago, I decided to only purchase travel Size Toiletries & Mini Beauty Products. Never went back to buy normal sizes !
Yep. Agreed! I don’t wear stuff often enough and/or I swap between pallets depending on what my mood is/colours I want. I would WAY rather have minis of things for less wastage. Also, more options when things are less expensive ❤
I was thinking the same thing when i was looking at some of the xmas sets yesterday! e.g they had a pack of 3 smaller sized caviar eye sticks from Laura Mercier and I said why don’t they just make them that size all the time. I’ll never use the full size ones i have!!
Yes!!!
I just bought a mini mascara because I had to throw out so many eye products because my kids brought home pink eye to us a few times. No big eye shadow palettes either. Done. I wasted so much money with full size before.
Years ago I was soooo into the beauty community. I had about 3 drawers full of “recommended “ makeup. One day, I got the worst eye infection- pulsating headaches from the infection and I had to wear sunglasses even indoors because any light caused horrible pain. I wiped out my drawers- even lipsticks. Now I have a nicely organized makeup holder on top of my desk. It’s so relieving, I know what I have and use it. I am not wasting money and I am not creating waste. Since that horrible health scare I change up my mascara and eyeliner every three months. I only purchase my lovely telescopic L’Oréal Mascara (the best for my lashes) and if I want to try a fancy mascara, I buy minis. I now splurge in skincare :) (still keeping it minimal :)
I can’t be the only one who went “AWWW” the moment Tati held up those Marc Jacob’s palettes! They are sentimental even for your viewers Tati!!
I’ve seen some people use expired makeup to make art and it seems so therapeutic. I want to get into that so I don’t have to feel guilty for being wasteful. Since you’re artistic, could you please do a video trying this?
Yeah, I see some videos using watercolor binder to turn makeup to watercolor.
LOVE this idea!!!
I love this idea!
Great idea 💡
Oooh that’s a great idea!!!!
As a clinical laboratory scientist, we write the opened and expiration date on EVERYTHING and it flows into my home life. So I completely agree with doing that for your makeup.. and also baking soda and baking powder. Lol
Tati, I hear you. I stopped wearing makeup and stopped using most fancy skincare last summer following an episode with an itchy rash on my throat, and for the last several years I've only been buying clothes and shoes that I absolutely need, and then only at deep discounts and/or at thrift stores. There's a change in the wind, I think, affecting all of us.
The thrift store thing I’m totally with you. We all need to be more aware of how much trash fast fashion makes. Buy good quality basics and we can fancy them up with thrift store stuff.
This is the lifestyle I'm trying to have. There is so much stuff I'm going to donate and get rid of and I think it'll help me be in a better mental state. I'm also making myself save money and I'm starting a no-buy with makeup. There's too much expired makeup in my drawers (that sounded sus). Not my pants, my dresser drawers...
Yes, Sandra that is wonderful. I keep it simple too. Still fun to watch videos though. I find expensive clothes at thrift stores. Just got a flannel retail $60 and I got it for $4.25! Looks new.
@@tmiller1113 I once got a $200 suede jacket for $20.00, and I'll have it forever. It is a treasure.
@@alix5704 Wow!!!!
I love this message of using what we already have. Especially when new makeup is launching every week. Thank you, Tati!
Yes!
Cosmetic industry is gaint 😊in a very terrifying manner
I have been SO much happier lately using a lot of the same products. I chose to hop off the endless wheel of consumerism. There's new stuff launching every day and who has time, energy, $$$ to keep up with all of the launches??? It's much more satisfying to use up a product than to get a new one now! ✨💄✨
I've started purchasing the Sephora favorites mascara kits because they are travel size and really only last 3 months anyway and I feel less guilty throwing them out at that time. Just an idea 💁🏻♀️
I've started buying travel size mascara now too because I just don't wear it enough to warrant full size! Plus it makes it easier to put in my makeup bag if I do go out
Same! I wear mascara most days, and only ever buy full size if it's an amazing sale. Little guys always going strong at three months!
I feel like the travel size “work” better. Not sure what that’s about. But I’ve bought a full sized based off the trial or travel size and it’s not the same. 😐
This is actually a great idea! Didn’t think of it but I’m definitely going to start doing this or stick to my lash princess which is cheaper and doesn’t make me feel horrible if I need to throw it out after a few months!
I’ve also found that the mini sizes are easier for me to apply…I don’t get mascara all over the place! 😂 so combined with they only last 3 months…it’s minis for me all the time.😊
After being diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years ago, I totally understand the whole idea of simplifying your material goods. It feels like a weight has been lifted of my shoulders. It seems like the more I have materially the more stressed I feel.
I know exactly what you mean. As soon as I downsized in everything, I actually started healing. Hope you are doing well ❤
Sending you lots of love, Lori.
@@brennatarpley6010 Thank you so much 💕
I hope you're doing well now. 💗
@@nickrachjames Thanks so much. Doing really good. Side effects of meds cause some issues, but all is okay 💕
I like the idea of a series where you just show different ways of using what you already have and encouraging people to not be so wasteful by buying everything that's new then quickly sending it to landfill
Do you watch Hannah Louise Poston? She has a really curated collection and talks a lot about being mindful of what you buy and appreciating what you already have.
Crazy, I just did this for a similar reason only it was the people in my life and not make up. I feel so much better.
Also, love you Tati!
LOL. That's hilarious!
I did the same thing with a few people in my life too. I really do feel so much better now. I didn’t even know I needed it.
Yes to simplification, minimalism, and downsizing! I’ve been on a bit of a journey the last few years to become a more conscious consumer and to try to really hone in on a more minimal outlook when it comes to products. Would love to see more people like you take their platforms in that kind of direction 😘
I love having James be the peanut gallery! The interaction between the two of you is so fun. "That's just one source." "Can we find another source?" 🤣
I came here to comment about the same moment 😂
I died when she asked for another source 😂
I feel the same way; love the interaction between the 2 of them!!
LOL- her oh so hopeful look when he said that I laughed out loud literally.
They friends again? Confusing
Tati I absolutely cannot get rid of your eyeshadow palette… it’s just too good!
Never, that is a treasure
I know! I love mine too!
Obviously
hands down.
💯💯💯💯 FACTS!!!!
When Tati says: "We are all in danger....oh my gosh"----I can totally relate because I absolutely love makeup too and my enormous makeup collection rivals my shoe collection.
I am guilty of the same thing 💗
Tati, I'm loving this new you! As we get older certain things become less important and others become more! I've just recently switched rooms in my house and got rid of so much of everything.... it feels good. Proud of you!
I’ve started keeping a journal with all my beauty products. I write down the products open date and then the expiration period. It’s been eye opening on how long I’ve kept stuff that is way passed expired 😬
I just started journaling and this is a wonderful idea for a page!
That's an awesome idea. I think we've all been guilty of keeping stuff way past expiration. 🙈
If you want to throw out completely fine make up and waste more money, it's a brilliant idea.
A lot of time you have
@@thebaobabs206 as much free time as you writing this post.
A tip: every product has a can on it that shows the amour of shelf life the product has after you have opened it. A lot of lip liners are ok for 30 months (if you sharpen it it should be ok).
Amount*
Yeah I was wondering why she was tossing out all of her sharpenable eye and lip liners! As long as you're sharpening it between uses it is fine!
I initially read "ok for 30 minutes" and thought omg the AUDACITY of some brands xD
I decided I want to be a minimalist so I'm slowly purging what I don't want or need in my home. The more stuff you have to worry about the more stress. Love watching organizational videos.
If you’re a reader, I recommend The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning. People in Sweden start to purge their homes of excess and unnecessary things at a certain age. The idea is that when you die all of your stuff is left for your family to deal with, so you should ease that burden.
Clean your brushes too ! Also sanitizing your makeup like a makeup artist . Using disposable spoolies and or applicators is a good idea. I especially like seeing mascara tubes packaged with a regular cap and a cap w/spoolie separately. There are options for keeping makeup application as clean as possible! Love your content !
You just inspired me to declutter! I can't even remember the last time I threw something out just because it was expired. We all need to take a minute and do this!!!
100 % Agree!!
I just pulled my oven away from the wall to clean down the sides and it made me ridiculously happy lol
I’m so impressed with how much you accomplished in one video. I am inspired to hit my makeup with a critical and health minded eye. Thank you!!
can’t wait to see more declutters! you should do more shop my stash type videos. i love the focus of using what you already have! and i know a lot of people would agree who are in a no buy/ low buy just being more mindful about what we are spending our money on! you’re the best ❤
I've been doing the sticker system for yeeeeears--it's been so helpful! I've found you can stretch the usable period a bit as most people do, but it helps me see how much I need to use in a given time period, and stops me from over-buying.
Great tip! Thanks!!
I do this too. It does remind me to use my favorite products, instead of hoarding them for special use only. It really puts my good makeup on a use it or lose it timeline.
What’s the sticker system? Never heard of it?
@@spongebebe15 I'm just referring to what Tati describes at the beginning of the video--putting stickers with the date you open a product on it, and a date of expiry if you need it! I usually just go by the standard timelines and smells or what the actual products says and ballpark around that.
Tati, take a cool picture of the make up packaging that you love and have memories with. Print them, frame them and use them as art in your studio. Less clutter, happy to look at. Switch them out.
Intention is everything ❤ I'm so happy for you for holding this mindset🌸
Yes more tutorials!! This was really good I felt myself cheering you on with declutter!!🤣😂. Thanks ❤😊🇨🇦
You’re so genuine❤ you’re energy and love just shine through
This is right up my alley! Over the last year I've scaled back on my makeup buying. I'm now only re purchasing thing I use daily like mascara. I've been getting some use out of my most loved palettes and really been enjoying not trying to keep up with all the latest. 💚
I love Tati and watching her fun quirks, and seeing the hair track I love it!
This was a thought provoking video. You are absolutely correct about stuff causing stress. I’m going to work on decluttering and simplifying my life. Thank you for echoing what I’ve been feeling for awhile!
Love this video. Yes 1000x for tutorials on the makeup we LOVE and already have.
Generally you get a Stye ( chalazion ) from a blocked gland at the base of your eyelashes. Just make sure your eye makeup is thoroughly removed every night and your lashes are very clean! I worked in Ophthalmology for 27 years. Thanks for always doing such fun videos.
Tight lining and using liner in the waterline can do the same. Makes me queasy when I see this being done.
I got one two years ago and since then, very prone to them, q6 months or so. No liner ever again, fresh mascara rarely, Warm compresses 3x week, and Rx drops. This is all true what you said and also true that you become a little fearful of getting another so become very careful
Yep keep those eyelashes clean girls and guys, you can also use baby shampoo and a q tip to scrub the base of your lashes. It keeps everything really clean they are what’s doctors call lid scrubs or you can buy them already made
I honestly thank you for being so honest and upfront about this. I think it’s a wake up call that I needed to hear as well. Thank you
I have been going through old makeup, and I am SO with you. I’d love to have some more tutorials and get-ready videos for sure ❤
I love seeing your change in life. Makes me feel less crazy about my changes. ❤️❤️❤️
This video is making me re-think about all I have on my vanity!!! I love it and it’s hard to let them go, but it’s time.
Good for you Tati!! Decluttering is hard for me too, but I've had styes before and learned the hard way that it's better to let go sometimes. Love your honesty and sharing your experiences with us ❤️
I love this! It’s so incredible that you are into minimalism especially as a RUclipsr. I realised watching RUclips and influencers made me buy way too many things that I actually don’t need. It’s calming for the wallet but also destressing and stopping from rushing over to the next and next and next Material thing that is actually only used maybe twice because we have so much already.
Thanks for this Tati. I had a bad bout of Blepharitis (inflamed eyelashes and eyelid) years ago. I stopped wearing makeup on my eyes for years. Doc told me that I needed to be better at removing it. I’ve only started wearing mascara and liner again since 2019 - but have become SUPER picky about what I will put on my eyes and am meticulous about removing eye makeup. This is just a reminder about how important it is. Will try the dating the makeup trick because I know I have had a bunch of stuff for way way way too long.
You did such a great job letting go of your favorites as well as the products that really needed to go! Keep your eyes healthy and safe( this coming from someone who keeps far too many things in my life, dragging me down!! If anyone has a way they're found to be more organized and do a little bit of decluttering each day/week I'm open to learning!)
This video has really helped me Tati and I thank you and James so much. My niece was in the hospital for using old makeup but I just started my collection in the last year so I wasn't really concerned about it. Thanks to you two I am going to use stickers and be very careful. May God bless you both always and we love you too.❤❣👋
I have seen your journey Tati, and I am so proud of you. You're a complete inspiration and I fully believe that you are exactly where you are meant to be. Thank you.
This video was definitely the PSA we all needed! Glad to see you back and healthy Tati ❤
Tati the studio is looking amazing!! Love your style! ❤
Thanks Tati this helped me get rid of stuff! It’s hard to get rid of makeup sometimes. The struggle is real lol
I bought your pallet in Oct last year , just before you announced the closer. I love it so much and I will never give it up! At 50+ years old, it was the first eye shadow pallet I ever bought! (except for maybe the odd drug store brand four pans, I can count on one hand) It is always a party when Low Pony James is there or James Bun makes an appearance! You two together is comic relief ! Love you
When I saw the start of the video, I was both sad but also feeling kind of inspired because it's not talked about enough when you buy a lot of makeup and even if it's makeup you love, whether it's for the packaging, the formula, the colours, it's always hard to let it go even when you know you should 💛💛💛💛
I hope you're doing well Tati, have an amazing day 💕
Throwing away tools and brushes seems so incredibly wasteful though-- those still had life in them
@@krose1551 💯 👍👍👍
I love the idea of the sticker system. I also write down products I have gotten rid of or donated in a folder of receipts of makeup I have bought. It makes me feel accountable for the money I spend and what I love and don't love in my collection. I am sorry you have to start over but you will probably feel refreshed and better!
Hi Tati! Thank for you sharing your story! I’m glad your eye is better!🙏. I would love to see a video where you use the same few palettes, mascaras, eyeliners & mascaras for an entire month & then let us know which ones you liked the best at the end of the month. So often I buy new makeup and like it at first but later not so much. Also would love to see a more seasonal approach to your color choices. Thank you for making videos!💕 ❤
So happy to have you back. You always make my day brighter. ❤
I get it! It is so painful to throw away make up that is barely even touched. But this is definitely a great reminder for all of us!
Glad you are feeling better Tati!
This is just the motivation I needed to clean out all my extra makeup I've had for literally years! I think one reason I hang onto stuff is because I "spent good money" on it. But hanging onto all that stuff is just a reminder of wasted money. It will be such a relief to have it out of sight and out of mind. Love the new Tati, and thanks for sharing your journey with us 🥰
always such a joy to see your inspirational content. studio looks absolutely incredible ❤❤❤
Agree! ❤
Tati this is such good timing for me. I have been going through all my things and makeup and getting rid of everything that is expired and that doesn't serve me anymore. a minimalist mental health journey. less is more, especially what is expired!! no brainer to throw it out
I keep telling myself I need to pitch some of my things too, every time I put on my Pixi by Petra mascara, my eyes are almost immediately irritated because I've had it for SO long (but the mini brush inside the brush to do my lower lashes!). This is such a good reminder of a video ♥ I've gotta do a full clean out of my makeup vanity
My heart sunk when you started talking about your eye. I'm glad you are ok now but I'm also really glad you talked about this in your video. I can only speak for myself but I'm sure I'm not alone in always thinking "it won't happen to me" or that wearing expired makeup isn't a big deal. Clearly it can happen to anyone of us. And it is a big deal. So thank you. Wishing you and 'James Bun' and the Crows well!!
I feel this video to my soul! I’m proud of you Tati!
Glad to see you again. Continued blessings to you.
Good to have you back we have missed you Tati.. Love xx
I’ve been simplifying like crazy this year as well. So exited!
So glad to see you back!! Always enjoy your videos!!😊
Well this was definitely a wake-up call for me to declutter some things. Thank you!!
Loving the content you’ve been putting out. It always looks puts a smile on my face
James being there to motivate you and looking up resources is so wholesome 🥺🥺❤️❤️ I was thinking if there are some things you can't let go keep the for display or just put them away in a box just to keep them. Love the video regardless and I should definitely go through some of my small makeup I have 👀👀👀 Good to see etnay your eye is doing well ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Tati for speaking on this!! Eye safety is #1. I would love to hear about your favorite refillable eye shadow singles.
I threw out all my old makeup. It was so hard to let some of it go, but I am so happy I did it. The best part is that I have not purchased anything new. It made me take a look at everything else and I down sized every aspect of my life. It feels fantastic!
Love me a Tati notification 🎉❤ good to see you beautiful
Omg I loved this! Low-key felt like a podcast/I was sitting in the room with you just chatting about makeup!
Good for you Tati! I think you’ll feel a lot better after this. I love Declutters! I’d love to have more tutorials, more videos using makeup you already have. The new new videos get old for me because sometimes I feel like I’m just watching an advertisement or I’m being encouraged to consume more and buy more. I also love story times, I love hearing from you, you just have such a fresh perspective and seem so centered!
They happen regardless. My mom never wears makeup, and she gets them. It's when the oil glands get clogged up. Because the skin of the eye is so thin it's more painful than a normal pimple.
Or vitamin B deficiency.
Exactly. Men get sties a lot, and they (most men) don’t wear makeup. It is not the same as an eye infection from expired makeup products. A sty is basically a pimple on the eye, not caused from makeup
Correct.
I concur)I actually seen them more on ppl that don’t wear makeup, to be completely honest
Just had a sty and my eye swole up. The swelling lasted for a day. Haven’t used anything old on it. I think they just happen sometimes.
The one thing I am on top of throwing away as recommended is mascara. One of my high school friends kept a mascara for 2 yrs. It was in a glass bottle and you could see mold growing. She ended up with an eye infection.
Oh wow! That’s good to know that it is truly safer to trash a few months old mascara.
YES!! more get ready w/me's & tutorials with best of the best products. Here for it
I hear ya. Yes to a q&a. Yes to thoroughly using what’s on hand. Less stuff is less stress!❤️
Minimalist for life! But I’m able to do so because I select products after you review them. And I so so so appreciate your reviews and what you bring to us! 💛
Love watching her do things she loves ❤
so Glad you're Back! Love you so so so so much! I've been having similar issue for years and I'm sure it is stress which it took me years to realize! Even though I saw eye doctors and skin doctors anywho.... XOXO
To keep twist up liners clean I break a tiny tip since I can't sharpen it : )
Honestly Tati I absolutely LOVE videos where influencers are 'shopping there own stash' or full face of makeup you already own videos etc. I am always so interested in what you already have and love. And more ways tk use them. Like for instance those Bruno liquid eye shadows. I would have LOVED to see you use some of those more. It doesn't always have to be new. We love you in any way we can get you! 💙
So great to see you back and healthy. Thank you for such a positive message, Tati! 🥰
Omg, Tati I’m going through that exact thing right now. Two days ago awoke that way. The swelling has gone down a lot but it’s not all the way gone. I’m glad to see you have recovered; I’m right behind you! ;)
There's a virus causing it going around
Hi Tati,
I love your content!
Thank you for always being honest with us, and also for remind9ng us to go through our make-up and cull ( I needed that reminder!).
I would love to see more tutorials! I love the fact that you do these free and don't ask for a "patreon fee" to watch them like other M.U.A's.
Love the whole tutorial idea and using what we have! You are so beautiful! Thank you for all your hard work!
I appreciate that you are not just telling people to buy more makeup every time something expires - but to overall buy less so we get to actually use the products. Really impressed by your ethics considering companies pay you to sell stuff
Have you ever considered sanitizing your makeup with 90% proof rubbing alcohol? Just occasionally randomly Spritz here Spritz there... dries insanely fast, disinfects and does not alter any formulas.
I love you Tati!!
I'm SUPER surprised I've never had issues from expired makeup.... You really have me thinking, sooooo much has to go ASAP! Thanks for the kick in the pants to do it! Glad you are doing better! 🥰😘
Your shirt looks amazing on you brings out the beautiful skin and eyes ! Love your content as usual
I had a stye a few months ago that was caused by magnetic lash glue. It took more than a month to go away. It was terrible so I can definitely relate! Glad you're back!!
I was also wondering if it could be lash glue. 🤔
@@dianaburton7042 I am 100% certain that's what caused mine. It popped up the following morning, but the lashes and glue were new.
I had a stye last week. I think mine was from eyeliner but I've second guessed it several times. Maybe my eyelash curler?! I've been cleaning the eye lash curler each time with alcohol on a cotton round.
I do the same too! I wipe my eyelash curler with 70% alcohol everyday before mascara application. Eye infections are no fun.
Welcome back to our Tati I had a sty in my eye it sucks so I’ve had to clean out my make up I know we never learn that’s nice to see your back sending all my love to you and James ❤️❤️
Wow I need to de clutter after watching this. I enjoy the banter interaction you and James share, can see togetherness, team work. God BLESS 🙏🏻 x
I need this shirt in my life!!! Glad you’re feeling better ❤️
I have kept a fine point sharpie on my makeup table specifically to date my mascara for years, it really helps to have it RIGHT THERE.
I stopped working in make up a year ago and I have an huge collection of used once or twice make up. Last week I threw away about $500 in lipstick. I still have so much to go through, but now I’m inspired to do it, thank you. Also never never never go to bed with eye make up on!
I am inspired to throw things away! thank you Tati!
I loved this video. you can be so proud of yourself ❤✨
Good tip for knowing how long a product can be used safely: there's a little logo (looks like an open jar) on every beautyproduct with the advised use-by time, usually in months. That way you don't have to go off general advise on websites.
Yeah but I don’t remember when I bought / opened things!!
As someone with sensitive eyes, putting anything in the water line is a no no.
Oh wow!! I bought the Honest Beauty palette a couple of weeks ago and I LOVE it!! It is so great!!
Yes! Yes! Makeup tutorials, GRWN chatty videos. Love when you do those. 💜
Eye issues from expired products is zero fun! Thanks for the colored mascara recommendation for those of us with blue/green eyes, your shirt is also making your eyes stand out. It looks like a rails brand flannel from Nordstrom and is gorgeous and perfect for a fall casual day. Would you mind sharing who the shirt is by.
