I use the Razor 1 almost 5 days a week for work. Primarily for boxes and heavy plastic bags. And after a year the only reason I replaced it was because it was left at a customers shop. By far the most durable knife I’ve ever had. Not to mention the one handed flip action to open and locks are both safe and very convenient. The all metal outside is also great because I would have broken a plastic model several times over after dropping it from ladders and on concrete floors
I Have carried the fast back II for about 2 years now and absolutely love it. I carried the fastback V1 for a while before that. It was the only Milwaukee tool I owned for several years and I probably wouldn't have gotten any more tools from them if it wasn't among my favorite tools.
6:53 I've had my original Fastback for year, I've always used my thumb next to the blade to control the depth of cut when opening boxes. It gives you the control you need.
Ive actually 'wanted to make a video on this very subject because I've used all of them for work. I like that you actually demonstrated the tool. good job
The fatback hawksbill and drop point are not designed to be opened with your fingers. You simply press the button and swing the blade open by flipping your wrist.
One-handed flicking option is possible without waiting for it to break in (assuming it does) by using lubricant you can lube the crap out of it and there you go. I do the same for the Husky folders which have too much resistance for flick-open but with lubrication you can one-hand open it with your left-hand which is important to mention because it's designed primarily for right-handed opening.
Great review as always.I bought the original fastback razor in a package with a bottle opener at Home Depot a year or so ago for fifteen bucks. At Christmas time they had the original fastback razor knife and the liner lock knife in a pack for twenty bucks so I pick them up as well. Pretty good deal I thought.
My fast back blades pull out of the mount when drawing the knife toward you. The locking mechanism does not properly engage the slots in the blades. This happens with both Milwaukee and Stanley blades.
I hold Milwaukee electric and hand tools in high regard. I buy them and use them every day but I am not impressed with any of their knives including their new 'Hardline' knives. All of them are a decent value because of their low price but none of them will come close to the edge retention you'll get from a knife made with a great blade steel like 150CM, S30V, AUS8 or NC690Co.
I have the fastback regular blade and I f,n love it it's smooth as hell very sturdy liner lock and it's sharp as all hell.im thinking the blade steel is 8cr13mov or 440a but it strops very nice . overall awesome knife for 16.00
I prefer the "button open, button close" utility knives. Very quick and easy singlehanded use. I use a Kobalt utility knife with 3 blade storage. It does the job well and (I'm assuming) cheaper than the Milwaukee. I have a few and the oldest is 2ish years and is still rigid and works great
well, if your thumb hits the lock/unlock button on _any_ of them they could open. anyway, that lock feature means they should be convertible to automatic with a spring kit.
Thanks, i just canceled my order for the utility knife with xtra blade. Like you I keep a hundred pack on the truck and don't change the blade with great frequency, so I'd rather have the thinner version in my pocket. I got a 2 pack of the std. Fastback's on eBay for the same price as fastback 2 on amazon
I'm surprised you didn't mention the ergonomic/safety finger-hole/half-circle grip. Also, the string/line cutter intergrated into the pommel/butt. Why not? I think your videos are really good, just surprised!
I rarely....if ever use a string/line cutter, so it isnt important to me. Most likely that was in the various scenes that were recorded, but was edited out if you didnt see it due to overlaps.
I love the fastback II a lot!! My beef with it is the belt clip. I honestly hate the belt clip. I got so made with t one day, to the point where I broke it off. I love how they replace cheap designs with terms like "Anti pocket tearing clip"
I keep about a 1’ square piece of plywood to act as a cutting board for my bench. So when I open packages I have a crappy surface to cut on that won’t ruin the knife blade.
Klein makes a Hawkbill blade knife WITH a replaceable Hawkbill blade. I’m not gonna be one of “those” guys and spam your channel with a link to my own review but would love to see your thoughts on the, Klein Cable Skinning Utility Knife.
Where can I get parts for these knives???? Handle screws broke right off in the back spacer standoffs....can not reassemble...Need standoffs & screws!!!
These knifes are made to be opened by pressing the button and flinging your wrist to swing the blade out of the handle. Warning, in some states the 4 that are not spring assisted are considered "gravity knives" which are illegal in some states. Just a heads up, but good review.
+CrazyIrishMedic That is how I normally open them up, but the inexperienced person could easily cut themselves (or others), so I did not show that as being a way to do it. I have not heard of NON spring open knives as being illegal, but it doesnt surprise me....some of the laws are really odd. Thanks!
+Real Tool Reviews Yeah the laws are strange but basically any knife that uses a button to release the blade so that it will either fall out by gravity or with a flick of the wrist is considered a gravity knife. Its stupid but can get you in a whole mess of trouble if you don't know your local laws.
George Moore I do also.....for carrying around outside of the shop. I dont know why they didnt include that small post on the blade of the cheaper two knives to allow for easier opening.....it is not easy to do with one hand on them.
I completely disagree! Full disclosure: the only Fastback I've used is the Fastback II razor knife. First, the knife doesn't accept certain blades. They fit fine in the knife... until you try to close it. I figured razor blades would be a standard length, but I've had real trouble with Husky and Lennox blades extending past the slot in the housing. Secondly, the knife is held together with screws. Great idea in theory, but not in application. They've marketed this knife to the kinds of people who carry a knife all day, every day, but it seems like these knives won't hold up, longterm. the fasteners holding the knife together loosen overtime. The tiny screw heads strip out if you breathe on them, and the two halves of the knife don't mate up or align properly if you do manage to tighten the screws. In addition, the location of the blade release button near the blade means that your finger *will* hit it at the wrong moment. Stripping wire, sharpening a pencil, squaring out corners in drywall... any task that requires pressure and torsion on the blade. Annoying at best, dangerous at worst. I like folding knives, just not this one.
CMOS Crash these are knives to beat on and put to heavy use in a workshop. Of course a benchmade knife or a spiderco or whatever is fat superior to them put I would never get my hriptilian into the workshop. Edc and craftsmanship are different worlds.
Could you give a detailed look at the blade dispenser because I don't know how that works and I would like to know all of its features before I get one for my utility cutter
Zunar Zulfiqar The blade dispenser is fairly simple (not something that I will be making a video about.....possibly adding it into the written review on these with pics), but in essence ---- the used blades have a slot in the top so you can safely dispose of them (cant fall out) & the new blades slide out one at a time from the bottom. It also have a nail/peg hole to hang it up on the wall. I really like that it has the place for used blades (vs throwing them directly in the trash & having them cut the bag).
You didn't hear him state, "as new and before any break in"... so I will go out on a limb and come to the wild conclusion that they were simply not "loose" enough as completely "new" for the one-handed opening without break-in or loosening or grease the turn-mechanism for a wrist flip-opening.
if them razors get dull, I jus do a very low angled sharpen on my smith's fine an coarse side sharpener, only use the fine fer the razors found that out the bad way....
I used mine to cut out a series of heatwr core hoses, after 4 hoses the blade was gone. Granted ive had the knife for about a year and have used it but it cut the first hose like butter and gradually lost the edge..
I have all of those knives and you know what you don’t need two hands to open them you push the button and swing it and the blade flies open like it’s hungry for blood
I don't know man, the package for these knives show pressing the button and flipping it open. I would say that's "the right way" Milwaukee intended them to be used...
This guy doesn't know enough about knives to be making this review. I'm sorry. I think I actually screamed when he called the Liner lock "a piece of metal" and the scales "housing".
I have had the spring assisted one for over a year, it's with me everyday at work and I love it
+Thomas Etchebarren Nice! It is really a nice knife.
Its been 8 years how's the knife now?😂
“Piece of metal” is actually called a liner lock. Love all your videos man, Best channel on RUclips!

Andre juneau Nice....I use the version 1 all the time with no complaints.

Thanks for the review. I picked up a 2 pack of the Original Fastbacks the other day on clearance at Home Depot.
Russ Webster No problem! Thanks for watching! Oh, and the next day I saw some on clearance too....hard to say no to clearance knives....
Ive actually 'wanted to make a video on this very subject because I've used all of them for work. I like that you actually demonstrated the tool. good job

hold the button in and flip ur wrist it's not rocket science
As he said, after a break in.
great review, have the original fastback for over a year now..love it. use it for work so I don't mess up my higher end knives. great product
Matt Perry Nice....glad to hear you like yours Matt! Thanks!
i bought the fastback razor type 2 weeks ago and i love it
Jonathan Lessard Awesome! I use them daily....great knives all around.
Thank u I sub and turned on like I opened my brother's knife and it wasn't like the other knives so I looked it up and u helped me thx

I’ve never seen this advertised, but the hawk bill knife is the best $15 an electrician can spend. It’s a flat-out wire-skinning wonder.
The FastBack safety razors are awesome. I have tried a few others and I think these are the best.
GreaseMonkey Supreme I definitely like them a LOT more than retractable razors.
well, if your thumb hits the lock/unlock button on _any_ of them they could open.
anyway, that lock feature means they should be convertible to automatic with a spring kit.
I really want the spring assisted knife, but none of my local Home Depot’s carry them in store
You have such a nice workshop.
+kobelcofan Thanks!

+Mark Leone Lol.....this seems to be a common theme with the belt clips......hopefully it will be improved in future models! :)

Love my Fastback 2, I know Milwaukee says you can put 1 blade in the storage but I have no problem fitting 2 Milwaukee blades in there.
+Christopher Sipes Good to know...I rarely use the Fastback II, but I will keep that in mind...thanks!
Christopher Sipes that’s odd I work in a warehouse and carry one of the fastback 2s and I can fit up to 4 blades in storage
Real Tool Reviews i’ve fit up to 4 blades in the storage on my fastback as well!

I really like the spring assisted knife. One handed operation. The safety button ones seem so unnecessary and cumbersome.

It works like a switch blade just flick it and push the button. The with difference is 3/16 you hardly notice it
I completely disagree!

to ur 2nd point, they obviously made a mistake calling it an edc but they are not made to last for generations.
Could you give a detailed look at the blade dispenser because I don't know how that works and I would like to know all of its features before I get one for my utility cutter

Zunar Zulfiqar o
great video
you are the only one guy who can make perfect review
pretty sure its called "fastback" for a reason... if you need more than one hand to open one of these, just don't buy one. ever.
great video accept the part where you say its hard to one hand open like wtf you can just swing it open almost as easy as spring assisted
You didn't hear him state, "as new and before any break in"... so I will go out on a limb and come to the wild conclusion that they were simply not "loose" enough as completely "new" for the one-handed opening without break-in or loosening or grease the turn-mechanism for a wrist flip-opening.
All you do with the regular fastback is hold the button and then flick out all can be done with one hand
Great review once again. I noticed you have the new Dewalt impact wrench. Were you planning on doing a review for that one?
Jordan Ponce Good eye! Yep, that one is not only getting a full review (with torque testing), but also some VS videos coming up ;)
Oh awesome can't wait :)
What is the model number for the assist open one
If you whip it while you press the button even the new ones flip open easily
Yes, however for “safety reasons”, I try and stick with the simple method in vids to prevent people from accidentally hurting themselves.
The Fastback two can hold three extra blades in storage
Hello I have the first fastback do these require Milwaukee only blades... Tried a different one and it keeps falling out
Angel Garcia try another brand, I have one of those knives and I use any brand of blades, here in Canada we have something called mastercraft
Angel Garcia No, you can use utility blades by all manufacturers in them
excellent review! Love every one of them!
I believe I will be sticking with my zero tolerance 0562cf lol
I will stick with my extra 160 dollars in my pocket thanks very much :-)
I have the original, hawkbill and the original razor knife. The hawkbill is my daily carry. The razor knife stays in my tool bag.
if them razors get dull, I jus do a very low angled sharpen on my smith's fine an coarse side sharpener, only use the fine fer the razors found that out the bad way....
+jake lovemore Interesting....thanks!
Nice job
George S Thanks George!
I’m gonna buy all of them 🤣 I have 4 so far
I used mine to cut out a series of heatwr core hoses, after 4 hoses the blade was gone. Granted ive had the knife for about a year and have used it but it cut the first hose like butter and gradually lost the edge..
Awesome video!
so my fastback pocket knife is super dull (outta the package) does anyone else think so?
I have the fast back 2 didn't like the wire belt clip on the original ones.
I have all of those knives and you know what you don’t need two hands to open them you push the button and swing it and the blade flies open like it’s hungry for blood
The safety police love to complain if I don’t show the “safe” way to do things…. So I agree, but not everyone can do that unfortunately.
@@RealToolReviews fair enough
i can store 4 blades in my fastback
Jason Fairfield I can store that many in my bungalow
Flawless buddy!
The coating on the razors fails. Its not durable at all.
8:27 goodbye blade, watch in 0.5 speed for extra sadness.
It is a replaceable razor blade....not a 500yr old samurai sword
you don't know how to use the one handed ones
Perhaps I don't want people cutting themselves by showing a flip-open action --- so I show them "the right way" to do it instead....
okay
I don't know man, the package for these knives show pressing the button and flipping it open. I would say that's "the right way" Milwaukee intended them to be used...
These are awesome
Could you review the dewalt 12v line
This guy doesn't know enough about knives to be making this review. I'm sorry. I think I actually screamed when he called the Liner lock "a piece of metal" and the scales "housing".
I gotta say for me these Milwaukee knifes are junk the blades start coming out of the knife while cutting after about 1 month of use
What are you doing , battoning the thing ?
Trying to split firewood ?
I live it Daniel
👍
the belt clips suck falls out of my pocket every day
Belt clip was actually what got me to buy one in the first place, works great for me. I'm carrying fastback and fastback II. which are you using?
mrbananamanification Sorry to hear that.....I assume it got bent somewhere along the way.
nice vid
Thank you god bless you in the name of Jesus Christ Christ 🙏✝️amen✝️🙏
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤
bellissimi
God I hate adds before the video. Anyway I been eyeballing these knives. There probably good knives for work but damn there ugly as shit.
Don’t do upside down video 🤮
Your face says 20 but your eyes say 40, no offense and great video
+FoodOnCrack Better than 80 I suppose....
Dewalt makes a much better all metal stronger knife. The Milwaukee is junk.
You don’t show the best Milwaukee Fastback. With Screwdriver!
You only need a knife ? There’s so much better ones!
👍
