    Don't take what people say on the Internet so seriously, I'm a digital artist and I appreciate your work. We use referenced materials all the time too and those reference models look nice! I tend to look up reference on a Internet search engine but it's so tedious to go back and forth on screen to paper compared to those models. And digital sculpting programs are also tedious and require a lot of patience to understand, not to mention printing out a digital model will cost a lot more than those reference models you have and won't look half as decent as the way it was digitally sculpted.

    I am also an artist and a sculptor but I do art dolls. I would love to have this kind of reference to go by. You have to remember that many of the people on You Tube are very young and don't understand what REAL art is. I'm not saying all young people, because there are lots of young talented artists out there that could benefit from your tutorials. I love watching them and I've been sculpting for over 20 years now, but I'm never too old to learn something new. Keep up the good work! Dee

    I'm a CG artist and I love anatomy. I have some anatomy Atlas like Prometheus and I spend lots of hours on the net looking for new references. I think References are the key for any good artist or creator in any way. I can perfectly understandwhy do you spend money and have those figures. That just means you LOVE what you do and that just makes you a better artist and that for sure may be seen in the final results of your work so I just have to thank you for sharing that with all of us.

    • @clayguy1
      @clayguy1  10 лет назад +3

      I totally agree.. if you go into trying to create a figure without reference.. your work will look like a skin packed with meat ....

    da Vinci also used real human corpses in his anatomical studies and produced some of the greatest art ever of the human form because of it. Models such as your's are as close one can get to having a 3D representation that one can investigate for great detail without using a real body. You sir are in good company of the masters who use as accurate models as possible. Keep up the good work. Ignore the haters cause there will always be haters.

    Because of the willingness to share your knowledge, people like me [amatures] can improve our craft & learn to be better artists. Your comment regarding Michael Angelo, is very true! People who took those risks not only helped art be as amazing as those old masters made theirs, but also helped medicine & healthcare be what it is today.
    I think many are better informed & can enjoy their art to a greater degree, thanks to people like you, who take time to upload videos.
    I thank you for doing so.

    Fabulous video and explanation. No apology is needed at all. I am a figure artist using polymer clay so I know how important using visual aids can be. I am taking my sculpting to a whole new level and wanting to sculpt portrait sculpts in 1/6th scale or perhaps 1/4 scale. I was used to working in 1/8 to 1/10th scale for the past 9 years. I feel I need to venture out. ;-) Thank you for the videos and I will look at your store.

    Because I'm an artist and I have to know human anatomy extremely well (male and female) my family, when I tell them that I study human form carefully, think that it's creepy and that I'm, well... a bit of a perv.... It's hard being an artist sometimes and I feel really embarrassed sometimes, especially because I'm still learning and am the only artist in my community. I'm alienated, and judged for creating. :(

    Anyone who uses the word "pervert" indicates more about themselves than about the person they're referring to. There will always be people in the online world who are offended by nudity, and want to express their offense by insulting others. A sad reality.
    I've wanted these reference figures for a long time now, but with shipping coming in at over $125 to send to Australia, I'll have to wait a while longer. They seem an awesome reference for artists. Can't wait to get them!

      David Lemon I truly admire your work. I usually use figures as references for sculpting but after seeing your video I think I will invest in correct anatomy figures. I'm a sculptor of intermediate level but the truth is I am now rusty because I took a year or two to develop my own articulated armature. I actually enjoy turning my sculptures into dolls. Those people are fools for being arrogant enough to think that they know what is better for you then you do.

    • @JohnDoe-pe8ts
      @JohnDoe-pe8ts 10 лет назад

      That's great! You've definitely hit a gold mine. You're lucky to find armatures for that cheap. The truth is that I've seen armatures online, however, none of them were quite what I was looking for. This is because either the armatures I saw were partially but not fully articulated, they had full articulation but were really expensive(completely reasonable considering they can be challenging to make), or they used wire for articulation which inevitably breaks. I wanted to be able to produce large quantities of dolls with full articulation that could be manipulated over and over again without breaking. For example, if I made a historical battle scene with my figures/dolls that called for 200+ men and horses(being able to manipulate every doll/figure) most would say that the only affordable way to make such a scene quickly would be to use wire armature. However, with my method I can pump out about 4 or 5 fully articulated armatures a day which isn't bad. I've studied how some make fully articulated armatures with ball bearings and a drill press which is time consuming(sometimes 10 or more hours for a single armature) and chances are that even if I did master the process it wouldn't be efficient for my goals if I needed to create large quantities of figures/dolls. I do plan on using the ball bearing socket joint method and trying it out to see how it works for future projects. That's usually what I see stop motion companies use. I originally tried using wire which I could make dozens of dolls/figures a day. However, inevitably they broke very easily.

    I actually clocked up age 66 on August 24 this year.
    When I was a young painter and illustrator I took a lot of shit from the kind of puritanical philistines who abused you. Like you I tried to make excuses for them... back then.
    You mentioned, Michelangelo in your reply. Most of his magnificent nudes in the Sistine Chapel were vandalised with crudely painted drapes to placate the inquisition's puritan zealots after his death.
    Art and prudery are, and have always been sworn enemy's.

    I have to admit that I don't get it - you're a perv for having anatomical models?
    Sorry, I can't wrap my mind around that.
    The sculpts look very nice though, but wouldn't something a little more dynamic be better if you want to do more livingposes? I mean, a static model like that won't show you exactly how a muscle twists as its being used.

    Don't pay no mind to the people who called you a prev. If they can't understand how valuable this is as a reference then they are either very young or not even artists.

    Just happened to stumble onto this video. I have 0 art skill. The last "art" I created was with Play-doh 30+ years ago. That being said...any person with a 6th grade education would know the purpose of having those sculptures.

    Why is it that people complain about artists working in nude forms but they don't complain about medical school students or doctors working with nude forms?

    First of all: You don't have to explain yourself to anyone... But especially to those who're unwilling to afford themselves the smallest amount of perspective or attempted understanding...
    Next: Excluding the fact that you have a male version of the body there as well, and not even considering why anyone would paint, draw, photograph, or sculpt the female figure; what in the world could possibly be perverted about an adult male finding an adult female body attractive?
