Mr Olafsson played this an Encore at our Sydney Opera House Concert Hall on Saturday Evening - I fair dinkum blubbered for the power fullest beauty of Bach and Vikingur's powerful beauty. It was magnificent - I wept then and now.

I have a dilemma. I would prefer to hear this wonderful music on an instrument J S Bach himself might have played. However, Vikingur plays Bach like an angel, on a modern piano! Absolutely glorious! Bravissimo!

When Bach visits the Romantic period of music history. Sounds very much like a piano piece. A lovely piano solo.

one of the earliest cassette tapes i bought was emil gilels playing the lyric pieces by grieg. it was one of my favorite recordings, i wore the tape out by playing it so much. i still treasure my memories of listening to it.

A beautiful gesture! Vikingur Olafsson certainly have an immense talent for Bach, his dramatic expression and his seamless polyphony. Thank you!

You are a god for Bach interpretation.
And Emil is proud of you.
    I know.
    Is almost the same touch.
I love so much Gilels that is so touching when someone dedicate something for him....,

Just stumbled upon Vikingur's work after a search for the Goldberg Variations.
What a lucky day for me to find this talented young man's artwork!
    Looking forward to more videos.

Well... Which language should I comment here? The concert was in Moscow) never mind - Vikingur is absolutely great, I love him) I've just opened the new name for myself in the sky of Music) Thanks a lot for the beautiful performance , as well as for the memory of famous Emil Gilels) what I'd like to wish to Vikingur - if he would have a chance to touch with legacy of Samuel Feinberg... I think, he would love him at least not less than Emil Gilels. I think everyone who loves Bach can't stay indifferent when meeting legacy of Feinberg) I hope Vikingur will also enjoy that legacy)

Questo pezzo si suona da solo, basta seguire le note una dopo l'altra. Non c'è altro modo di farlo.

Not sure a mobile phone is a good thing to listen to this on. It sounds a bit too hammered-out, unfortunately. Probably one needed to be at the concert?

I thought he was going to do a Victor Borge impersonation: a Swede impersonating a Dane playing a German! What could be better?

@@dimaphone2984 i listened to eilander playing it, and i felt it a bit too subtle and genteel. i thought olafsson displayed more emotion.

@@biancacastafiore8760 Agreed, Ólafsson's version is my favourite too (and also the first one I encountered, which may have affected my preference:)

@@dimaphone2984 i suppose it’s a matter of interpretation, there’s nothing wrong with eilander’s approach and perhaps the master JSB would have approved of it. but i just noticed that vikingur “playing” with/varying more the tempo and dynamics.

Я задоволений цією композицією. Дуже вразливо, але щось не дочув. Може у ті роки х Бахом не жив.
