DAMN now it’s 2024 and all the power trains on the buses are EPA standard and Cummins based. No more Detroit Diesel It’s crazy to think they’ve gotten so much quieter and fuel efficient but, I prefer these old beasts to any Novabus LFS or New Flyer XN40 especially those Battery buses (rather have more trolley buses). Great upload very nostalgic and a fun trip back to the past!
It's very nice to hear people syaing "Thankyou" as they leave the bus at their stop. Quite common in Calgary and many western cities. Didn't seem to happen nearly s much in Toronto and other eastern cities when I have been there.
This bus is now our office and lunch room at the new location of the transit museum (TRAMS) The only other classics left in Metro Vancouver is a 1990 MCI S4276 and is now also in the TRAMS collection.
TRAMS is currently using 2805 as an office. It is not in running condition since it was vandalized in 2010 by metal thieves. It is still able to be restored if a solution can be found to replace the missing components to the speed controller.
kadooment95 I recall some of the 89s (from 8942 and on) sounding somewhat different from the 91s and 93s, or even from the other 89s. I heard that the 93s eventually got retrofitted with a DOC muffler to reduce emissions between 2004-2006 as well as some 1989s, which may explain the variance in sound between them. The 91s sound almost exactly the same despite not having the DOC mufflers. My guess is that when they rebuilt the 89s, they retrofitted the DOC mufflers on the repainted buses, while buses in the original scheme did not get it. There were only five 1993s repainted and rebuilt but my source says that all of them got it, so I don't know...
Nah, not really. That newer V731 vs. the old ass VS2-8 makes it sound more like a GMC RTS, but it did sound a tiny bit like the AMG when it reved up high.
Ninja Bus Fan True. Yeah almost every RTS until the early 1990's had a V730 or V731 tranny and all had 6V71Ns, 8V71Ns, or 6V92TAs. The feeling of the AMG when it runs is interesting. You start out sorta slow, pick up some speed and then burst into action on the second gear.
TheCRTman I wish we had some RTS's up here but the only time we did was during the Olympics. So it'll always be those transmissions with one of those engines ? Yea, at first i thought this guy is soo slow but then as it kicked into second I was like WOAH.
Ninja Bus Fan I'm surprised you even had any during the Olympics. Did you ride one? Before circa 1990 it always was for RTS's. When you hit that 3rd gear, you start flyin'!

I always liked the way an 89 classic sounds. A bit more throutier than the 90 classics and not as jerky of a transmission.

Ah, finally a clip of a 1989 Classic!

Yeah, the 89's were always loud....you should check out the 91's and 93's from Ottawa...HUGE difference.

norwalk transit district retired their 1991 mci classic bus 166 in january 2010
TheCRTman IDK, but our 1989 MCI Classics for some reason ( IMO ) sounds like your 1975 AMG bus :/

TheCRTman Well it kinda did but I gotta ride both to actually know the difference. So these sounds like the old RTS's ?
