Lotus Blossom song story by Michael Franks:💙🎵 Particularly inspired was “Lotus Blossom” (arranged by Seawind’s Larry Williams), originally an instrumental penned by keyboardist Don Grolnick. It was recorded first by saxophonist David Sanborn on his 1978 album, Heart To Heart (produced by John Simon, the occasion upon which Michael first met him). “I saw Don one night with Steps at Seventh Avenue South and asked if he’d consider someone writing lyrics,” Michael recalls. “The melody just lent itself so well to storytelling.” The late Eric Gale’s trademark economical blues-picking melts like butter between the lines of this letter to a far-from-reach lover.
