i don't know the philippines and how people there choose which language to speak at which times, but i was really struck how so many girls went full english in the "please leave us alone while we're eating" section, can anyone more knowledgeable explain the significance there? or just a coincidence? and i don't watch as many documentaries as most, and certainly not as much as nikki, so my experience is limited, but i really feel like this is exceptionally well made! the way they use the growing up stories obviously makes us root for each of the girls, but splitting them up with present day jokes or TENSE MUSIC also helps drive home how different they all are, giving each story a chance to breathe gives each a chance to really connect: all the kids who lost a parent, or have trouble expressing themselves to their family, or feel shy about their bodies, there's a bini story for just about every kid, every kid can feel a little less alone. that's really beautiful!! the most poignant to me was jhoanna connecting her work now, to her dad's work keeping him away from the family growing up, and it was REALLY nice to bookend that with a scene of them at a cafe or whatever, together :') i love this content!!!
Regarding language, English is the 2nd official language of the Philippines. Historically, this is due to the American occupation in the country in the early 1900's and their establishment of formal education to the general public, compared to the prior Spanish rule, where education was only mostly available to the social elite. While the Philippines have a ton of different languages (up to 180+), I would say a good chunk of the population can understand English, if not speak it (fluency is variable from place to place, and person to person). Two of the members -- Aiah and Colet -- have Bisaya as their primary language with English and Filipino/Tagalog as secondary languages. In the region where they came from, it's quite commonplace to hear people speak English more fluently than Filipino/Tagalog. On the other hand, there's Mikha who, is more fluent in English than Filipino/Tagalog, due to her upbringing (her family is a bit well off than the others). Lastly, when Filipinos speak the native langauge with English, it's generally called "Taglish" (Tagalog + English). P.S. Love your observations about the documentary.
Thank you for your reactions to BINI i actually feel that you are one of the genuine reactors in youtube. I actually felt the connection with you. Thank you!
their canada tour they looked healthy because they seemed they had enough rest before the tour. except jhoanna. she didnt make it to kcon which was like an aftermath of her collapsing in gensan. but after that they looked energetic and healthy. that time in between regional tour was just really hectic to the minute. they had a lot going on that their bodies just gave out. they pulled the weight to catch up to their rising fame
I dunno why the girls were still feeling the heat when the concert hall in Waterfront was cold af, got a li'l warmer though with more bodies coming in. Dont even know why Bini's staff requested for electric fans when the dressing room they were in was fully AC'd. Unless it malfunctioned somehow, maybe that's the reason why.
there was a little snippet of chapter 3 at the end. it was so little tho. im not sure if they will be releasing it this year tho. they're packed for the holiday events after the grand biniverse
