My only problem with Kendrick Lamar is that after listening to him everything else sounds like shit.
same here :/
Trevor W Tru
yup
jcole be holding it down with him tho!
Trevor W lol tru
That bottle spinning forever, could be symbolic of Kendrick's uncertainty about where he needs to go at such a low point in his life.
Also, Kendrick is a damn good actor
That's not acting, that's real pain caught on camera.
Aaron Joshua Ramsey fosho.
moe that’s his real pain that he expresses on camera.
moe he probably knows what it looks like to be heavily drunk because he grew up with alcoholics
moe that’s actually dope. what really drawn me closer to kendrick was that he leaves deep messages that only a logical mind can solve
TPAB was the struggle. DAMN was the revelation. Mr. Morale is peace. Kendrick has found himself and that's a beautiful thing. I'm happy for him
That is perfect
GKMC was the life of his younger self
@@danny831g I think section 80 is his teenage years and then gkmc his after he grows up to an adolescent hence it being a coming of age album
@@rasesb he worked on them at the same time so they will have more in common than differences.

Kendrick isn’t even an actor, but he’s so passionate about his craft that his performance is ridiculous.

Saw some comment talking about his acting skills. Was gonna say the same thing, but figured it wasnt worth my breath to explain its not acting really.
That’s not even acting. That’s real feelings right there.

He was pretty great at playing a crackhead on power 😂😂😂
dude is obviously a world class rapper but his acting skills are unexpectedly really good lmao
diana 2pac
diana well idk why he would be acting about his bad decisions in his past
wtf are u talking about hes obviously acting regardless of his decisions and the intrinsic weight his lyrics carry recording this shit takes hours on hours like a movie multiple takes so i think hes acting xD
Blah Bam duh dipshit that's what the man JUST said. His acting was unexpectedly good! It really was TBH, but it was more so I feel, an acting of himself & how is inner thoughts felt during the regret & pain
diana what acting skills? dude starts drinkin and raps all crazy hes not acting lol
To Pimp a Butterfly is easily an album that goes up there for top rap albums ever. Illmatic, Madvillainy, MBDTF, Aquemini, Late Registration, are all on a similar level of legendary

I can’t be the only one that’s broke down in tears listening to this at one point in time, this song hits different when you’re in a low state.
No fr. couple years ago (and sometimes now) I was battling over my faith with God and just struggling in my faith. This song really did it for me. “Loving you is complicated” was l like my frustration with God and I just resonated with it so well. Even now during that second beat I cried a lil. That third beat/transition with the “I want you” and “when I get you” the devil speaking dang that killed me

“u” is a masterpiece . One of my favorites off TPAB and truly a unreal song. This song is the embodiment of shame, guilt and depression, expressed beautifully. Truly another great to Kendrick’s discography

The 1st half of this had me in tears, aside from thinking of myself, but thinking of my own sister as well as half brother...the 2nd half, in my mind, ironically was telling the truth in ways...I will always respect Kendrick for how real he is in his music
I just realized this but I'm not sure if I'm slow, or I'm the only one that realized this. On the album, "U" is played before "For Sale?" And "For Sale" is a song about the devil (Lucy) trying to talk Kendrick into selling his soul. When you combine the two song titles you get "U For Sale?"

Ajet Shqiptar bro one more big album then the kdot x cole album drop then I’ll be comfortable with him retiring. MAYBE.
Man, Kendrick Lamar really dives deep. One of many examples: On "u" Kendrick reveals the mind-state of someone who is suicidal and mercilessly attacks the chores of his identity ... he is known for being humble he attacks that he is known for being about unity he attacks that etc. It's like if a tabloid decided to expose Kendrick in an attempt to expose him as a fraud but he does it on himself.
Its not the fake generic introspection we hear in many rap songs. The introspection is so deep he is near disowning himself because of the pain regret and shame. He doesn't just slap power love and positivity on it which in any case is a simple conclusion for a very complex problem. And him actually vocalising those internal screams many suicidal people experience because they been holding back for so long is soooooooo well thought and placed. And just like with his other songs the video enriches the experience and provides clues
If I was Jcole and I was seeing Kendrick just screaming at me in my dreams...I would apologize too😂

@@original_USA_cowgirlhe’s referring to the devil “Lucy”. He’s saying you can’t beat him with wit alone because he also knows the playbook also representing how certain institutions will take advantage of young black people by promising you a good life but ultimately failing to provide this like an abusive relationship (everything is purely transactional without any real emotional connection). Anyone can fall for an abusive relationship even if they are educated on what an abusive relationship is. Lucy wants your soul and will go to any means to take it from you.
@@phillemon7664 Lucifer can't take your soul unless you give it to him therefore he may play tricks in order to manipulate u into willingly giving it up. However I know what he was saying and I knew who he was referring to when he said "Lucy". " Remember he knows the Bible too" can mean two things 1.) You don't need the church or a Bible to grow closer to God, therefore if you need guidance go outside look to the sky and ask for it directly from God. 2.) The devil and his workers know the bible just as much as anyone else if not better, therefore they are also within the church too.what makes you think there's popes that molest children, popes Killing baby's, pastors committing adultery etc. Why go to church if you scared when the devil's ghouls are there to take advantage of your vulnerability with manipulating u to do much more sin???

For whoever is confused by this song:
It's about him keeping his Christian faith even though Hollywood and fame makes lots of evil temptations. He is also talking about trying not to become corrupted. Kendrick has not sold his soul guys.
Trust me. He's not a Christian. He just makes references to God. Idk why everyone thinks he's Christian. And BTW this is coming from a Christian.

+TripleVVater he is a christian he said so himself. and has brought it up times before in previous songs.
+TripleVVater Try again.
+Cyber Gilbert i hope hes not christian ill lose so much respect
In the first song "U" Kendrick shows his inner struggle with being successful. This takes place after his release of GKMC after finding out that one of his best friends had just died and that he decided to go on with his tour rather than postpone and go back to LA to see his friend, to at the very least see his homeboy who was shot and in the hospital. So he feels guilty for making it out of the hood while all his friends are still in the hood dying, so after learning that his friend died he just drank himself to a rage in 'that hotel room.' He really puts his life into his music
Sergio P "I'm not your favorite rapper, I'm Marilyn Manson"
TPAB is my favourite Kendrick album... this was art and lyrics. The funk and jazz influence in the album immediately solidified it as a classic to me.
I still think this is one of the best pieces of Kendrick. Great performance, interesting idea and lyrics. I can't even call this "rap", it feels more like a piece of art.
I feel really really blessed to live in the same age as Kendrick and Cole
Impact Editing nah bruh cole is nowhere near this shit
tHiNinKnG Currently but he’s still a great. They’re the Tupac and Biggie of our generation. Don’t @ me
@LUCAS RUHE Kendrick is miles better artist than j Cole way better
Both are Amazing Artist. Both have made Albums that are impactful. Cole hasn't and might not make an album no where near as influential as TPAB. He did make one that, personally for me, has made an impact on a lot of listeners. Especially myself (KOD being that album). I wouldn't go as far to say Dot is miles ahead/way better than Cole. Dot is the best and Cole is second. But that margin isn't large. I don't like pinning artist against each other cause they put the work in to become the best in their generation and in the game right now.
Mank ????
This song is about not two people but one man hating on himself in a drunken depression for doing some bad decisions in his life. He is yelling at himself in a hotel room as you can tell by the "house cleaning" and this song is about regret. Pay attention to the lyrics not the jazzy beat and this song is far more depressing.

Depression is a complicated mindset.
DamienVoid44 Depression can be a really complicated mind set. Alot of ppl that are functional within depression self medicate to get through it; all the while speaking the trues of where they are to themselves.
DamienVoid44 I wouldn't call it just a 'mindset'. It's more complicated, it begins to become part of you. Sometimes you want to feel depression because for some twisted reason, you miss it. It becomes familiar. It's the same reason why alot of people who go to drug rehab and are sucessfully treated will eventually go back to a life of drugs; because the brain longs familiarity and so it decides that rather than taking a step forward it'd be much easier to take a step backwards. Mindsets are much easier to control.

His resentments. His inner conflict. Him trying to understand. Him self blame for things that weren’t his fault. His confusion. His life. Very relatable even though our lives vary. And this is why I love his music.
I remember listening to this the first time it came out when I was highschool and resonated back then but on a different level fast-forward I resonate with it differently. Thank you God for always being there even when I denied you and was at my darkest ❤🙏🏾You forgiving me and accepting me is true unconditional love.
“u” is so fucking dark. It takes a special kind of rapper to talk about the guilt he carries about his sister who got pregnant and the friend he left behind in Compton to die.
Shit still happeneds
Kendrick going through spiritual warfare and putting it out there for everyone to see. Dude got mad courage. Lets not take that for granted. Pray for him. He needs it as much as we all do.
Noel Lozano finally some one realizes whats going on in this video and with him this message flew over so many ppls heads
Amen
Well said thank U Amen.
Was going* Its been a while, hope hes fine
Amen
I like to listen to this in the gym. It reminds me why im working out, its a healthy habit that is keeping me sane. Its very tough to hold back a tear in the middle of the gym. Always stay busy and stay working on yourself. We always have the ability to offer others a better version of ourselfs. .❤
The greatest album ever composed written and produced.
This video ends with Kendrick taking a walk and DAMN. begins with So I was taking a walk the other day. So after the events of Lucy (Lucifer) comes DAMN. where he talks about being cursed and his actions to come back to God! Genius KDot
Ashraf J I just noticed that! At the end says Fin. Genius! The Blind Lady is Lucy
Blüqmpf alright is in between u and for sale interlude so this is defo connected to alright, its the follow up to alright
I love this thread, this is how Kendricks music makes you think.
I thought that maybe lucy/lucifer represents the rap industry which brought him money and fame and the greed to leave his fsmily behind in compton. Maybe thats what lucy offers him but at the same time would take his soul
Caspar A he never left Compton though 🤔
*When he said*
"Little brother you promised you’d watch him before they shot him"
*I felt that*
What does "i can feel your vibe and realize that your ashamed of me, yes i hate you too" mean?
@@Hooded-Tet if i’m sure i’m right i think this is him talking to the alcohol itself. he knows he shouldn’t be drinking the alcohol and he’s ashamed of it.
@@eduardont3628 i think it was when some of his close friends had died also he was a heavy drinker
isnt this an extension of the part on "sing about me"?
no it’s even worse when you hear the other lines “third surgery they couldn’t stop the bleeding”
“Then he died, god’ll say you fucking failed, you ain’t try”
In my opinion the whole 2:35-3:50 is the best part of the song, it shows the real guilty conscience. How he felt when his people died and he had felt he caused it.
Without any self-marketing, Kendrick took over the world. Real poet, best new generation hip hop artist by far.
You ain't no brother
You ain't no disciple
You ain't no friend
Travis: the highest in the room

+Sebastien Benjamin Name one Pac song like this? Ill be waiting!!! NOBODY will EVER be the new Pac homie! if anybody close, its Boosie!

+straitacedfan your dumb. Boosie won't be around to long anyway. Cancer man.
My brother got shot and died the year this album dropped, and the lyrics in this song hit me so hard because I felt like it was all my fault my little brother died 😢
Damn bro sorry for you 🙏🏾😔
“A friend never leave Compton for profit” that part hits because he truly is upset that he couldn’t help a lot of his homies who couldn’t make it out
For those of you that don't understand!:
The first part of the song is really up for debate. But basically Kendrick speaks about how it is hard to love himself because of all of the things he's done and blah blah blah ( listen to the lyrics). On the other hand this conflict could be with God... Because of all the terrible things God has let happen to Kendrick, and his family and friends he finds it hard to love him. Again the first part is up for debate as to whether or not Kendrick speaks about himself or God.
The second part of the song is about Lucy tempting him. Lucy is another name for Lucifer, or the Devil. So yes the Devil does try to tempt Kendrick. But no, Kendrick is not in the illuminati or Satanist. He in fact declines the offer and stays true to himself and to God.
Hope this Helped
McCrusty Lucy is symbolic of profit, money. Kendrick pursues money whether he chooses to or not knowing that it is "the root of all evil". You seriously have to be schizophrenic to think it's about a shadow society or demonic entity.
McCrusty He did sell his soul. but he isn't part of the illuminati. For Sale talks about the outcome
You do know "sold my soul" is a saying right? It means to sell ones creative cultural expression. Soul. It's not a literal selling of the soul. Nobody does that shit in the music industry dude.
Matthew Perez actually they do, one artist back then did sold his soul to perfect his music, and there is a video of Kendrick talking about the meaning behind the video, and in the music industry artist would give anything to succeed perfectly and receive everything for free easily.
Illuminati has nothing to do with this, there's an actual video where people talk about the factual history and not off Wikipedia or wherever they found their sources.
Kendrick is talking about how Lucy will give Kendrick anything he wants in life in exchange for something more greater in life, and "God is Gangsta" is references to many unknown rap Artist. They talk about how the music industry will profit your music and be in charge to make changes, in exchange for a deal that will leave you with no credit or profit from the music you make.
Everything in this song references Religion, shady rap industry, the struggle between good and evil, battling his inner demons, and even talking about how his friend he know was kill, and wasn't there to help or show up to the hospital, and taking it in his friend perspective, telling Kendrick your a rapper trying to save people, but can't stay and save myself from the streets.
Thank you Mc Ryme. Yes people do sell their souls, whether you believe it or not. Andy yes people do it for musical purposes it is not unheard of.
"you called instead of a hospital visit"
facetimed bruh
@@arturospeaks that’s the part I felt the most .
Felt that bruh
The part that hurt the most is when he said that “after the third surgery he bled out, god will say you failed, you didn’t try”
Facts
TPAB helped me thru a DEEP depression. If people don’t understand they don’t understand. But to call it wack is blasphemous
“They say if you’re scared, go to church. But remember, he knows the Bible too.”
When I was first was diagnosed with depression, my mom took me to church to pray instead of therapy. I was so miserable that I got to my knees and prayed for God to make it go away. And needless to say, it didn’t work. This line always brings me back to that time, and I’m thankful that I was able to grow past it.
that line doesn’t discredit God it’s saying the devil knows the bible and will use it against you like he did when he tempted jesus in the desert
@@mercii. and also how he tempted Kendrick in Luci’s Club which when you think about clubs 😭
Those people saying Billie Eilish music is depressing must have never listened to this song.

Lucy=Lucifer. She lurks around K.Dots life in order to taint his legacy and disrupt his relationships back home. It is difficult adjusting to the ideals of fame as "it becomes complicated" - For while success expresses pleasure , it but only perverts the soul as so many like him in Compton suffer over systemic oppression and senseless violence, he finds himself with survivors guilt. In the midst of his tragedy he holds in to his faith in God - though Lucy throws herself to get Kendrick cuz she wants him. Kendrick overcomes in his baptism and accepts his role as an enlightened voice that will break the cycles of distraction and sin. Fame won't rob his soul, he will remain pure In His love for his community but only through God - because Lucy will forever lurk his life... now. As you finish listening listen to Mortal Man. Trust in K.dot to be the voice that will help the culture . (This is my interpretation)
awesome interpretation brother!
Gabriel Arce dope interpretation
Gabriel Arce It's a good theory, but i assure you he has been initiated due to his level of success. I got mad respect for the dude seeing as he's one of the only intelligent rappers out there. He's on satans side whether he believes it or not. The beginning depicts a man at struggle with making the pact, and drinking himself to oblivion to cope. The "celebrity" or "star" takes the selfish path to knowledge as they usually go in not knowing what lies on the other side of it. Hollywood is different behind it's doors. Someone truly of a free mind will not join the "secret societies" to find knowledge. I have family, and friends who have been initiated into success. It's not the path to take. The God (Yahweh) and his son Yeshua (Jesus) which the world puts much time, money, and resources into mocking has more power than the being behind the Hollywood & music industry. He knows his time is short, and that he is fucked. Just know if you have something to offer this world and the potential to do good for God you will be approached by lucy. Many fall for the fame, fortune, women, drugs, money etc. Those things are temporary. Kendrick is at least trying to put the truth out there now that he has truly seen, and learned the secrets. Problem is its too late. If he attempted to drop any serious knowledge on a large scale through his music or in public he would be MKd like kanye as in reprogrammed if hes lucky pr killed.
Well Said.
Gabriel Arce i respect that
Circling back after 7 years and this is still way beyond its time. What a genius
