For a second I thought they were actually in the game because I have never played Kingdom Hearts
I’m still not sure if the textboxes were edited in before or after dubbing, because of course its a real-time fandub so why would they imbed pre-written lines into the footage, but also it blows my mind that Holly can just Do That with her voice
Most underrated bit of the fandub is Holly doing the "choosing between two options" bit for every dialogue box except for the one where the other option is "This island's full of weirdos"
By all accounts, the way the did the text boxes was by simply modding the text out of the game, and whoever recorded the footage simply moved the cursor between two options and was just going to let Holly figure out what to do with that.
Holly naturally chose the funniest option on the spot

There's something very funny about how sincerely Maleficent's lines are delivered. She's riffing off of the same inane bs that everyone else is, but so confidently declaring that all of this is playing into her master plan.
I meeeean, that's kind of her entire deal for KH 1 and 2. And then she got hit with Nomura's obsession with trying to keep every last plot point relevant for all of eternity and spends all of KH III muttering about the "Date Escape" like a grandmother trying to figure out how computers work.

Came back after the final episode to watch the intro again and OH MY GOD all of it makes sense now. Now I get why they recorded it after they finished the rest of the dub.
I didn't know they recorded the intro first, but that explains why the dialogue lines up so well with where the dub ends up going.

kiffley And that is exactly why they synergize so well with the RTVS crew, "no fuck you" has been their formula across all the improv they do as well, it's great.
Its honestly a great way to prolong the story youre supposed to improvise, without everyone constantly saying something along the lines of "yes, and?" all the time.

Yeah I was going back through it too, and I’m super surprised how much the dream sequence foreshadowed. It makes me wonder whether it was done either after everything else, or if some ideas were planned in advance. Or if it just worked out in the end. Super clever either way.
Honestly even the opening song is foreshadowing as well. “Trace the arteries to find my heart and promise me that you will do no harm” and “My heart beat is still, so do what you will” would, in fact, be statements that align with Kairi doing heart surgery.
I think i remember penny saying on stream once that the dream sequence was recorded last and it was the only part that had a script, so Holly didn't have to do 6 minutes of improv with herself

The whole tree scene is basically three perfect encapsulation of that group dynamic. Sora's just vibing, Riku loves his friends unconditionally but has an undercurrent of irritation, Kairi is either barely present or saying some pseudo-philosophical teen feelings, but both Riku and Kairi will drop everything they're doing to hype Sora up. The polycule will be a lot healthier when Riku gets therapy in dream drop distance
