I road out Hurricane Katrina here on the Gulf Coast South Mississippi. Take my word for it you really do need to leave away from the water. So many poor people lost their lives drowning from the water Katrina pushed up on shore. I live 32 miles from the water but my little town suffered massive damage. The Latitude at which Florence is coming in is higher than normal. Most Cape Verde storms come in from a lower trajectory. Thoughts and Prayers to everyone along the Carolina and Mid-Atlantic Coast
There's nothing better about a Hurricane whether it's traveling higher or lower than normal. But I've never seen a storm come in from this angle in all my 30 years of watching weather and reading about it. Now one would usually surmise that at this level of latitude a storm would be running over cooler waters, especially when you get farther north in the Atlantic Ocean. But those sea surface temps look so damn high and with very little shear (if any) and that high pressure steering it due West Northwest, weakening will take a long time. Katrina became a a monster as it churned up the west side of Florida towards the gulf coast. But fortunately it did weaken some as it encountered some dry air. Maybe the same will happen with Florence as it approaches the coast.

Florence comes from Latin florens for "blossoming" & the verb floreo, meaning "to flower", in the sense of a blossom. What an interesting name for this storm given how it's blossoming.
My suggestion to you is to go to the NOAA's website and read for yourself how they name hurricanes. When I was little they only named hurricanes after girls--all common English names, like Ann, Betty, Susan, etc. I guess in today's politically correct society, they needed to include boys' names and ethnic names, too. Fine with me. It doesn't matter. This naming--now including winter storms--is how the NOAA keeps track of which hurricane did how much damage, the effect on property, etc.

It included DE, NJ (especially hit THE HARDEST), NY, CT, MA, and ME...all the way up the coast. There are people who live in Jersey right where it hit, that STILL don't have their homes repaired. I am originally from the Jersey Shore, so I know from where I speak. FEMA took a month or two to show up; bridge destroyed, houses floating in the bay and ocean, cars destroyed, water at least 6" (feet) or higher in people's houses...the list is endless. Really uncalled for. There is NO ONE on this platform that is mentioning any politics. Please refrain from doing so because all you are doing is trying to incite anger and never ending comments about you and your political leaning.
Don't be. When people move to the south and the shore area, they have to expect these storms. If you can get to higher ground, say Georgia, then do so. No need to be scared. There will still be help around.
HEY! I AM originally from Jersey and it's not all liberals. Go live there then tell me about it. I was born and raised there, only moving out seven years ago due to the extremely high taxes.

I actually hope it causes a hell of a lot of damage in DC if it moves up the east coast. If Trump doesn't have any golf course in the Carolinas FEMA wont be in a hurry to get there.
G.Wayne---The mental image of Trump governing a FEMA camp, I have to admit, brings a chuckle to my brain.Especially given the fact he can't even control the WH he occasionally lives in.
It's supposed to hit the DC area, as did Superstorm Sandy in 2011. I never read--from any reliable sources--that Trump plays golf every week. If you're going to make an unsubstantiated statement, then back it up with actual proof. If not, then keep your nasty comments to yourself, this is NOT a political platform--this is about a major hurricane coming, and YES, it is supposed to go up the east coast--more damage to people's homes, but especially the LOSS OF LIFE; so tell me: what does Trump having a golf course in the Carolina's have to do with the hurricane? Answer: absolutely nothing; by the way, I think he DOES have one here in MB, but I am not sure. Easy enough to research.
From what reliable source did you come to the conclusion that Trump "occasionally" lives in the WH? Back up your statement with credible and substantiated sources; if you can't then you're just another one in the line of haters who are furious that they can't do what they want to and get away with it anymore.

Nicky Scanlan Damn, calm down. And they were right. This could become a 5. If you did watch coverage you’d know they have said it could be a 5. I’ve seen many meteorologists say that about this hurricane.
Ai Chihuahua!
Is all this rain good for Peanuts Farmers ?
It's really good for the farmers that have switched over to the new GMO "algae" peanut
Michael Brin--I've heard tell the peanuts will be as big as pumpkins.Only problem is they'll be all water and very little nut.
Reminds me of what Trump does to the DNC...
WOW ARE YOU ONE DUMB ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS LIBERAL
Libtard
Really uncalled for. There is NO ONE on this platform that is mentioning any politics. Please refrain from doing so because all you are doing is trying to incite anger and never ending comments about you and your political leaning.
OMG I'M SO SCARED
In South Carolina and we are too
Stay safe
It’s literally water and wind calm down
Don't be. When people move to the south and the shore area, they have to expect these storms. If you can get to higher ground, say Georgia, then do so. No need to be scared. There will still be help around.
I hope it hits liberal jersey
Ibasovereign How nice. Wishing death and destruction for those who have opposing views from you. That’s the spirit. /s
The asshole running the country has given this person approval to bully anyone as a rule of law - get out and vote
HEY! I AM originally from Jersey and it's not all liberals. Go live there then tell me about it. I was born and raised there, only moving out seven years ago due to the extremely high taxes.
Ibasovereign---Are you a sovereign citizen? Do you think you're above the rule of law? If so please do us all a favor and go on a camping trip to the beautiful beaches of central NC.I'd suggest you leave immediately so as to get the best campsite closest to the water.I hear kayak rentals are on special pricing this weekend.
I actually hope it causes a hell of a lot of damage in DC if it moves up the east coast. If Trump doesn't have any golf course in the Carolinas FEMA wont be in a hurry to get there.
G. Wayne wow that’s funny ... do you fart in church to get a laugh too ??
G.Wayne---The mental image of Trump governing a FEMA camp, I have to admit, brings a chuckle to my brain.Especially given the fact he can't even control the WH he occasionally lives in.
WOW.. let's bring politics into it, that helps
First!
