You guys are birding superstars now! I’ve gotten a lot of comments on how great it was to see you guys and your passion for birding. In fact, I’m in West Virginia, speaking to the Brooks bird club now and several people watch my videos and commented on you guys. They all mentioned that you guys are the future of Birding and Conservation. Take care!
Loved the snowy highlight - nice of you to honor the bird in this way. Also, thank you for encouraging future generations of nature lovers. You are doing great things!!!
Another great video, Sparky, and the star was indeed the Snowy. If I recall correctly, I believe a Snowy’s eyeballs are as big as a human’s. They are well-adapted for what they do.
I wish RUclips made it easier to find good birding channels like yours. This just showed up in my feed and I’m glad it did! Excellent video. I’m subscribed and looking forward to seeing more.
Great footage of the snowy and glad to see you were responsible with how close you were getting. I was able to see him back on February 23rd and that day there were about a dozen photographers chasing him from perch to perch. I think sometimes people focus too much on getting the shot and can forget about the animals welfare.
That’s true, Paul! Fortunately, most photographers are pretty ethical, but we need to remind them that the key is not to alter any birds, natural behavior when trying to get a photograph.
Visited for the first time (from Wisconsin) this past weekend. Was bummed about the news of the Snowy and just missing out on it, but at least got to see my first Great Gray. Already planning my next visit. Loving the updates!
Ha! Okay. I need more video… They are so skittish that they are very hard to get video of. Just finished re-reading Bernd Heinrich’s Ravens in Winter… A classic!
I understand… But at least with winter finches we know that it’s all about food and they are fat and happy up in the boreal forest of Canada wear the cone and seed crop is really fantastic this year.
Thanks Sparky for another great video and all the insight you share. My husband and I are thinking of getting to Sax-Zim bog in December. Is that likely too early for good owl viewing?
Hi Sara, It can be good, but there’s no way to predict. We open the first Saturday of December. Not sure how far you are traveling, but the more trips you make the more you will see. I tell people not to expect much and then if they see anything they’ll be pleasantly surprised and happy!
The Great Grays are year-round residents, so you have a chance to see them any months of the year. But in winter they move out towards the road edges to hunt meadow voles.
Thank you so much for being so generous with your time, it was so much fun. Hope to be back sometime! - Asher & Ari.

So nice of you Gabe! I really appreciate your comments.
Thanks for another great video. It's so wonderful to see enthusiastic young birders!
I agree! They are certainly our future. I started birding when I was 14 and also had adult mentors.
BLACK-BACKED Woodpecker!!! SO beautiful, thank you for sharing SPARKY⚡⚡⚡ Cheers, DT 🤗🐦🦉
Thank you, DT! They are certainly one of my favorite woodpeckers… And so tolerant!
A photographer's dream bird?!😃@@SparkyStensaas
Hi Sparky! Yes, Can you please do a video on Ravens one day! I love them. Thank you!
Okay! Need more footage though. Love the corvids!

Interesting fact! And they don’t have much of a facial disc, so they obviously hunt mainly by sight

That’s so nice to hear Warbler Ridge! Thanks for subscribing. I think there’s over 100 videos in the back catalog… and more new ones coming!
Beautiful
Thank you Shree!
Super cool BB woodpecker slow mo. Also never realized how much your cropping! Now I want 8k😂.
Ha! And that was with a 2X attached. You need a “camera daddy“ like I have… Oh, wait…
Nice video! But tragic about that beautiful snowy owl.
It certainly was tragic! Trains and cars just don’t register for them.

So glad you got to see a Great Gray! They’ve been hard to come by in the second half of winter.
I always enjoy your videos. 😀
Thank you Aug!
Yes Please, Ravens!

Been a rough year for boreal birds in Ohio including Snowies. We didnt even have any Evening grosbeaks or Snowies this year which is kinda crazy.
I understand… But at least with winter finches we know that it’s all about food and they are fat and happy up in the boreal forest of Canada wear the cone and seed crop is really fantastic this year.
@@SparkyStensaas Thats true. I had no idea that the was an outbreak of bud worms either which could be a contributor. Maybe next year lol

@@SparkyStensaas thank you! I agree that going with low expectations helps! We'd be coming from Ontario, but probably staying for 4-5 days
