I didn't have the guts to mess with the gas lines so I left the range in place and put some plywood over the range and adjacent counters. I could kneel on the plywood and install the wall hanger and drill the holes in the cabinet above. Setting the microwave on the plywood and boosting it up to the hanger was the harder part, but I think it's the easiest way to do it without another set of hands.
That can be a PIA job. Plus most people don't realize that just because it's the same brand, the mounting changes because OTR microwave ovens are mostly made in China now in about 3 OEM factories and ALL major U.S. brands buy from those same factories. GE could have bought from Galanz back then but now may source from Midea or Haier. I would have fixed the old one. You'll be lucky to get 5 - 7 years out of any OTR micro made today, not 20. Mine did the same thing . . . I removed & disassembled the door then epoxied the crap out of the handle mounting area. It'll never come off again!
Fire dept called to rescue man stuck behind oven😂 We have 21 year old ge appliances, fridge died a couple years ago so now I have a stainless fridge and beige other appliances, dish washer will be a ÷>÷
Replacing an over the range microwave is so annoying. One of the worst home projects that one does themselves if they don't have cash to burn to hire someone. Looks good and solid. I know you're glad it's over!

I like the original support brackets. Much simpler to install.

LOL, i hope they last as long as you need them to. Older appliances were built to last. I’m not too confident in the new appliances. Fingers crossed 🤞

You are right, I'm glad it's done for sure! Fingers crossed this one lasts as long as the old one. :)
Install a long gas supply hose? Didja test microwave before reinstalling stove?
