Dragon's Dogma 2 is a sequel I never thought would exist. With such a strong attachment to the first entry, I couldn't imagine what Capcom on their biggest winning streak yet would do with this. What they gave us is what Dragon's Dogma was always supposed to be.

Yeah some issues but I'm playing it on Xbox series x so they are small issues nothing big and I like the game
You give a healing item as a reward for killing an Ogre? No ones using that pawn, lol. I give either 10k gold high rank mats. I give reward after releasing pawn dragon mats or rez stone.
Matty got the horny ads
@@abbywilliams9633everyone needs cash flow lol
Best thing I've seen in this game is having my character jumping from rooftop to rooftop, then slightly missing the edge on one. Only to have my pawn catch me and pull me up onto the roof, then telling me to be more careful. One of the coolest moments in gaming I've ever had.
Meanwhile I jump ledge to ledge down a cliff… pawns aren’t following …… then all of a sudden all 3 of them jump to their deaths in the exact wrong spot 😂
A pawn caught me when I feel off a dragon 😂
Really high also I definitely would have died 😅
Dying light would like to speak with you
Who’s going to tell him Mystic Spearhand is an Arisen only class and his head canon of outfitting his pawn like Bastila will never happen?

@MrMattyPlays Course correction, transform your current Arisen into Bastila. Definitely ways to do so. This is the way

@@MrMattyPlayslol your fan interaction and continued uploads has got me to subscribe. Also, you're praise for the series got me to try out this game and I love itttttt
Matty if you didnt know you can pause the game before you fully finish the dying animation and use a healing potion to get back up
I abuse the hell out of that. But then it gets super hard when your max HP decreases
I only found that out 30 hours in 💀
Mind blown lol
Don't even have to pause if you're quick enough snapping the potion/etc off the dpad
I’m buying the game in a couple weeks. This is very nice to know.
No joke: I’m 80 hours into this game and haven’t even reached Bhattal. Just been exploring the north region so much and leveling vocations. I’m fucking addicted and want moreeeee.
I wish I could do that. I hit Bhattal in around 20 hours and everything after that was me trying to find fun again. The combat is too easy and there's no real reason to explore because quests are terrible and loot is meaningless with the best stuff being in stores.

The enemy variety is somewhat disappointing. Each region should have more specific enemies. Those damn lizards pop up in too many locations.
Agreed at least their are variation of each enemy type. Rock, poison, lightning lizards and such
It's just because the world is so big. You can get to the later areas sooner where there is more variety
@@totallyalex2607yeah but you’re spending more time killing those enemies for hours 😂 it got boring tbh
Yea not huge amount of enemies which sucks
@@Dreggy990yea the Zelda curse. Just recolor enemies and call them "fire" or "ice" variants.
They should have added more variety to day and night.
A bit disappointed that they got rid of the equipment for the arms ,and foot and inner clothing and just turned it into two sets, and itsuno's reason is pretty flawed considering that so far I've seen a lot of pawns wearing the same sets. As cool as the armors are,the customization in this game is a downgreade. I hope they update this and the pawn rating system and photo mode, I miss the star ratings and message comment
Definitely need the layered armor sets back
It's a customization downgrade, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't appreciate how it simplifies how I got about enhancement.
I wouldn't even mind the reduction of equipment slots if we had more sets to choose from. Right now it's very limited though and there is a clear separation of tiers. It doesn't really matter what you use in the very late game because there's no super hard content anyways, but it's still disappointing.
Play as Warfarer and use any armor/robe, helmet/hat that your heart desires

Fun fact. The food cut scene are not graphics. They're actually physically food. It's like a little movie.
Thats what I was wondering.

One thing I love about the vocations system is that grinding every vocation is worth it because once you unlock a passive for a vocation, you unlock it for the other ones (iirc it was also like that in DD1).
When i finished a battle and one of my pawns held out her hand and my character dapped her up as he walked by, that's when i realized this would be infinitely better than DD1

Not on the 1000th time.
This game seems to have way more repeat lines than the first.
I'm not sure about that, but the lines definitely are more noticeable. Instead of throwaway one-liners, they repeat even back and forth dialogues about the simplest things.
“Materials, eh? I shan't deny, they have their uses.“
"Different combinations result in different creations.“
"We were overconfident in our abilities. Tis a painful reminder..."

Sometimes I wish I could just hear the old barks again, like "Wolves hunt in packs!" or "Their kind hates ice and fire both!" 😂

The game has some performance issues, but my god it's so fkin fun. I can't give a final score as I haven't beaten the game, but 40 hours in and I'm still having an absolute fkin blast. Highly recommend it especially if you liked the first one.

There are no advanced vocations that you can get from spending time with a vocation. Vocations come from doing quests for people.
The endgame is where they messed up. Big time. There is a moment in the game when you cross it all pretense of good story that was being established early on just vanish, and it becomes an abysmal mess of 'And then!!!' that don't tie anything up together.
Yeah you can tell they just bum rushed the story near the end to get it finished in time

Keep up the great work!
I recently started the end game content and I gotta say, I absolutely love this game and I’ve had a blast. The micro transactions have zero effect for anyone worried and there is already mods for the game that let you get unlimited of all the items they sell for real money so if you buy them you are just dumb. My ONLY gripes with the game are that the game is way too easy once you get over lvl 30, and the lack of skill slots (half as much as the first game) but mods can also fix both of those problems, I downloaded a difficulty mod that I tweaked to make the game more challenging to keep pace with my level.
Usually not a fan of cheating mods but the difficulty mod sounds interesting. 😊
Shame ps5 can't use mods
Have you played new game plus yet? I was hoping to see if they game would get a bit harder once you start ng+
@@platinumbproductions8108 from what i heard no difficulty bump. Either make it more difficult by self rules like no pawns or just main pawn. Or new game again. DD1 didnt get hard mode till expansion so they may be doing that again.
@@Dreggy990 ok thanks
Want to get some gamers opinions. I feel like this game is best if you slow play it, not mainlining the story. Treat days like days, equip before exploration, use resources.
yes because the main story ended abruptly for me and i didnt mainline at all. take ur time
Agreed. I hit the first few quests and wanted to progress quickly, seeing as I only get a few hours a week to play. However, I decided to slow it down and just enjoy a nice pace. Been having much more fun.
Let this one burn slowly for you.
@@lucasbolton3951 Exactly, it’s like we unlocked the heart of the game.
I don't understand how people see open world (not referring to you) and NOT explore. Instead, they beeline the story and obviously come out unsatisfied and calling the game short. Makes no sense and defeats the purpose whatsoever. I've always felt the message was clear in taking the game SLOW and immersing yourselves like the director intended. Likewise, power to the player and ultimately lies up to the consumer in what to do, but this is just my honest opinion.
Just got the true ending after 65 hours and I enjoyed every moment. Probably gonna jump into new game+
Dragon's Dogma 2 is good, but that's the problem it's just good. This should be called Dragon's Dogma re-make, cause the game is literally almost 1:1 as Dragon's Dogma 1, to the point it makes the very same mistakes. After 12 years, I really thought we gonna get more. Just look at the 12-year difference between software games. I like this game, but I want it to be so much more.
I was surprised that every fix and step-up that Dark Arisen and Dragon's Dogma Online did, is simply not in Dragon's Dogma 2, and after quick research, I found out director of Dragon's Dogma Expansion Dark Arisen, was not Hideaki Itsuno, creator of Dragon's Dogma but a Kento Kinoshita, he also was director the MMO game.
Man. It’s fucking Incredible
@@lionzcrown1702 that's not the point of my comment..
Wow, this is amazing.
Exactly maybe my expectations are the problem but this game is just not what I expected. This isn't DD2. This is DD1 remake
I agree I just finished the game and explored most of the map at around 43 hours and was kinda ready to just finish the game at around hour 35. I was hoping for more interesting quest lines. I think the game does exploration and combat well but I wanted more. I basically wanted more elements from Bethesda games like dialogue options and multiple quest lines but it wasn’t what I expected from the game. I just think it would’ve been cool to see
This game shines through the exploration. There are surprises at every turn in this game. I enjoy the company of pawns in this game. And how they act as quest guides. Rather than the marker to marker system that other games utilise. It’s already GOTY for me.
When I played dragons dogma 1, the pawns could not revive you. I don't know what you're thinking man
Yea they couldn't, you had to use a wakestone. You could always revive them with a tap but now that's a timed revive. Idk what he’s talking about.
@WVRLORD yea I know. Which I think is better. It should be timed. But kinda crazy that Matty didn't think more about it. Only the Arisen can revive, not pawns
Dude this guy watches aew lmao says all you need to know about why he is the way he is 😂

He mentions “intimate interactions” with the pawns but idk what he means by this, all they ever do is chirp the same dialogue lines
You can raise pawn affinity in a psuedo romance. Many people are unaware of this, but it affecrs their behaviour, dialogue, and one of the ending cutscenes.
this dude has so many basic misconceptions it sounds like he played for 10 hours, a “final verdict” video is crazy
love taking my time in games with stories and good exploration
My main pawn I always make in honor of my little brother. So we can play together. It's mental but it helps .
Thanks for the great content Matty I love this game it will probably be my game of the year, I’ve been missing that exploration as well!! God bless you and the Mrs.!!!
What I really like about DD2's world is the caves. Some of them are tucked away in a way that's really easy to overlook, and it's always interesting to stumble upon an entrance on a path you've traveled many times before. And you never know what to expect--it could be a short path leading to a treasure chest, or it could be a dungeon-sized network with multiple bosses (looking at you, Waterfall Cavern).
My only gripe is no multiple save slots and the enemies spawning in on your journey.
Both are entirely intentional. Though you can start a proper new game now.
Same i agree i wish they have multiple save slots
Assuming it’s for the same reason as DD1 it’s due to the pawn system. If everyone got let’s say 3 files, they also get 3 pawns uploaded to the server which bogs it down and means some pawns are “dead” and are no longer active. Also there’s little limitation on what you can trade other arising and reward for pawn quests, which could get abused heavily with multiple files.
I’d like multiple files too but there’s a real-world reason why they aren’t there. But New Game is available now, be careful since it’ll wipe your save.
@@solomon9655 Do "dead" pawns remain on the server? I'd always assumed that they'd just be replaced by whatever new pawn is made for that account. There's no way of getting back a pawn from an old save file without manipulating saves outside of the game, so it wouldn't make sense for it stay uploaded.
In my experience with the first game, if I stored a save file away, made a new game, played on in for 20 hours, then returned to the old save, the pawn would have gotten 0 interaction, which I took to mean that they didn't exist on the server for all that time.
@@65fireredI was thinking the same.. However you’d think it wouldn’t be much to ask for like 3 save slots at least.. That way you can have 3 different characters if you’d like at once
My experience was a 8.5/10, if they add DLC it will easily be a 11/10 best game I’ve ever played (if they do it right)
DDDA has sat comfortably on my top 10 games of all time for years. DD2 is missing core features that makes the original so special to me but still peak nonetheless
Just one big dungeon with some unique monsters, they couldn’t even do that.
Fair assessment
Oh they’ll add DLC, knowing capcom they probably had them make it already and chopped it out of the base game
Most L comment I have ever seen
So because they havent yet added seperate paid content you lowered your score? the amount of gamers conditioned by paid addition content is insane smh
.
Long time viewer, thank you for your honest review.
As for the performance, I have put 60 hours on PS5, and 12 hours on PC, and the game is so immersive that none of the frame dips have detracted from the experience for me at all. I have enjoyed nearly every moment of my time in this game, and the lies I keep seeing like "fast travel is a pay to win system" are really getting frustrating.
The combat is incredibly unique and engaging, requiring a bit of skill and timing, along with stamina management, and the world makes me feel like I'm in the middle of an adventure whenever I step out of a city. The sense of discovery is something I haven't felt since Elden Ring, and watching people run the thief class as a tank is giving me flashbacks to my WoW days.
I love this game, and my first impressions were not kind because of the misinformation around release, so I really appreciate this review.
sorry for the novel lol.
Hold on what’s this about pawns reviving you in the first game. That’s not a thing.
Yea that how misinformation starts to muddy up the conversation, but hopefully new players don’t think too much on that line
My GOTY for sure, but yeah pawns never revived you in dogma 1 my guy lol. its legit the same system.
Yeah idk what he's smoking lmao reviving is exactly the same.
I'll be honest, this game really doesn't 'wow' me like other open world RPG titles.
Appreciate the DA Origins music in the background, makes me feel at home :)
7:52 hey just something I do, when you go down you have some time before the death animation fully plays out and you can use health items even at 0 health, as long as you have the grey bar you can hold LB (Xbox) and press up too quick use a health item
I enjoy every second of this game.
Me sweating when you walked right past that beetle… It’s fun. I’m still a handful of hours in and poking and prodding here and there. It does take some getting used to and that jank is real, but it’s fun so far and definitely scratches that adventure itch.
Pro tip to get some robes. Level up Thief to max then switch to Warfarer. Boom. You get the skills of thief AND armor of a mage (or vice versa)
Love your videos Matty! Such a good rpg we got here
the action AND quests suprised me.. sooo good + Eldenring-like exploration

Loving this game so far. Might be the most fun I’ve had in a medieval/fantasy open-world since Skyrim. Just absolutely loving the exploration in this game, and still only in the first area.
I don't normally play games like this and I have been having a blast
I think the Title screen not having a 2 is an easter egg to old fans. Because we all kind of knew by instinct that this is just the first game realised and that is lowkey what we also wanted, and what Itsuno wanted. I don't know how to explain it but as a fan when I saw the Title screen I was not surprised, almost as if if I expected it
I also saw it as that and from the first game experience, that you’ll get a different ending if you start the cycle again
An absolute BANGER of a game!! Best thing out right now!! I’m absolutely in love with it. -I like to take my time
Hey Matty. Love your stuff.
I have it on xsx and are still waiting on the 1st patch to come. I have a question. What camera setting do you use? Distance, adjust etc..? Have a great day. Cheers from Denmark
I just want Art of metamorphosis to give access to your created arisen/pawns from the character creator demo. Instead have to make them again by scratch, thats a huge oversight.
I’m really enjoying this game and so are my buddies. The combat is 🔥
Loving your passion for this franchise! Really hope DD becomes a true mainline franchise for Capcom! Don’t wanna have to wait another 12 years for the next entry!

We have roses in our yard, I should go smell them, hey?
Too bad the devs didn't use AI to generate dialogue for the pawns. I'm sure they could have used AI for pawns to talk about things depending on the situation or just random conversation. This would have been more dynamic instead of just hearing the recorded lines repeated throughout the game.
Haven't been able to start playing until today due to the game going into a permanent crash on boot after I adjusted my graphics settings DOWN to the lowest and rebooting. Took far deeper digging into my PC and its fie system to get both the game and Steam to go back to factory default graphics settings.
Back up and running now and curious. Do you need to play online to get Rift Crystals? I set mine to offline only and want to keep it that way for the first playthrough if not permanently.
No you don't need to be online for rift crystals. They'll spawn in chests sometimes in decent amounts. Enemies drop them as well, It'll be slower going but still doable.

I picked up a quest to meet an elf over on the left side of the map. Thought "eh, let's go do this before we start the main missions". Hopped on an OX cart I was hoping would get me close. We got attacked by two trolls back to back along the way. After killing them I decided to proceed to the elf, which wasnt horrible. Did the mission, decided that "I'll probably make it back to something familiar if I go north". 5 hours later my party is lost, beaten, and near death. I'm very aware I'm undergeared but I'm fighting through, barely. Finally, I happen across the Arbor and get to take a breath. Phew. "You know what, I have a transport stone, I've earned it- *back to the city". I turn in the quest with the Elf and he tells me..."hey, meet me at the arbor for stuff".

I love this game so much, I just wish theres more enemy variety. Hopefully their future expansion adds many more
(Or if modders can add and replace a bunch of 3d models for enemies)
Also, I lowkey like the *single save* feature. It really makes me think about what I should do. I typically save scum and abuse it to get what I want. But now it feels like theres more at stake
The save system is refreshing, I've failed multiple quests & now have reason to replay :)
I'm down with one per character. You should be able to start a second playthrough/restart if you want to.
They had 12 years. Future expansions shouldn't even be a consideration at this point. They should have included those things in the game to begin with.
This passion Matty exhibits exemplifies what it means to be a gamer.
My main recommendation so far after ~30 hours of gameplay: Switch vocations somewhat often. Atm, I'm basically switching vocations as soon as I hit vocation lvl 6 (I think that's when you get all the augments), and it keeps the combat fresh. I've heard this game can get really boring pretty fast if you stay at one vocation too long.
Also yes, pause the game to heal. And if you run out of health pause before you hit the ground and you can use healing items to avoid dying.
Im 28 hours in and playing on PS5 with no performance issues I can recall. Im really enjoying it without even playing the first one.
Am I the only one who noticed the dragon age origins title music in the background at 12:50 lol? Love both that series and am enjoying dd 2 as well!
“You’re gonna have to fight for your life”
*laughs in Warrior*
I love Warrior so much - I cleave everything 10 miles away - it’s so satisfying
I believe the idea with the revive system is that only the Arisen has the power to bring pawns back to life. Pawns not in your party will disappear, and mortals in the world require a wakestone (yourself included, as you were a mortal). It makes the existence of the pawns more of a mystery to me. 🤔
To me if the Pawns and NPCs were on a closer level to the companions in BG3 and there were more variety in enemies DD2 would be a near-perfect game
I remember fighting a minatour and a minute in a griffin showed up so it was a three way battle in a small crevice shit was wild
My issue with this game is that it’s far too easy, and even in the endgame there’s not really anything that takes more than one try or can’t be beaten by mashing a skill. I hope they add a BBI type location or revamp the post-dragon setting at some point. Getting to level 40 whether it’s a cyclops or griffin or lesser dragon it’s just “oh ok time to turn off my brain for a minute” which I don’t remember the first game being like
This is my main complaint. After about level 20-30, I just steamrolled everything. The first few hours felt punishing, and the world felt dangerous. In DD:DA it took a lot more time and effort to body the game. Also ng+ doesn't scale, so ng+ will be even easier
The first game was exactly like that except for DLC stuff.
@@Mohgenstein Yep, and I only ever played it in hard mode after they added it & spent most of my time post-game and in BBI. That's why I said "I hope they add a BBI type location or revamp the post-dragon setting at some point."
@@SomeUnkindledAsh Idk I replayed 1 recently and my first Chimera fight I was already able to take health bars off at a time and wasn't even overleveled or minmaxing.
@BLeePrit that wasn't my experience at all. I played it a few months ago for the first time and I was constantly dying. I Died more to the bandits outside of the witchwood than I have in my whole dd2 playthrough.
On my second playthrough and there are still new things I’m finding and entertaining things happening to me. I was fighting a cyclops towards the beginning of the game and I happened to jump as he was doing a sweep attack with his club and I was YEETED like 3 miles down the road. I happened to land in such a way though that I somehow survived what should’ve been a fatal fall and had to walk my happy ass from nearly base camp area back to the boss 😂😂
I'll definitely pick this up once the framerate issues are patched or maybe on ps5 pro. I can tolerate 30fps but anything under that is unneceptable
exactly on how I feel
Playing on ps5 rn and it's been very smooth, the only misshap I've had was in the north it dropped to 20s while just walking around, went away pretty quick tho
They already put the patch out to give 30 fps. You can also turn off motion blur
On ps5
Was already patched a few days ago, with a 30 fps cap mode and more patches coming soon
The cooking cutscene looks so real because it is. It's actual video of lamb (I think) being seared over a fire.
Was also a huge fan of the first game and I think they knocked it out of the park with this reboot. Just have a few gripes: 1. It takes way too long to revive downed pawns. 2. The price of resting at an inn is rediculous compared to the first game. And 3. Where's my friggin
J-rock intro? Wtf Capcom?
I don’t remember your pawn ever being able to revive you in DD1. And I’ve played it extensively.
Gameplay is king the way the player interacts with a game is very important
Going from one town and crawling into the next beaten and bruised and heavy from loot is so gratifying. It's like beating an Elden boss. Im loving my time spent in game.
Something you can do if you really like an armor set from another class is you can go Warfarer and then use only a single vocation with it. Warfarer lets you use any armor set in the game so you can basically become a Mage in heavy armor if you want
But you don't get your vocation's mastery skills that way.
I’ll take a talkative Pawn over a talkative person in public lol
Great video Matty for a great game!
7:20 so... You said that in the first game you could be revived by your pawns when you "went down". That's not true. I recently played DD:DA for 120 hours and not once my pawns revived me. Just like this second game, if you don't have a wakestone = game over.
The surprise dragon or early chimera always gets me
A system that DD2 is making me think is what if you could import other players from your friends list as a pawn but that player levels up with you and they use the same gear they did in their play though. Not sure why I’m commenting this here but just a fun thought
Final veridict for a game he hasn't finished playing lol
Loving this game so far, fought a golem, chimera drops in for a double team went to rest at the campsite slept woke up rested with a griffin screaming in my ears…. Here we go again
I was lucky on PC because I built a new PC back in December. 13600k 7900xt 32Gb ram. It does dip below 60fps in cities sometimes but Very much playable for me.
Yeah built mine in September 7700x 7900XTX 32Gb ram. Biggest dips I’ve seen are middling 30s in the main city for 20 seconds, but for the most part the game is actually pretty stable in other villages, bahtaal, and the open world itself.
I don't mind the pawns talking, only thing, the last time I swaped the two of them, they didn't talk much, even during a fight.
Bro, we became the quest givers. That’s the ish I’m talking about!!!!!❤😂
DD2 did not offer enough content for me during the post-game to test my build against. Mobs became very easy for me post-game. An end-game dungeon or two would have saved the game a bit for me(Maybe DLC). DD1 had the Ur-Dragon for its end-game dungeon with added DLC (Bitterblack Isle). My rating is 7/10 Note: The score could have been 9/10 but the replayability suffers here due to how the NG+ works.
I never played the first game, but I freaking love this game man.
That explains why you like this game. It is steps backwards from the first.
Matty up here speaking to my heart!❤
I knew i was addicted to DD2 when i caught myself apologizing to Jamie( my main pawn) OUT LOUD in my damn living room🤣
What really hurt the perception of DD2 was having optional mtx. Since few played DD1, most new players' idea of how an open world game works collided with how the DD franchise actually functions. And having mtx just made those inherent aspects, like single save per character, DIY fast travel, etc. look really bad even tho those were already a part of DD1.
There are some major performance issues for sure, but even on series s I’m enjoying this game a lot. I keep sending wild clips to my fiance, and I know when it gets a big first patch I’m going to enjoy it even more. 🙏
This one is tough. I find my self playing for a few hours and having enough, then thinking about the game and coming back the next day. 60% of the time it works every time
Agreed. PS5 just works well with this one. Not the greatest end all be all framerate, but you get used to it and over time...forget about it.
It's fantastic. Next question.
God this dragon age music gets me
Man yesterday i climbed a griffin and during the fight he flew to his nest with me on his back, it was pretty badass, then he fought to the death.
I dont remember pawns being able to revive you in the first game. I died so many times last time I played (3 weeks ago), and none of my pawns attempted to revive me.
Loving it!! Nough said. ❤
If you didn't know, you can still play catch with live wild animals with pawns! They just need the simple inclination! They even improved on the joke from DD1😂😂😂
