When grease pencil came out the smoothing was terrible and nowhere near vector drawing programs. But I was confident the developers would get there. And now they are. Congrats to everyone who worked on this.
Even AutoDesk dosent have user centric channel to keep in touch.. Blender.. is going at another level Coz of this lovely community that the cube gave..🤘

The one thing you guys are missing now is a proper *Raster Drawing System* That is something I find very important, especially for rough drafting animations.

How is this set up. Running 2.82 alpha grease pencil Objects still seem world lit. So light objects are not interacting with Gp. What am I missing? Is there a world light that needs disabling?
I'm not sure if it's a NEW brush engine coming or improve to the old brush engine, because so far the drawing with the brush tool feel clunky... The video shows improvements in the right direction, but still can't say how it will "FEEL" when drawing, best example for a vector brush engine is Toon Boom Harmony (I'm using it for many years) I hope that grease pencil will have a similar brush engine, not just another illustration pencil tool based on: point-to-point to create curves because it feels really bad when drawing. I hope that it will feel good again so I can move on from Toon Boom Harmony to Grease Pencil. Keep up the good work! :)

Clip Studio's Raster brushes SURE are killer! almost good as TVPaint brushes all of these are MUCH better emulated and fells GREAT compare to the current Grease Pencil brush engine, so let's hope that the awesome Devs will start working on a NEW brush engine for Blender 2020 project instead of trying to improve the "Point-to-Point creates Curves" current brush engine! :)

There is no way I am going through the hassle of compiling under Windows, so I can’t wait for all these goodies to be merged into 2.83, I just might delay my next 2D animation project so I can use Blender instead of Moho!
May I ask what Blender build will ship with the updated light behaviour for greace pencil objects? (Sorry if you get this question frequently. I would really love to play around with that.) Anyway, great work! :)
It looks to be that way. Usually, if Evee can do it then cycles can do it, with a few more features, and a great more deal of accuracy. Otherwise, I'm wrong. Either way, happy animating and wish you the best of luck!

for some reason it doesn't work like this at the moment . the grease pencil object still shows in view port even without a light source (and yes "use lights" toggled) , so its difficult to achieve that dramatic lighting effect for now

usually theres a alpha testbranch floating about not sure where but i will seek it out going to have a nose around on blender artist suggest you do too someone will probably have a link for the download
@KAOS NATION that's for the offical release, you can already download 2.83 alpha but i don't think it has these improvements yet, we'll probably see them after 2.82 gets released like March or April.

Will grease pencil objects ever get shadows? It would really help for making 3d environments for (kind of) 2d animation

The light doesn't work on black strokes. Also notice, that you have to increase the Watt for your light source.
