The level of detail is amazing. From the MRE boxes, rucksacks, and fuel cans tied down to the vehicle. Brings back memories tying those things onto those Strykers

damn...i watched your dry brushing techniques and smiled...after 20 years absent your skill is spot on and just how i used to do it on miniatures....thank you for me still having the right knowledge even if i am 18 years out of practice...you give me hope that what i know is still relevant.....thank you brother....an old soldier given confidence for his first tank/afv/lav in nearly 2 decades......i mean that to...i am fighting a terminal slow degenerative problem that will never be fixed but i had to try again to do what i once loved...maybe i can still be half decent or at least respectable a job.....thank you....god bless us all...

I liked what you did with the Paint Variation. Just remember that each vehicle will weather and fade different from the next vehicle. Ale remember that each paint lot will vary in shade because of how fine the paint pigment is ground and also how much of the carrier is added. You did a great job. I also liked how you cut the steering apart to give it a different position. This adds to the model! :)

Jan. 2018---Outstanding build and thanks for showing it. In late 2016, started getting back into modeling after 15 years and of course, things have changed a lot since then. But I'm going for zombie/apocalypse dioramas. THE biggest problem I have with current kits is lack of interiors. Imagine buying an aircraft model and NO cockpit? And try finding interior photos of these vehicles.....they are very few. From what I understand, Tamiya has ONE Humvee for example that gives you the option of open doors....all other kits have closed doors and no spare tires. Would like to build one of these Stryker kits, but as abandoned and being overgrown with weeds, etc. Have survivors either searching for supplies or maybe using it as emergency shelter while zombies are attacking them.

Great Job !! I wasn't happy with my LAV lll and Leo with Mexas. so I stripped them down. I will use the Camo green, (love Vallejo paint) Might just stay with the camo green as the pics Ive seen the color doesn't seem dark at all.. GREAT JOB!!

If I might share mate what makes for perfect scale antenna for all of these cool 1/35 scale armor kits are guitar strings. Yes sir, I've been using guitar strings for antennas since I began building these kits in the very early 1970's and nothing works better for antenna is a nice cut length of a guitar string. Some music shops will sell them individually and some sell only sets and all you want are the two thinnest strings, #1E & #2A and if you must buy a set, always buy the cheapest sets you can find. The heavier strings do come in handy for other items but the first 2 strings are for antennas. I only know about these because I've been a guitar player a lot longer than I've been a modeler, lol. Great video & cool kits.
I love the idea you actually got "RUBBER" tires with that kit, where both of my cheap kits came with 2-piece plastic tires! I think mine are Testors that I got dirt cheap on eBay for the pair w/FREE s&h.

I really like the scuffing and scratch marks you achieved with dry brushing. Would you have a video where you demonstrate that?

Your Strykers look amazing! I guess Trumpeter just discontinued this particular FSV, I ordered one for about $22 USD which is a great price for it.

Very nicely done. I'm going through most of your videos before I tackle the milleneum falcon kit. A few questions if I may. How exactly did you do the mud effect on the tires. It looked superb but I didn't quite get your explanation. On the falcon, did you do any dry brushing, and would you have? Lastly how does it take you from start to finish on a typical piece. Can you show a video of all your models displayed?
Thanks! The tyre mud effect was just applying the Vallejo pigments mixed with paint and blobbed on with a brush. No I didn't do any dry brushing on the Falcon, I did most of the highlighting with the pre-shading and wash. It takes anything from a few days to 6 months to complete a model, and I've sold or given away some models so can't really show everything together. Hope that answers everything! :D
The paint on the stryker cant be chipped with a 5lb sledgehammer. I watched 2 guys beat the clay off of one with 15lb staking hammers. So go easy on the silver. CARC is very hard to chip. Mostly you should see shiny paint spots and scratches. The only silver will be rungs where they are beat up snd the paint is thin and at the top of the ramp but its touched up every time it scratches with rattle cans. A new sop was put in place a while back that required them to be cleaned off and mud removed before turn in. There is also a new replaceable bumper strip on new versions at the top of the ramp.

If I might ask, about how long does it take you to airbrush all the details and accessories? Painting all of those usually takes me twice as long as everything else. Again, great video sir, thank you!
+Alex Macomber Thanks Alex, I appreciate the feedback! Yeah painting all the details and accessories can take up a lot of time. For all the packs I just gave them a base coat then added a dark green wash and then dry brushed on a lighter colour. The result was a layered effect that looked like it took more time than it did!

Can't quite remember sorry. :p It was probably just a mix of various Vallejo browns.
The positioning of the FS3 is a bit off, our vehicle has the .50 cal at the 12 o clock and the FS3 to the 9 o'clock position while in travel lock.
What's the FS3? :p

I just prefer a buttoned down build. Sometimes I make exceptions to help show scale, like for the Tortoise. Also I really suck at figure painting. >.

Nice model, but one major issue I see, as a Civ Scout who has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan on these vehicles, is you have the baggage located and tied down directly over the rear air guard hatches. This would NEVER be done. Just simply move bags forward to mid section or even on the sides of the Stryker.Also, the paper containers for the Coke and Pepsi would immediately open up and fall off the vehicle the way you have them stowed on the sides (your bustle racks appear to be completely empty). There are a few other things, but no one would even pick up on it. Overall, nice build.

mate i tried to make the voyager pe bar armour for my trumpeter stryker. what a head ache it was. there was no way i could finish it

Well built kit, but with a couple errors. There are only a couple minor errors in your BUILD that I see: one is the presence of the crane. Yes, the crane with hand winch is part of the BII. It is not permanently affixed to the vehicle (it mounts into a little post-hole on the roof), and is not left mounted on the vehicle when it is not actively in use lifting the FS3 onto or off of the vehicle. In fact, I don't believe I ever once saw one of them used to put and FS3 or LRAS onto on down from the vehicle. They were just left in the conexes the entire deployment. When we (rarely) needed to pull the sensors off, we did it by hand. A second error comes in with the placement of the stowage. You have blocked both the ramp and troop door with where you have placed the "stay back 100 meters" sign. Crews avoid fouling their troop door, and even more carefully avoid fouling the ramp, because that's by far the fastest and easiest entrance/exit from the vehicle. Granted, that sign wouldn't keep the ramp from lowering... but the ramp would tear the sign right off the vehicle, and probably destroy it, the first time the ramp was lowered. Lastly, you have covered the rear air guard hatches at the rear of the roof with rucksacks. Those ruck sacks would be mounted on the roof in front of the air guard hatches, on that big bare patch of roof between the air guard hatches and gunner's cupola (an area you have left completely bare in this build). Troops ensure those air guard hatches are free, because a) they may need them for an emergency egress, and b) 99% of the time, there are people standing in those hatches, providing additional eyes and guns looking out for trouble.
There is one painting error: the handles at the upper corners of the FS3 sensor should be black. Really, they shouldn't be present, as the little lugs they mount to are ALSO used to mount the designator module on top of the FS3. The handles should be off, the bracket (also black) should be mounted across the top of the FS3, and the LLDR laser designator module may or may not be mounted onto the bracket above the FS3. However, that's by no means your fault; it looks like the model just didn't have the parts to do that, and it would have required cutting the FS3 carry handles off and scratchbuilding the LLDR bracket to correct it.

It's all good. Sometimes it can be quite hard to find good authoritative references to some of these vehicles, so there is a bit of creative license when it comes to building them. Regarding your alterations to make the wheels turned, the front set should be turned to a greater degree than the second set. They shouldnt be at the same angle.
On snoyhrt note, i agree trumpeter make good armor kits, some better than others. But their aircraft kits are terrible.
Im going to have to build one of these Strykers in the future, but i want the mortar variant.
Yeah you're right, although there was a bit of a limitation with the kit. I set the second row of wheels first to match a reference photo but the front row wouldn't go any further without the tyres digging into the chassis, should've done the front ones first. Next time... ;)

btw that recovery arm is never put up unless your changing a tire or hoisting gear. I never saw one at all but asked a friend who was a Cav officer he told me that usually they are stowed and he never took it out of the bag unless he was inventorying a new vehicle.
Strykers are the biggest waste of money the army has ever spent, I hate them so much. 5 years as a Stryker diver and gunner, and there is nothing I hate more then going to motorpool daily to work on them
