Thank you so much for this upload! Once again the internet proves to be the “great antidote to TV”. Whenever I listen to what Julian’s got to say, I feel so relieved that there are still people willing to give him a platform. The traditional media obviously won’t provide it and I’m kind of afraid that they will one day success in shutting him up. I never want to see that happen because to me it’s going to mark the end of free speech…
Free Assange, Manning & every other innocent person who has told the truth about War crimes. Stop wars, end corruption, stop poisoning planet earth! Peace & Love.
It is good for such a conventional world recognized institution to host Assange, for it is time, he is given the credit, he deserves. It is also warming for the UK to show their support for such a bright mind, and in doing so, to shed the rumours - which are usually spread on inconvenient figures - lending an ear and also encouraging a much needed and wanted public speech. In fact it is the case, I believe, that Mr Assange's lends renewed credibility to the Institution. Thank you. Thank you.
What worries me more is not the fact that governments and corporations are becoming increasingly more ruthless secretive and scheming, it's the fact that so many of the population have their perceptions tuned and also totally distracted into some hypnotic state
Pity we cant really hear what you are saying Julian, but those present at Oxford Union at that time heard your important message. That's what is important....
I would just like to express my utter support for Assange's work, and my utter disappointment with the movement in Oxford (and indeed elsewhere) that claims that the sexual assault charges levelled against him was sufficient reason to deny him a platform. Not only is the irony involved in denying a freedom of information activist a platform almost laughable, but it is almost impossibly naive to see the charges as anything short of political corruption. Above all, it just is not relevant.
well done Oxford union for giving Julian a platform. Shame about the mainstream media. can another video but with sound fixed be uploaded please. Julian, keep up the great work. You have many supporters including John Pilger, Glenn Greenwald etc etc.
I enjoyed this and it flowed well. Can't understand why some people would be looking around the room. HD full screen is almost like sitting at the table with..

21:00 Of course I will subscribe, although I reckon it will be hard to find a 'new weekly speaker' like THIS ONE. You can try a million weeks for all I care...
And as I'm sure you've seen me point out repeatedly in detail (need I go into it yet again?), the extradition-to-America conspiracy theory is so patently absurd that parents in Narnia could use it as a bedtime story for their kids.

He is making some important big picture points here and getting better at it - looking forward to his run for the Senate in Australia - also for the people stuck on the Julian debate and the odd agency watching - you are too late - mirror sites allowing anonmyous dumping of info is spreading - just the nature of teh internet gives access to greater detail - Assange is a harbringer, not a one off for those in power - your days are numbered
(cont'd)... a UK supreme court ruling. Fifth, the concept of him being extradited to the US from Sweden is so far into fantasyland that parents in Narnia could use it as a bedtime story for their children. It would be difficult to design a *more* difficult situation to extradite from than him being in Sweden, surrendered under an EAW, charged with a local crime, and the "extradition" being related to intelligence. There's a reason Assange called Sweden his "shield" and wanted to live there.
Thanks for your feedback. We are aware there are issues with the audio when playing on mobile devices and we are working on getting this fixed as quickly as possible. The audio can be heard on desktops or with headphones on laptops.
", all I know is that what he did IN TERMS OF FREEDOM OF INFORMATION is something I admire and support" Which has ABSOLUTELY NO BEARING on whether he's getting away with rape. "If a rapist cured cancer would you deny him a nobel prize" In general, yes, criminals DO lose accolades. Because doing something unrelated right doesn't excuse a wrong. Maybe *you* want to hand out "I'm-Awesome-Enough-That-I-Should-Be-Excused-For-Rape" cards, but that doesn't make it right.
If you genuinely believe that most rape charges go unreported because the victims fear that people will support their attacker's rights to perform actions entirely separate from happened to them, then fair enough. Fortunately, the world does not conform to what you believe. People are innocent until proven guilty, they have multifaceted lives, and emotions and speculation do not alter the facts. God save us if you ever get what you want. Nobody will be safe from your speculative justice.
ATTENTION VIEWERS: Because of a phasing problem between the left and right channels of the audio, you will hear very little if you listen to this in mono. If you use headphones or hook up a stereo, the sound will be fine. I have written to the organisers and asked them to fix this. Hopefully another version will appear soon.
Whether I like him or not is besides the point. I'm sure him and I probably would not get on as it happens, all I know is that what he did IN TERMS OF FREEDOM OF INFORMATION is something I admire and support and wish to hear more from him about. I think you're missing the fundamental point which is that the rape charges are not relevant. If a rapist cured cancer would you deny him a nobel prize for their scientific achievement? Perhaps, but I would not.

According to human rights and to our feelings of compassion - if we have any.
If he were not such a high profile and controversial figure, his hiding in the Ecuadorian embassy would indeed be suspicious, but as he is, it is both understandable and possible, as the Ecuadorian embassy is only protecting him on the grounds that they also believe he is at risk. In terms of reforming the way we view rape, something I'm sure we can all agree is much needed, condemning a potentially innocent man is hardly constructive. Just try to think more, and assume less.
First off, fugitives don't get to decide the terms of their captivity. Secondly, *five courts in two countries* have already ruled against him, two specifically on the strength of the evidence, and two supreme courts.
