I love watching your videos, two things stand out, firstly you have a great deal of passion and secondly you work with a lot of pride..........keep it up.
Cuprinol Shades is briilliant. Just painted my 20 year old oak front door in urban slate, 3 coats in one day and it looks fantastic, better than my neighbours new plastic door.
This is amazing. I remember making one of these on a 6 week Carpentry course a few years back and I've still got the Planter in my Garden today. Because I really enjoyed Carpentry I've recently started doing a Level 1 Diploma Carpentry Course in College and its going great. 😊
Brilliant job, I made and painted my potting bench and used Cuprinol shades 2 years now and it still looks great. I painted in doors and we couldn't smell any paint odour. So I think it would make a great bathroom paint.
What a beautifully pleasant 9mins of woodwork. Calm voice, no patronising, just good vibes all round. I wonder if a primer prior to assembly would be an overkill ? Oh and I've clikcked and ticked ! Big Sufi Love from up norf!
maybe a good idea to help protect the timber better. I have just finished putting up some cladding on my fake garage door and I painter all sides before fixing to give better protection - video out tomorrow!
Just found you, a really professional presentation, easy to follow and great projects. Thank you for your time and efforts in making these great videos, much appreciated and needless to say subscribed 😊👍
Another cracking video! Discovered your channel the other day and am now binge watching everything. Love the ‘changing rooms’ style intro and your delivery too - relaxed, not pompous know-it-all like others. Thanks for all the tips!
Thank you for the warning about those dangerous cucumbers. First thing I did was go into the fridge and throw mine out into the street! New subscriber from an ex-pat in the US. Love your content and style, can't wait to binge on the rest.
Well thank you very much. I spent many years as an Expat in the Middle and Far East watching UK channels - very strange you are now doing the same with me! Welcome aboard
for the plastic lining, best bet is pond liner from Screwfix - Huge roll for £15 odd and it'll do 4-5 planters. Doesn't fade, crack, uv stable and is designed to deal with constantly wet environments. Fab vid.
For painting may I recommend the Wagner Universal Sprayer W 690 FLEXiO. It comes with 2 spray heads ideal for big and small jobs. The sprayer would ensure every crack and crevice is filled with paint and multiple courses can be achieved as the paint dries really quickly.
Really great video mate. Unless my maths is wrong, the only slight gotcha from having no timber at all is the wastage. You need 6 x 2.4m timbers. The last timber you only use a small amount so you end up with about a 2.2m offcut.
Well presented vid. I am going to make a long trough version of this design using free pallet wood. I will brush or spray all cut parts completely with two coats of used engine oil ( any local garage free ) before assembly. Finish with undercoat then Cuprinol. Used engine oil alone is a nice finish, dries quick, odourless and plant friendly and no liner needed. Note sand or plane the top overlap edges to bevel them, looks better.
this is fantastic and exactly what i was looking for. I have just made a built in wardrobe and have a load of 3x2 left over (alot, lol, dont know how as made a plan but hey ho) and was thinking of making a planter but needed an idea. Upon searching RUclips yours was by far the best design! Glad you put the measurements in too and like that there is no wastage. thank you so much really helped us out. Browsed the rest of your channel quickly too, love it and have subscribed.
ohh, good to know the cuprinol shades works well - i'm making a log storage thinggy for firewood right now, out of leftover fence posts and pine 2x3s, and I was just looking at buying that paint. Will definitely be getting it now.
The planters look great, your guide is easy to follow and a pleasure to watch. I picked up a stack of cls timber today and will get to work on the planters this weekend. My only variation might be some handles below the top shelf. Seen the trellis, will be watching more, thanks.
Great video and project. Loved it. One suggestion I have is you you buy a plastic square planter of roughly the size you want then you can build the wooden planter around it (them) so in the end you just drop in a perfectly fitting plastic plant pot/liner which saves all the faffing with plastic membranes. Cheers
As others have said, I'm pretty much racing through all of your content at the moment and adding almost every video to my "must try making at some point" playlist! Need to sort my "workshop" (garage) out first but once that's done, I think this will be my first project!
As a new homeowner, and someone who dwells on the details, your content is incredibly useful. I watch a lot of RUclips guides, and only yours makes me feel I could actually do it. More please! :)
3 x 2 nor 2 x 3 always the larger dimension first unless you're in America for some strange reason. That's what I was taught as an apprentice many years ago Apart from that grammatical error as always a first class video
Great video, recently discovered your channel and am racing through your content. Love the tip about folding the membrane to conceal the batons. It’s just such a shame you chose to plant those conifers in them!
The fold over tip reminds me of my mother sewing. I'm terribly sorry about the light green conifers from B&Q but they are cheap and available. I'll try to be better in future videos!!!
It would be nice to add a picture of the planter i built using the idea and guidance from this video, but that does not seem to be an option on youtube comments. My wife wanted a planter to fill the gap between ourselves and our neighbours, modified your design to make a longer and slightly narrower planter. My wife is well pleased with the result. :).
I make hexagonal planters in the same way, but when I first started I couldn't work out how to hide the screws, dowel plugs, filler etc then the light bulb moment. I wish you made this video 15 years ago
I’m OCD and so would’ve painted the inside too before putting the plastic on as extra damp proofing. Not a criticism ( I love your channel ) it would’ve haunted me personally not to do it. I’m going to build some of these planters in various sizes. You inspire me and it’s costing me money 😂🤣😂 great video 👍
Thank you. As a tip (to help your OCD) paint the inside with Bitumen based black paint (Toolstation) and you will get an even better, long lasting result!
Never under estimate the cunning and savagery of common vegetables, especially cucumbers. Nasty little devils, cucumbers... great video, keep 'em coming mate. New subscriber here.
Thank you! No, I've been running construction sites for many years. I think it's the way my brain works - keep it simple and then even I can understand it!
It would be great to know the cost relating to these builds, although I know at the moment the cost of timber and suchlike is very unpredictable. That said what a beautiful build. Attractive, useful and built to last
Very nicely done and a wee bit unusual in the choice of timber and design. Certainly an easy build and even possible without any power tools. Quite expensive in materials mind you - despite your careful sizing to avoid waste. That said they look great once finished and with regular re-painting ought to last well. I am a recent sub and I am enjoying working my way back through your catalogue. Your videos are a good watch and the care you take with builds is impressive. All the best.
Hahah the cucumber won!!! Great clear video. Feels like my dad showing me how to diy...memories
Thank you

Thank you so much!
Cuprinol Shades is briilliant. Just painted my 20 year old oak front door in urban slate, 3 coats in one day and it looks fantastic, better than my neighbours new plastic door.
I'm sure it is. My next video later this week will be a door build and fnished in the same paint so you will be interested to see.
This is amazing. I remember making one of these on a 6 week Carpentry course a few years back and I've still got the Planter in my Garden today. Because I really enjoyed Carpentry I've recently started doing a Level 1 Diploma Carpentry Course in College and its going great. 😊
Nice one!
I love the way you explain everything clearly
Thank you
Hahahah about the screwdriver - mixer comment… smooth delivery pal! Definitely the best planter design and tutorial I’ve seen. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
What a wonderful project to do over a weekend, thank you 👍
You’re welcome 😊
I'm always impressed by your wide use of Hand clamps in many of your projects. Such a versatile tool and very under rated!
Brilliant job, I made and painted my potting bench and used Cuprinol shades 2 years now and it still looks great. I painted in doors and we couldn't smell any paint odour. So I think it would make a great bathroom paint.

These are a great idea! The only thing I lacked to make these was the imagination. Love the layering / off set screws.
Look fab, well done!
Nice work great example of good work takes time not something you see very often nowdays
After seeing the new trellis video, came back to watch this one again - weather coming up looks nice so will be giving it a go
Nice one Max!
Brilliant as always and I love your dry sense of humour. Looking forward to more videos. Thanks
British.. the best ..
Im from middle east.. history tells that you do things perfect
Great video, bought my first miter saw at the weekend and this was the first project I did. The out come was great 👍🏻.
Thanks for the idea 💡
Excellent!
Great video ...I added small casters to the bottom of mine, makes them easy to move around on a patio when i'm trying to clean it
That's a good idea! They are heavy once filled!
In April 2021, I am going to need my next Covid relief check to buy those 2x4's for the planters. But a good design. Nice and easy.
Getting more expensive by the day!
Thanks Stewart for sharing this. Just made my patio more aesthetic! Lovely.
Nice one Kenneth
You are one very likable guy....wished I had a friend or neighbor like you. Top work my friend 👍🥒
Thank you
Proper DIY like a cheap knot
Thanks for the great video we are now the proud owners of 2 made to measure planters, the wife is very happy
Excellent! I'm glad to have helped
Excellent! I'm glad to have helped
Beautiful! Perfectly done!
Just found you, a really professional presentation, easy to follow and great projects. Thank you for your time and efforts in making these great videos, much appreciated and needless to say subscribed 😊👍
Well thank you very much. These are the types of comments that help me get out there again and do the same tomorrow - thank you.
Nice and heavy duty planters there. I used that colour to paint the planters in my garden and used the Iris blue for my shed. Great stuff 👍
Very nice!
Great instruction video. A pleasure to watch and good humour too. Thank you
Another cracking video! Discovered your channel the other day and am now binge watching everything. Love the ‘changing rooms’ style intro and your delivery too - relaxed, not pompous know-it-all like others. Thanks for all the tips!
Awesome! Thank you for your kind words!
Thanks Stuart i made these today and they look great, easy build and should last.
These look so good and well thought out, Stuart

Sounds like a good deal but I can't find it on their website
I love this, If only wood wasnt so expensive right now.
I know
I know 😭
realy enjoyed the video, and also appreciate you providing the cutting list
Glad you liked it!
Really like that design of planter - thank you!
Glad you like it!
Very nice planter build. You explain things properly and you have attention to detail. 👍👍👍😊
Thank you

Thanks great content - right on time for the bank holiday weekend project!
Good luck!
I felt very brave today. Not only did I subscribe, I also liked your video! Bravery!!! Also, great content and thanks!
Welcome aboard! I only want the brave - you passed!
Expertly done Sir

Nicely done!
Might try this myself
Same paint for my shed. New sub. Wish people would avoid generic yt music. It's distracting from great content.
Brill as ever my friend 👍
Thank you
Price of wood at the moment i would have bolted them to the house lol
lol, brilliant
Too right
Brexit I’m in European imports everything’s going up
@@tracievans5019 UK prices are still cheaper than French though compare leroymoulin to homebase
@@tracievans5019 nowt to do with Brexit. It is deliberate to bleed us dry.

ohh, good to know the cuprinol shades works well - i'm making a log storage thinggy for firewood right now, out of leftover fence posts and pine 2x3s, and I was just looking at buying that paint. Will definitely be getting it now.
I've used a lot of it now - it's good

Nice job. I did pretty much the same thing, but a rectangular and with pallet wood.
Thanks
Dam cucumbers will get you each and every time.
Great video and project. Loved it. Thanks! Yes can do and would prob last a lot longer.
That was a brilliant tutorial. Thank you.
Thanks
Could put a groove underneath the top lip to prevent water run down at the side off the planter. Nice design 👌🏻
You could do
Well done from Atlanta, GA.
Thank you. Hello Atlanta!
as a professional tradesman! .. i love wathcing your videos mate (Y) keep up the good work mate and keep the content coming
Well thank you very much!

Great to hear you are enjoying them!
Looks awesome👍. I’m jealous of your workshop😁👏
It's taken many years to get one! Garage to workshop video part 1 published just now!
Great video thanks - any reason you didn’t paint (seal) the inside to prevent moisture attacking from inside the gap between liner and wood?
Great little project 👍
Thanks 👍
Great Video with a well thought of solution all round. Thanks
Thank you
As a new homeowner, and someone who dwells on the details, your content is incredibly useful. I watch a lot of RUclips guides, and only yours makes me feel I could actually do it.

Thank you indeed. I try to make things clear so even I can understand them! Lots more of both big and small stuff coming - stay tuned!

I like Thanksgiving dinner complete with fixens 😂😂😂
Wow amazing they look great and you made it look easy I’m going to have a go at making them thank you 🙏
Have fun!

Awesome. Just wondered what I can do with my 2x3 (8ft each). I got 8 left so will make some planters.
Perfect!
Nice neat work. Really impressed.
Thanks

Exactly. Most people just don't understand!
Really enjoyed that. Subbed and will be making some of these!

Brilliant. Any chance you were a teacher or trainer of some sort , very detailed explanation in short and simple words.
Proper indeed.

Great vid.
Nice, straight forward design. Well explained. Thanks
Thank you
Excellent video
Thank you
Well done, and your design is exceptional! I'll be avoiding all future encounters with cucumbers per your caveat...
Thank you
Hi. That look brilliant. Nice job. Will have ago at making them myself. Cheers👍
Give it a go!
I’m making these at the weekend for a mate of mine who stumbled across your channel 👍🏼 first we need a bank loan what with the cost of C16 in the UK 😂
Yes, amazing how things have changed so quickly
These are awesome
Thank you
Nice job, well done
Thanks!
Great easy to watch video and content.
Thank you
3am A good watch 👍😀👍
Great video
Thank you
I now know what I’m doing tomorrow
Good luck!
A proper bit of kit.
Just came across your channel. Great content 👍👍
Thank you
My missus will want ten of these 🙄🤣🤣 great video!
That will keep you busy!
Nice job
Thanks!
It would be great to know the cost relating to these builds, although I know at the moment the cost of timber and suchlike is very unpredictable. That said what a beautiful build. Attractive, useful and built to last

Great informative video. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Why not treated timber?

Thank you. Not the cheapest timber but I must say you do end up with a solid product! I didn't want something lightweight and looking cheap.
Noticed your using Leyland Trade Paint, I live about 5 miles from the factory in Leyland, and that’s where my parents live!
Cool
Great job!!!
Thank you
Great job. 💪
Thank you
