- This is another Kirk Whalum song I fell in love with and couldn't resist covering. The original was done on Tenor but I only play alto and soprano. (update - I play tenor now :) Maybe I should redo this on Tenor - let me know in the comments
anyway, It's called 'Waltz for David'. Enjoy

I've put it in the video for you at 21 sec - thanks for the comment!
Hi Mark - if you watch to the very end you'll see exactly what processing I have on the sax - remember, what you are hearing at the end is the audio from the camera - if you were to hear the unprocessed audio from the actual sax mic I used it would be a lot closer to the final sound. The camera's mic is clearly far away from the sax - whereas the sax mic is pointing pretty much directly at the sax somewhere between the bell and the keys stack. hope this helps?
@bmxbob808 To avoid phasing - try to pan your different sax takes away from each other enough to get rid of it. If you can re record the doubles I would suggest changing position in the room and also change the mic position. The phasing is caused by the doubles sounding to much like the existing track - hope this helps!
Brendan Ross i would like to buy your backing track, it is possible?
I'd be interested in the tracks too. Even that first video you did "For You" - tracks please.

Hi Brendan, my name is Rômulo, from Brasil, i'm guitar player (13 years age), but loved the sax sound!!! Very good his sound...congratulations.
@HenryKorol thanks for the comment. Yeah, i made the track :-)
Absolutely fantastic! Track is amazing and so is the sound. Brill.
Absolutely Fantastic!
It sounds so good I thought it was Kirk himself at the beginning!
Great sound, great rendition of a wonderful song, thanks for sharing!
I heard this again, such a nice job! Awesome tone!
your sound is really cool.
Thanks Bren for sharing this.
VERY VERY NICE MY FRIEND, GOOD SOUND.
Awesome sound, so warmer!! congratulations!
I don't see a size on the lig.. but when i bought it I was playing the beechler metal. If I remember correctly when you order you can enter what mpiece you are using somewhere to get the correct size... hope this helps? bought it online... maybe at wwbw.com ? not sure.....
you have a wonderful sound ! so soft and easy ! congrats !
Sounds terrific!
Very nice sound
i bought the lebayle studio mouthpiece for watching this video. Very nice mouthpiece, very smooth
I use an app called 'touch OSC' to control logic from the ipad - works brilliantly
Great sax playing, super tone! Thumbs up, subscribed.
Sounds good on alto
love this songs...
Awesome man. 👏
This is truly superb!
Sounds good Brendan
Good job Brendan! Great sound on that Yamaha Custom. That is a great sax, proves that the custom ex and 82zii have very little differences other than the Custom has a slight darker sound! Good job bro!! Keep up the good work!!
um.... it's at 2:58.....
I played a lebayle jazz mouthpiece on alto for awhile... But I've gone back to ebonite. I have a lebayle jazz 9 for soprano. Plays great.
Wow!!
Well played, great sound
If you are sounding harsh I would recommend loosening your embouchure - an supporting more from the diaphragm, you may be biting too much? Try to copy recordings of players who's sound you like while playing along with them... with time you'll get there
muy bueno!!!!!
thanks, I made the backing track - see my John Mayer video as an example....
I have exactly the same setup, but I can't sound like this 😔. Beautiful sound dude! Cheers! 🇦🇷❤️🎷
Keep trying and working at it. Practice long notes!
@@BrendanRoss thanks! Good Vibes!
I use vandoren java to but I use a vandorn v16 MP
You Rock Man!
BBB should do this Track!!
sweet sound man.. :)
It would make a great tutorial how to go from the pure original sax sound , as shown at the end, to the sound on the recording.
i added at my favorites videos
Very good playing. Like your sound and feeling playing that wonderful Song. We need that right now
Thanks for making that cool playback.

@@BrendanRoss Wow! that's great! thanks a lot and really appreciate it! ♥️🎷
When is your next recording, Bro?
Thanks mate, Had contemplated taking the plunge on the Labayle today but glad I got your message before I did :)
Just one quick question re inserts on this recording ( which I love by the way) The logic and wave inserts are a little blurred at the end. Is the Delay set to zero? Would be great to have a clear snapshot of that screenshot or some way of being able to replicate those subtle effects. Great work!!
Amazing sound! You are one of the reasons I recently purchased this mouthpiece. However, the mouthpiece has been back order for the past month. I was wondering whether you knew if the mouthpiece is still in circulation? Also, would you happen to know if the the 8* facing is similar? I appreciate it.
sorry - i don't know the 8*...
Brendan Ross New account. But my 8 came in today and I am loving it! However, not of my ligatures fit it at all and the mouthpiece did not come with one. I am just using rubber bands right now so I could just listen to it but of course I want a real ligature. What would you recommend?
Do you do your own play alongs? Where I can find Waltz for David's play along for saxophone? Thank you for the beautiful recording of Kirk Whalum's song..

@@BrendanRoss I got your message two years later. :-( sorry about it.

Wonderful music! Come to Grooveshark too.You won`t regert it!
Hi Brendan, could you tell me if you double or triple your sax recording, I mean you recorder only one time and you double or triple the same recording?? I can not see very well your screen of your software. You play really good. Best regards.
Hi Esteban - I did do some doubling on this track at 2:05 -2:19 I did it with a plugin...I was lazy...! and again from 2:55-3:15 but this time I did it with a plugin as well as real overdubs - It's just about making it bigger - obviously there are some harmony / background parts too. Thanks for the comments man!
Did you prepare the backing track yourself or is there a place where one could obtain one? It sounds really, really good.
The backing tracks are available on my web site
Hey man, sounds awesome... what mic are you using on this video?
What is the name of this song?
Please help, I need help on sax effects and eq and getting rid of phasing when I double. Any suggestions??
I love your sound !! What software use ?
Hi Brendan, I'm contemplating a Beechler but notice you've moved from Beechler to Lebayle. Was there any particular reason for this? I have to take a blind punt as I can only get Bechler from USA. I can however get the Lebayle in UK but a 6 hour round trip. Not sure which way to go. Great informative video :)
Hi Paul - I'm back on the beechler... I like both but the beechler feels a bit more like 'home' I also had to buy most of my mouthpieces 'blind'. A hell of a gamble with import duties etc.... good luck
bro could you tell me what you think of the durga mouthpiece
Great sound Brendon. Which Wave plugins are you using? Are the Logic effects not good enough by themselves? I'm just building a new setup around Logic
thanks mate. If you look right at the end of the video there you can see all the plugs I used on the sax - Logic has excellent plugins but I always experiment with different ones until I get the result I'm looking for for that specific song....In this case I used the waves renaissance compressor and the api 550B (EQ)
What was the reason why you chose the #2 reeds instead of #2.5? Is it because of the mouthpiece? Smaller reed easier to blow through the mouthpiece? It does sound nice though.
hi birdy808 - It could have been many reasons -(it was a long time ago) - It might have been all I had left ;) It might have been because I like the sound of it through the mic?! I might have been a bit 'out of practice' or unfit at the time?. It actually sounds a bit soft to my ear as I hear it now... I'm on #2.5's again now for as long as I remember
Hi Brendan, I've managed to get a better view of the plugins at the end of the video. Can you explain what's happening with the delay settings please?
hey Paul. I'm not at my production computer now so can't go into the project but it looks like I had the delay on a bus (that's why the mix is 100% wet). That way i would have probably have automated the the amount of delay for different sections of the song. The feedback and cross-feed are both at 0. (which doesn't necessarily mean there is no feedback - it's just the lowest setting for that patch which incidentally is the default patch. The 'groove' settings I put differently to create a bit of 'rub' so they stand out from each other...and finally the cutoff I just back off enough so the delay isn't too bright to get in the way of the dry signal..hope this helps??
Brendan Ross Thanks Brendan, I will definitely be experimenting with that.. One final question about the track. Have you used one of the Logic preset Mastering settings on the output channel? If not what do you suggest. By the way, I ordered my Beechler today so fingers crossed that `i get on with it when it arrives :) Thanks mate
Would love to see a tutorial that explains this in details.
Nice sound! I like so much... Can you tell me what mic are u using? And what reverb on the software?.... thanks a lot
you can see the mic info at 3:02 - studio projects C1 - you can see the reverb and delay info at 4:55
unclear what software is used, could you please tell in detail how to include those plugins. Thanks
hey dude where did you get the backing, that was amazing cover, really good.

Brendan Ross Did the page move? Great playing!
Did you try the lebayle before you bought it ie in a shop or did you order it on line? I'm wanting to know the difference between the two... The studio chamber and the jazz chamber. Let me know if you played both :)
hi Chris... long time bro. I took a chance and bought it online. I'm not playing it right now so if you want you are welcome to try mine - I'm back from tour on the 13 of March... let me know. be good to catch up too
Wow, yes please! Do you mean 13th of May? Or March next year? What are you playing at the moment?
sorry, yes 13 May... (",)... I've just bought a Theo Wanne Durga about 10 days ago... loving it so far...
Hey buddy, can I still find that backing track for Waltz for David nowadays?
Hi Julio. Yes it’s here: www.brendanross.co.za 👌🏼
Can you please tell me where did you get the backing, that was great.
I make my own tracks
nextleveltracks.wixsite.com/tracks/music
Brendan I couldn't make out what plug inns did you loose in logic can you tell me plz thanks
logics Averb and stereo delay and EQ. I always play around with compressors and different eq's as every song calls for something different - good luck
what a Sound ! that's so Great what's the Audio interface do you use ? :) thx
i saw a RME fireface 400 i never use it with MAC i work on pc do you have any problems with OS ? thx :)
the fireface works fine - make sure to visit the web site and get the latest drivers etc...
Thank you so much brendan !

And this was way back on Logic 9 (or earlier)
@@BrendanRoss thanks a lot boss. Great show!

where i can by this backing track?

Just curious, did you buy this from WWBW? If so, did it come with a ligature? I know in this video you're using an Oleg, but in all of the pictures I've seen on WWBW and the Lebayle site, it has a different ligature.
hi #MrSaxmanJones - Yeah the Lebayle comes with it's own ligature. I tend to change ligatures if I'm not finding the sound / vibe I'm after with the reeds I have at hand. Sometimes it can make quite a difference - there's nothing wrong with the one that comes with the mouthpiece though, I've been playing on it a lot recently
Hi Brendan, Which version of neck are you using on the 875EX?
Hi Nigel - It's the G1 neck
Brendan Ross I hear that the intonation in the upper register is difficult for a new be, is this correct?
Nigel West
yeah, it can take a bit of time to tame the upper register
Hey Brendan very nice track can you tell me what effects you have used on the sax as Im doing some recording and could do with some tips. Thanks Rob. PS my software is Logic 8
Hi Rob - I always try out a load of different reverb patches and see what works for the song. I like big halls and plate reverbs. I don't have a specific favorite though... looks like on this track I used logics Averb on the default patch also with a bit of delay (usually very little)... put the video at hi resolution then you can see at 4:50 what I used... good luck
mouthpice?
I believe that was the Lebayle - it was a long time ago ! Its an S 8
@@BrendanRoss hahaha I hope you want to make a giveaway and as a gift is the mouthpice,..
You never know 😜. I don’t think too many would love to have a used mouthpiece...!? 🤤😂
hello friend, your great video
you could share your track with me?
I would appreciate
Greetings!
