We can have unity with the Biblical teachings. Anything that contradicts the Bible is wrong, and it doesn't make the Bible less or just tradition. Do you really think that Latin heretics will repent and confess Orthodox faith.? Union of Orthodox with any heretical religious group would have been equal to the defiling of the Lord's Bride that ought to be w/o blemish.
As someone who was raised a Catholic, and has since converted to Orthodoxy, this made me smile from ear to ear. I truly beg everybody to pray to the Lord, and ask the intercessions of the Most Holy Theotokos, and the Forerunner for a true, genuine Union of both Churches. Christ is under attack, and the enemy is going against everyone who follows Him, unity is PARAMOUNT if we wish to survive this onslaught, as we as Christians will ALWAYS have the support from Christ. May God bless, and have mercy on all who read this, and to those who need Christ Amen! ☦️
As a Catholic I agree, there is much that unites us. The Gates of Hell, as Christ tells us will not prevail against the Church. To me this means that the Church is NOT defensive but offensive. We must be bold in the normalcy of Christ’s doctrine. Not to intermingle with what the world says, as this then acknowledges what secularism is. St Peter writes, We become the Royal Priesthood bc we are followers of Christ. We need, God help us, to live as He would want us to.
I believe it would be a stain on history for Christ to return to earth and catch the two halves of his church still separated. We should be striving to put our pride aside and diligently be working to heal old wounds. What a joy it would be for him to return and catch us either reunited or at least working patiently towards that goal.
When you mix good wine with the poisoned one, do you get more good wine or you get more poisoned one.? That is how unity of Orthodox Church with the Latin heretics would look like .
I’ve been praying every day for the Catholic Church and Orthodox Church to come together for the good of humanity. I look forward to the day we can unite in the spirit of Christ!
I agree. The Church is already one, Catholics and Orthodox don't have to "reunite". Catholics just need to go back their old and original ways ; the Orthodox way. But Official Orthodox is going the same way the Catholics have over the years, the Truth is in neither of them

Orthodoxy is not about the East. Rome was orthodox during the first millennium and sometimes saved the orthodox faith from errors who arose in the East such as iconoclasm or the temptation to create an universal bishop. Unfortunately Rome rejected orthodoxy and reformed the faith with the Gregorian Reformation of the 11th century, having birth to the Pontifical monarchy. Now that monarchy is collapsing. I hope and pray this will end up with Rome returning to ortodoxxy rather than making even more concession to the world in order to save a little political influence. IC XC NI KA Kyrie eleison ☦️

The Catholic Church's authority comes from Jesus Christ Himself who gave Peter alone the Keys. Jesus told him to " feed My sheep feed My lambs"@@joeycsk8305. Where Peter is , (pope), there is Jesus Christ.
That's what I would like to ask you, the catholics would like to turn back to the first orthodox church ? In your opinion, how peactically this will be possible to unite the churches ?
@@joeycsk8305The Catholic Church will not do that, because the Orthodox churches right now are excommunicating each other because they can't solve the problem of authority even among themselves (Constantinople, Russia). For reunion the Catholic Church will accept probably to not exert too much authority on the Orthodox churches, but it will in principle be able to if the need is there. And this is very important because Orthodox churches like I mentioned cannot solve authority problems on their own.
We as Christians should be grateful we live in an age we have the ability where we can easily access these type of discussions in the comfort of our own home at any given time in the day we choose, and that we live in a world in which the Lord can have such an effect. Glory to God!

I am Catholic and I love Fr. Josiah and I appreciate that he is always trying to speak Truth. Even when he talks about where he believes the Catholic Church errs, I know his heart is to share Truth. To me any true kind of ecumenism is one where we speak frankly about what we believe and where we differ with the goal of understanding each other as a first step. None of us wants to compromise for the sake of unity but the Holy Spirit can lead us to see where the Truth is and move there together.

My words are inadequate to express how much this conversation encouraged me! Thank you so much. I began praying for the unity of the church back when I was a Protestant and part of what is referred to as the “prayer movement”. God used those prayers, and much more, to bring me into the Byzantine Catholic Church. Now when I pray for that unity, I have a much deeper understanding and appreciation of what the Church truly is and what unity means. My heart is even more deeply broken over the disunity, and I long all the more for it to be healed for our sakes but all the more for the glory of God. This conversation was truly beautiful. Thank you again.
You jumped from one heresy to another.... achieving what.? Nothing. Are you going to attend pride parade at Vatican on Sep 5th as old fart you are licking shoes of approved it several days ago.?
Let's hold to the Biblical teachings as more important than the religion teachings or anyone opinions weather they are Pastor, Priest, smart person etc. If we really want to be noble like how Paul describes the Berean Jews, then let's examine the Bible and check weather people says corresponds to the word of God. Many will sound like correct, many will be deceived, but we have the guide, which is the Bible. Acts 17:11 ~ "11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so." Timothy 3:16-17 ~ "16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." Correction, I'm not attacking anyone here, I'm just saying that we should really affirm to the word of God (Bible), not to any man teachings that seems like to be word of God. We have ESV and NASB, and these bible translation are word by word. KJV, NIV etc. have errors when it comes to translation. Actually, we don't have perfect translation, but let's put our faith to Jesus that He will guide us to the TRUTH, so we will not be swayed by any wrong teachings.
@@jonathanjundarino2985 The bible (st Paul) tells us to hold to the teachings handed down both written and oral (the traditions) 2 thessalonians 2:15 , the bible also tells us the Church is the pillar and foundation of truth (1 Timothy 3;15) The bible tells us that Christ promises the Church will be lead into ALL TRUTH by the Spirit (somewhere in Gospel of John) are you telling me the Spirit failed or that it took the spirit 1500 years to guide us into said truth? The bible teaches that the spirit will raise up men of good reputation to be overseers (basically the same word as Bishop) did the spirit fail in the early Church to do so? if not where are those men who hold to what you believe in the second , third , forth and on century? can you give me any evidence?
Most importantly for our Orthodox friends, many Eastern fathers taught the Filioque as well. For example, we have Didymus the Blind (The Holy Spirit, 37; A.D. 380). He is an Eastern father and was head of the famous catechetical school of Alexandria. He was blind from the age of four and absolutely brilliant. He was one of St. Jerome’s teachers; in fact, Jerome accused St. Ambrose of plagiarism because he used Didymus’s work so extensively in his own work “On the Holy Spirit,” wherein Ambrose teaches the filioque as well. Could this be a case of an ancient Eastern father teaching a Western father the theology of the filioque? Perhaps. Read the clear words of Didymus: “Of mine he shall receive” [quoting John 16:15]. Just as we have understood discussions, therefore, about the incorporeal natures, so too it is now to be recognized that the Holy Spirit receives from the Son that which He was of His own nature, and not as one substance giving and another receiving, but as signifying one substance. So too the Son is said to receive from the Father the very things given Him by the Father, nor has the Holy Spirit any other substance than that given Him by the Son. We also have St. Epiphanius of Salamis (The Man Well-Anchored, 8; 75; A.D. 374). He is another Eastern Father who taught the theology of the filioque. St. Jerome called him a “pentaglot” because of his thorough knowledge of Greek, Hebrew, Syriac, Coptic, and Latin. He was bishop of modern Salamis, then Cyprus at Constantia. For the Only-begotten Himself calls [the Holy Spirit] “the Spirit of the Father,” and says of Him that “He proceeds from the Father,” and “will receive of mine,” so that He is reckoned as not being foreign to the Father nor to the Son, but is of their same substance, of the same Godhead; He is Spirit divine . . . of God, and He is God. For He is Spirit of God, Spirit of the Father, and Spirit of the Son, not by some kind of synthesis, like soul and body in us, but in the midst of Father and Son, of the Father and of the Son, a third by appellation. St. Cyril of Alexandria (Treasury of the Holy and Consubstantial Trinity, thesis 34; A.D. 425), another Eastern Father, says perhaps even more plainly: Since the Holy Spirit when He is in us effects our being conformed to God, and He actually proceeds from Father and Son, it is abundantly clear that he is of the divine essence, in it of essence and proceeding from it. There are many more fathers I could cite, but my conclusion here should be apparent: From an historical perspective, a “rigid” Orthodox position is untenable Proof.

This touched me deeply even as a Protestant I can not find any thing to oppose in this. I was moved to tears at times of joy to hear these topics. The great schisms of the all the churches will only allow for more sin in the world as we continue to divide Christ bride and diminish her influence in the world. Fr. Trenham failed to mention that divorce is permitted in the OrthodoxChurch. I don’t know much about the process. The East doesn't share the RC view on this. Stuff happens in life. Abuse.
May God bless, and have mercy on all who read this, and to those who need Christ
Amen!

The folks in Rome need to take note, this is how the “dialogue” you’re always yammering about is done. As a cradle Catholic I pray that both sides of the apostolic Church are again united. God bless Father Josiah, he is a holy man.
You know praying is not enough, the catholic church needs to give up its authority and get back to the old traditions, which i guess is impossible.
Be more respectful, the Ecumenical spirit originated in Rome and we were taught by Rome, Rome has no notes to take we must be humble.

To me any true kind of ecumenism is one where we speak frankly about what we believe and where we differ with the goal of understanding each other as a first step.
None of us wants to compromise for the sake of unity but the Holy Spirit can lead us to see where the Truth is and move there together.
Orthodox Saints called Ecumenism - a mother of all heresies.
Compromise with truth is a sin, that is why we cannot achieve unity except unity in truth

Acts 17:11 ~ "11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so."
Timothy 3:16-17 ~
"16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
Correction, I'm not attacking anyone here, I'm just saying that we should really affirm to the word of God (Bible), not to any man teachings that seems like to be word of God.

Perhaps. Read the clear words of Didymus:
“Of mine he shall receive” [quoting John 16:15].
425), another Eastern Father, says perhaps even more plainly:
Since the Holy Spirit when He is in us effects our being conformed to God, and He actually proceeds from Father and Son, it is abundantly clear that he is of the divine essence, in it of essence and proceeding from it.
There are many more fathers I could cite, but my conclusion here should be apparent: From an historical perspective, a “rigid” Orthodox position is untenable
Proof.

This touched me deeply even as a Protestant I can not find any thing to oppose in this. I was moved to tears at times of joy to hear these topics. The great schisms of the all the churches will only allow for more sin in the world as we continue to divide Christ bride and diminish her influence in the world. Very glad to hear a dialogue like this. I'm an inquirer into Orthodoxy (I'd consider myself former Protestant) and Fr. Trenham (I've attended a service in Riverside) and Truenbach really helped with my journey.
If you're a Protestant on the fence for this matter, my best tip is to intentionally/ forcefully remove the *mindset* that you likely think about Catholicism towards Orthodoxy because there are great differences. Reading history about the church while reading the NT simultaneously; things became abundantly clear.
Can I ask why you feel more swayed towards the Orthodox Church rather than the Catholic Church?
@hunterburney1257 because he is still has bigotry against Catholics from his Prot past. It's like that a lot with western Orthodox converts who often have dozens of CC around where they live but no EO churches.

What to do with the pope, though
Christ's One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church "is" united. Only in ONE faith that is preserved in Orthodox Church. Repent and come home to Orthodoxy.
@@johnnyd2383quit being a schismatic and submit to Rome.
This is amazing. This priest is hardcore ortho. This is amazing. 😮
Beautiful discussion! God bless you, Alex
Hey Voice of Reason, as someone who’s interested in Byzantine Catholicism would you think about doing a video maybe on how eastern theology is embraced by the Byzantine Catholic church while also being in communion with Rome and Catholic dogma (how the beatific vision is held simultaneously with the essence and energy distinction for example).
Thank you for all you do!
You can't hold EED and ADS without a huge amount of cognitive dissonance because they are contradictory. Roman Catholicism is FULL of doctrinal contradiction.
Rome doesn't care about weather a church has different theology from them they only care about numbers. its a fact
Yes that’s a topic I’m also very interested in .
Byzantine Catholics are best FAKES you can find amongst all heretical religious groups.
The essence energy distinction of Palamas is nonsensical
This was great, I saw the hour timestamp and thought wow that’s a long one. By the time it was over I felt like it just started! If you can do this again that would be amazing. God bless the both of you!
Great Video. Glory to Jesus Christ!☦
Amazing video! God bless you guys ✝️☦️
A hug for our orthodox brethrens in Christ. May peace be with all of you, Amen! 🤗 ❤✝️
Amazing conversation between you too. What a blessing to see an honest and fruitful conversation between an Orthodox and a Catholic rather than the arguing we so often see between those who have differences.
Rc here , lord please unite our churches 🙏
Any alleged "union" of Orthodox with any heretical religious group would have been equal to the defiling of the Lord's Bride that ought to be w/o blemish. If Latin heretics repent and confess Orthodox faith, then we can talk about union. Any other way would inevitably spilt Orthodox from newly surfaced Uniates.
We NEED to unite with our Orthodox brothers ASAP!
Two deep voices (literally!) speaking deep Truth.
Blessed and beautiful video! ❤
"It's not about you." The key to freedom and happiness right there. Great discussion! Thank you!
God bless you Father Josiah
I am overjoyed by this conversation.
I love your voice man. It's amazing
“I do not think that word means what you think it means”, to quote Indigo Montoya from the Princess Bride. Seriously, thank you for the content and the thoughtful conversation.
God bless both of you.
What an amazing conversation ❤
Respect to the Orthodox Christians and its many branches, from a cradle Catholic.
Beautiful conversation gentlemen!
I struggle with the divorce portion.. my ex-wife abandoned me, said she wanted to experience being single in her 20’s and moved to a completely different state and refused to return to our marriage. I tried to do what I could to salvage our marriage for 2 years, but finally capitulated to her asking for a divorce. My pastor, who also married us, said that there were Biblical grounds for divorce based on abandonment but every time I hear the Orthodox perspective on marriage I am filled with guilt. I remarried to a wonderful Christian woman and we have been blessed with the most amazing little boy, but I often wonder if I will be condemned at the final seat of judgment for living in adultery.
I’m sorry you are struggling with guilt. We all have regrets, and even fear of the hard edge of the words of our church leaders, but they are just trying emphasize the sanctity and purpose of marriage, in a culture that devalues it. Listen to 24:52 “we can really mess up… but grace super abounds, grace super abounds”. I hope that helps!
Fr. Trenham failed to mention that divorce is permitted in the OrthodoxChurch. I don’t know much about the process. The East doesn't share the RC view on this. Stuff happens in life. Abuse. Abandonment. Domestic violence. Etc. You fought for the marriage, you did your part, and God knows that. I hope that helps.
@@jajohnson7809 The Catholics deny divorce, but it's in name only. Instead of divorces, they just issue annulments instead. It's clearly a legal loophole to circumvent the scriptures.
1 Corinthians 7:15 addresses your issue. Follow Christ and you will be safe in His arms brother. Stay blessed.
Go to a good priest who will help you through the Catholic Church's way of having your marriage blessed. Maybe through annulment, or since you were abandoned, there may be other way's that you can work through to bring you and your wife's marriage recognised by the Church 🙏
