Hi friends! Thanks so much for the love on this video, unsure why RUclips's algorithm decided to boost it. Note that this is one of my older videos so the editing style is a bit slower. Be sure to check out my other videos on weird Pokemon topics such as this one!
I remember having a box of these! I definitely recall Pikachu and Gengar popsicles (I split the final Gengar in the box with my brother lol), can't say I ever saw the other Pokemon!
You really brought back memories with the Disney commercials. I remember eating those as a kid. I had no idea there were Sailor Moon Popsicles. Surprising because unless it was something mainstream like pokemon, getting anime merchandise meant you had to know a guy who knew a guy who knew a guy with an uncle stationed in Japan
I know the Gengar popsicle was real because I’ve had it plenty of times! but weirdly enough I’ve only ever seen Pikachu and Gengar and never saw any other Pokémon
This is really interesting! I have a fondness for character ice cream due to vague childhood memories and it makes me sad a lot of these just straight up don't exist anymore, at least in a solid form that is.
This well researched and very interesting watch. The fact that Popsicle, and Good Humor claim not to have these in their archives (as you pointed out, "interns not to care") is shocking. Of course its not unheard of especially in the toy collecting world of companies not knowing what figures they sold 20+ years ago or losing that information all together, it still stands that there's only 2 known photos of these Popsicles. Could the others have been made? Well, Marvel had several made, so its not out of the realm of possibilities that there's just no pics available of the others and mostly Pikachu, who is the face of the franchise, has pics on the net.
Bulbapedia tends to have alot of false information on the site as they don’t look into what they write(As anyone can write on it) so what’s written should be taken with a grain of salt. There were infact only Pikachu and Gengar..
Imagine finding the original popsicle molds for those... That gives me an idea Mattel keeps all their molds for every barbie ever made so maybe just maybe popsicle does the same with their character molds
I love and respect the research you put into this, and I know there isn't really any more reliable evidence to go off of to prove the existence of any of the other character popsicles. That said, explaining away everyone's anecdotes about the other flavors to the Mandela effect is kinda frustrating. I tried digging up any evidence of the jigglypuff popsicle on a whim and came up empty-handed, and I'm sure most of the rest of the people remembering it and/or the others are in the same boat. But I do think there it's totally possible they existed, even if it should be handled with skepticism until/if it can ever be proven. It's a silly topic though so nothing to lose sleep over lol. Just wish there was more old photos or something!
Agreed. This video is amazing but that ending is underwhelming, and the fact they've purged the other characters from Bulbapedia with so many people claiming otherwise leaves me unsatisfied. The person who initially wrote on Bulbapedia that the other characters exist should be contacted.
I’ve been really curious about the Sailor Moon popsicle since I found out about it! I really want a reproduction ice cream truck sticker for my car, but I can’t seem to find one!
Yeah, there really isn't even any decent scans on google! Nor is there really any photos of the popsicle. Idk why these branded Popsicles are so mysterious.
Thank you for the information for the Pikachu Popsicles! I was curious to find out what it was because I was scrolling the Out of context Pokemon account and found a image of the Pikachu popsicle.
I definitely remember Jigglypuff and Pikachu from the popsicle boxes. (I know Jigglypuff isn’t shown in any of the advertising, but I can almost guarantee it was in the boxes.) I remember the Pokemon popsicles in my elementary school freezer were all Gengar, for some odd reason. (Now I’m going to drive myself nuts looking for evidence of the Jigglypuff ones. If I find any online or in my old family albums, I’ll be sure to share! Haha!)
I'm going crazy doing the same thing haha When I was in Ocean City Maryland as a kid in either the summer of 2003 or 2004 I remember an ice cream truck at the board walk having both the Gengar and Jigglypuff popsicles. The Jigglypuff one was pink (ofc) with green gumball eyes. Although I loved Gengar so I got that one instead. While the packaging says that they're all strawberry and lemon, I'm pretty sure Gengar was grape flavored and Jigglypuff was cotton candy. I saw the Pikachu one at my local ice cream trucks all the time, but that's the only time I ever saw the other two despite trying to find them again. Never got to actually try the jigglypuff one...
OH MY GOODNESS I FEEL THE EXACT SAME. Jigglypuff is one of my favorite pokemon and I can almost swear I had one and then I kept getting my mother to buy more boxes trying to get another one but always getting Gengar.
Rmembered having a Genger popsicles when I was a kid.. Those were very good at the time but I also remembered my mom bought a full box of Pokémon popsicles too..But remembered having Ginger only though.
I cannot describe the joy and satisfaction this brought me!!! Thank you for your hard work! This is amazing! I thought I was the only one interested in this 😂 Things like this remind me why the internet is great!
The amount of research you did for this video is simply amazing! Also I got highkey excited when my profile pic popped up on Instagram when you were showing the searches 😂
I only remember eating the pikachu and gengar ones! They had sprees on them! I remember getting them at a public center that had like a pool and stuff.
I remember my brother eating the Gengar one when I was a kid. No recollection of any other character. Also, how did you make those "artwork vectors" that you showed? I'd love to try and make my own.
Lmao! Why when looking for these I found a video of you looking for it?? This is great! I think we're going to have to look on garage sales, storage unit sales, etc. Lol!
also, i deffffs remember having the squitrle popsicles when i was a kid ... I remember this cause i remember having gone back like 3 or 4 times to get another and another lol buttttttt it could just be that medinlaitaka (LOL) effect you were talking about
The info on these seems very confusing, to me. Many things point to there only being Pikachu and Gengar in the set, but one of the promotional stickers says "Look for them all," which is a super strange phrasing if there are only two in the set.
I'm so thankful that you did a video on this!! I'm a huge Gengar fan and thought I was delusional for the longest time due to my childhood memories of eating popsicles of my favorite ghost boy. I only remember Gengar, Pikachu, and the distinct lemon flavor. Also! The "black" on the Pikachu popsicle was definitely the same color as the purple used for Gengar, so I agree with your thoughts about only producing the two due to costs. I hope that some day more images surface because I feel like I *might* remember Meowth as well? But that may just be a false memory ^^;
I've could've sworn i actually did see a jigglypuff popsicle on Google in the early 2010s. I could just be remembering the pink panther popsicle put i believe it had a pale pink coloring, like nearly a white color. The inner ear coloring was brown. And it had blue gumball eyes. Sadly I don't know the flavor since I remember it being out of the package, but if i were to guess, it was probably a cotton candy or cherry flavor. Idk why but seeing these types of things always creep me out.
There were only two - Pikachu and Gengar. It worked because the color palette made them easy to mass produce. Pikachu is yellow with purple markings and red spree cheeks, while Gengar is purple with yellow markings and red spree eyes. Altogether just two colors + red spree. Not sure why the purple part was strawberry rather than grape, but it was what it was. There was a Garfield popsicle, which some people claiming to have seen Meowth might be misremembering.
Very great video - and well done research! I remember the pokemon popsicles very well but I would have only ever gotten Pikachu regardless if there were other choices, so not helpful for the investigation 😅
I do remember having the gengar popsicle, with Pikachu but never saw any other Pokemon, which makes me think they might have planned on having the others but canceled them. But like you said popsicles would only ever use one character per franchise, which is rare that Pokemon were able to have two used.
@@MewisMe700 I remember my brother and I getting the Pikachu ones while on a beach trip as a kid. You unlocked a core memory; Pokemon was everywhere that summer. I remember winning a plush Blastoise on the boardwalk as well.
What I want to know is more about the Digimon popsicles. It shows up in your video at 9:03 and 9:41 but the only other proof I can find of them even existing is an ebay listing for an ice cream truck sticker. Googling gets me nothing, and Wayback Machine doesn't get me anything either.

So strange he got a popsicle of all characters, you think it would be one of the starter types instead. It's crazy you showed the melting popsicles photos and they had Cosmo from fop, that thing is ridiculously hard to find irl photos of, lol!
The Spongebob popsicle can be found pretty much anywhere (even Gas stations) But other properties are mostly ice cream truck exclusives. Except Spider-Man, they can be found in small boxes of 5 or 6
Holy shit I remember these! I used to get these from the Pokémon popsicles all the time,I can remember Pikachu gengar and I think either meouth or jiggilypuff
I have some photos of the popsicles from July 2001. As far as I know, the photos of my popsicles other then Pikachu and gengar have been lost to time. I have a box of my pokemon merchandise in storage, but I moved in 2008 to the USA, and don’t wanna pay to get the box from storage (it’s in Korea). I WILL help though.
I could share the photographs online, but the problem is I don’t wanna pay for a airline ticket straight to South Korea. When I do find them, I’ll share them online the first opportunity I have.
@@MewisMe700 I have a idea. This may be a long shot, but it may be worth it to try. Pokémon popsicle sticks are selling for lots of money. If a bit of the flavor is still on them, maybe it could be possible to match it up with a popsicle.
These are the popsicles the people on my Reddit thread swore they had had. I do believe it’s the mandala effect, but I might search for photos. I remember having photos of most, but as I stated before, lost to time. I have photographs of some popsicles that I kept as collectors items. I did a search a few years back (reminder: I was around 6-7 when I figured out how to use a camera so I don’t remember) and that’s how I discovered Gengar. I have had a lifetime love for ice cream, and I worked at popsicle for around 3-4 years from 2013-2017. So I dug around some photos and I think I have a Charmander photo. I’ll update this comment if I find anything else.
i found something: popsicle keeps design sheets of every popsicle they make, and when i left popsicle, I grabbed some of the old ones. there is a pikachu, gengar, and charmander in there so that there were atleast 3 made.
It looked very similar to the Pikachu popsicle but it was I think either mango or orange. It no tail and this one did have gumball eyes. Orange colored.
I know this for a fact. No scans of the wrappers are kept in the archives. I can’t be much help there. If you want, I can email the design sheet for the Charmander.
Had to look up "pokemon popsicles video essay" just cause of jenny nicholson talking about it on patreon. I wonder if it was this same one. I will say, I kinda disagree with the mandala effect because I didn't think I'd ever seen any of these;.... except jigglypuff. I wonder if maybe there was a kirby popsicle or something else that me and other people are remembering? unless there were like off-brand pokemon type things.
Well the pikachu popsicle got remade by mistress melt btw I think I remember seeing that picture of the pokemon popsicle in 2014 I can't remember that much when I was little

I have had a lifetime love for ice cream, and I worked at popsicle for around 3-4 years from 2013-2017. So I dug around some photos and I think I have a Charmander photo. I’ll update this comment if I find anything else.
Oh yes please do!
i found something: popsicle keeps design sheets of every popsicle they make, and when i left popsicle, I grabbed some of the old ones. there is a pikachu, gengar, and charmander in there so that there were atleast 3 made.
Omggg if you have a scan I'd love to see! Can email pikabug7@gmail.com
A few years ago I saw a Pokémon popsicle of..the purple dude. ;-; I don’t know there names
I happen to be a Bulbagarden user and I fixed your problem. I edited that Pikachu and Gengar are the only ones ever released.
Oh good, thank you. I'm curious who had put that in there and what their evidence was for it
little did she know i had all the characters in my freezer from years ago.............
Pics or it didn't happen ;)

I remember eating a pikachu popsicle in 2015
I’m sure there were different Pokémon popsicles
I think they still exist but rarely in ice cream trucks..
Same with the mario ice cream bar with gumball eyes
I have the chills now
They said that there are 6 different ones to make it exciting but didn’t want to spend more money
It says you can get any Pokémon that’s on the box but everyone said that they have only gotten pikachu and gengar
Random child: Mickey mouse is that you?
Me: looks like they are least tried but that looks a bit not like Mickey mouse
I Would kill to have a Gengar popcicle
I had those popsicles before. They came in Pikachu and Gengar
Great video. They need to bring those pokemon popsicles back.
Hard agree!
This one youtuber named mistress melt remade it
I wouldn't be surprised if they did a reboot of them with how big pokemon is at the moment
They have to just get licensing again from pokemon, which pokemon is stingy to give sadly
@@MewisMe700 yeah didn't think about that
Oh no not the intro I heard that ice cream truck coming down the road and I was gonna barf. It had the hello too ofc. But no.
HELLO
DUNDUNDUNDUNDAAAA
Tbh someone should remake.the Pokémon popsicles
Had to look up "pokemon popsicles video essay" just cause of jenny nicholson talking about it on patreon. I wonder if it was this same one.
I will say, I kinda disagree with the mandala effect because I didn't think I'd ever seen any of these;.... except jigglypuff. I wonder if maybe there was a kirby popsicle or something else that me and other people are remembering? unless there were like off-brand pokemon type things.
Well the pikachu popsicle got remade by mistress melt btw I think I remember seeing that picture of the pokemon popsicle in 2014 I can't remember that much when I was little
Could you do the mystery of the missing white fruit snack
