Gonna try growing Florence Fennel for the first time this year for Autumn, Sowing seeds tomorrow. Ha I have the same watering issue you mention in vid too, blast the seeds everywhere with a can if I'm not v careful. I do find turning the rose the other way up to normal does makes it a bit more gentle, but yep soaking in water tray defo the way 😂👍 thanks for the vid ✌️🌿
Ah, I’m in zone 8-ish here and I’d say I would get them out of the ground in November before the worst of the winter weather. So best sown early spring or after the summer solstice 👌Oh, and they definitely need watering often, especially in dry weather in spring to prevent bolting!
Interesting. I have always considered florence fennel as wintery veg because this is when you eat them in Italy. But in the UK I don't know when is the best time for growing them. I tried in spring, late summer, autumns but never got a proper crop.
A good time to sow is after the summer solstice 👍 I've just finished harvesting them in November before the worst of the frost here in Oxfordshire. Where are you based?
Yes, when they bolt they produce a flower stem that will rise up. Just wait for the seeds to form after flowering 👌 the greens can be used as a herb itself too and can be added to a salad or garnish!
I make a simple syrup from the fronds or make an apple, fennel and kale slaw. The fronds also make an excellent tea and helps aid digestion,as do the seeds. The fronds also make a nice addition to shortbread 😀

Why don’t you use plastic over the seedling planting case so that will make its own water 💦 as if rain was coming down on it and you would just have to keep a eye on the growth of the fennel. Keep it inside until it grows Then plant it outside. Here is some real help from a real Queen Gardner.❤😊. Enjoy
Thank you Hanna
No worries 😉

Tackar ☺️
Seed saving? Fennel is a toughie! 👍
Try the varieties Zefa Fino or Trieste and you will have better chance of growing fennel successfully without it running to seed Hanna.
Oooh! Thanks! Great tip 👍
Is this the same as carawy seeds or it different ?
Can they be planted in the ground in the winter time? Zone 9.... How often do you water them?

To harvest the seeds do you just leave them to bolt? It will be my first time growing them this year...Also what do you do with the green is it a veg?
