I don't think I can convey the immense admiration and gratitude I have for Mr. Johnson and his work. I have learned so much from watching his videos, gained an understanding of restoration work, and honed my own skills so much... It is a priceless gift to me.
What I love about your videos isn't just that they're entertaining, but also informative and educational. I always learn a lot from your methods, techniques and commentary. I make furniture for a living and have applied so many of your ideas in my shop. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. That veneer patch on the lighter wood was great, looks like its original to the piece... All the best from Portugal
Like so many, I learn so many wonderful things about refinishing and repairing furniture. Making the inlay was something I had no idea about.....A completely new sense of awe for such craftsmanship
I RECALL THIS VIDEO, TOM. A PLEASURE THEN AND A PLEASURE NOW. YOUR SKILL IS MESMERIZING, THAT'S WHY I SUBSCRIBED TO YOUR CHANNEL MANY MOONS AGO. HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY!!!
I remember watching this repair earlier, and enjoyed it very much. Your attention to detail is a joy to watch. I have actually been looking to find the video again because I was interested in rewatching the veneer work, so I look forward to rewatching it later today!
When you come down in the morning with your coffee, still anticipating the results of yesterday's work, I click on your video with my coffee in hand - anticipating it with you. When times get tough, and families have to pull together to survive - somewhat like the times we are now in - antiques, skills, spare parts saving, and good tools take on a reverence because furniture built of solid hardwoods reflects what a family should aspire to - and that is to sit for generations around the same table. The best homage a tree can get.
When a craftsman/restorer finishes a piece. They rarely think it looks great. Mr. Johnson says I think it looks pretty good. No sir, it looks extremely good! Beautiful resto.
Thomas: I do remember this video from before and so enjoyed seeing it again. Magnificent! Fabulous! And Master Craft Work. The restoration turned out perfect. Carol from California
Wow Tom! Like magic, except I watched the entire video as I have so many of your videos. There's no magic to it, rather talent, experience, hard work, and most important love of what you do which makes the hard work fun. I have heard if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life. Perhaps that is true. Either way, I find it a paradox that someone as yourself can be so skilled that anyone but the grateful owner who knows, will likely never know all you did to bring this table back to life. Another inspiring video. Thank you!
Nice repair. When you said I will just make some inlay. My thoughts were, right, sure. But then you did it. I have never seen inlay put together. Fascinating for sure. Your work is truly amazing. Thanks
Your videos are always interesting but I especiaĺly like the shout out to your Dad, as our Dads are often not appreciated enough when we are able to tell them
I remember when I first time watched this video, and I was so shocked that you managed to deal with all "problems" so easily. No matter how often I watch your videos, I am always impressed by your skills. Thank You Tom for sharing your passion and knowledge with us
Ooh I'm glad I saved this for twenty-four hours so that I had time to really enjoy it. My favourite type of work that you do: colour matching and replacement inlay so skillfully executed it looks like magic. Thanks Tom, such a beautiful job, I could watch that all day!👍
I really enjoyed seeing your ingenuity in replicating the missing pieces of veneer and inlay which were lost in the accident that befell that lovely card table, Tom. You are a true craftsman.
You are an inspiration Thomas! Wish someone like you had been around when I was young. I would have been more attentive in school woodwork classes!!!!!
The veneers are so beautiful. That piece you chose for the repair looked three dimensional. The craftsmanship of those who lived so long ago is remarkable. To create veneer with such precision in the first place is astounding, considering the time and very basic tools. Skill.
This is a truly delightful piece but your repairs are just sublime to watch. From a railway signal box of clamps to the delicate finished product, it was a joy to watch ,made all the more intricate as you put in the time to film the work. Thank you .
Yes, I remember this repair too, but I love watching it again (and most likely I'll watch it again later on down the line) !! I love the inlay crafting and it's something I would love to try some day. Beautiful, beautiful art, Tom. It does look pretty DANG good!! 🥰
Enjoyed the video Tom. That was a lot of work. It really looks good though. I appreciate how you explain all the procedures you do in repairing the piece. Thank you for taking the time to produce the videos. Take care and God bless. .
you're a wizard, TJ! Beautiful , masterful restoration as usual. That yellow tape you use is nasty stuff! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with we students
Got the 4 corners of relaxing, satisfying, and educational restoration channels. Thomas Johnson Antique restorations, Baumgartner restorations, Four keys books arts, and Mymechanics.
From your exceptionally well done videos I've learned many techniques that have elevated my own restorations. More importantly I've gained the confidence needed to save family pieces that were headed to the garbage and to do only what's needed for a particular piece. Other "restoration experts" jump right to the can of stripper for every piece. Sometimes, once any structural repairs are done, a good cleaning and tinted Briwax is all that's needed to make a tired finish look amazing! Thank you Tom.
Just amazing!! You are the best in furniture restoration. I hope you have apprenticeships to pass along your vast knowledge and expertise. A fantastic job!🥰
What a beautiful job Thomas. I did some research, after watching, because I thought I had heard of a Master Woodworker in Rome that I thought you could be related to. Sure enough, after hours of research I came across the man. His name was Clampius Maximus. He resembles you uncannily 🗜😅🤣😂 !! Thank you for the wonderful video and may you, your wife, and family have a wonderful and joyous Christmas. John here, photographing the beauty of the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee, y'all.
In my opinion you should be given a doctorate in furniture restoration. If you read the other comments ( which I think you do), it would be well deserved. Love your work. 👏👏👏🇦🇺
Thanks so much for your videos. This youtube really appealed to me as our Federal Demilune card table took a dive face first onto the floor after my 4 year old son and his friend caught it with his large stuffed teddy bear. He was holding it in front of him coming down a stairway and must have swung the bear around the corner and caught the table with the bear's leg. All I heard was a crash as the table and everything on it hit the floor. The table was always sitting with the half circle leaf up and slightly leaning on the wall so a good hit with the bear slammed the leaf down, crushed the oil lamp and pottery on the table and hit the floor knocking the veneer off the front lip of the fixed half of the table and doing a job on the surfaces of both top table halves with broken pieces of lamp and pottery. Had I seen this inspirational video then, It would have been easier to take the carnage and get to work.

That's the best part - there is always something to learn and apply to your own projects.
Thank you Tomas! I consider it high praise coming from another tradesperson!
Estimado Thomas. Es una delicia verte trabajar y disfrutar tus resultados. Eres simplemente una eminencia en el oficio. Saludos
When Mr Johnson uploads a video you know its going to be awesome so its the right time to get a coffee/tea and prepare to be amazed and educated
Thank you Marek!

Excellent video, Tom! My wife walked past at about the 5:30 point and asked me how many clamps you have. Simple answer...never enough.
Always a need to clamp your wallet ?
As Tom would answer you always should have more than you think you need. You can never over clamp
Thanks! Oh yeah...
Good idea!
No, never! Thanks
An education and the privilege of watching a master at work.
Thanks Bob!

Thanks!
Excellent repair on a beautiful example of a period table. Just a joy to watch. Thank you.
