Wow, an absolutely awesome video of your C5 Corvette !!! Great cinematography and attention to features and likes/dislikes !! You have the most beautiful C5 example I have ever seen, and definitely one to be proud of !!! You could definitely have a C5 channel with your car, but I appreciate the shout out and work that you put into sharing your C5 example !! Now I want one !! Thank you again, and I’ll check out some of your other videos !!!
@@dkw6227 My pleasure and thanks for the comments/suggestions. It’s a great car, but in the end it is just a car….everything in perspective! I so appreciate you watching and commenting. My hope is you’ll take some time to look at the rest of the channel. Best regards!
The beauty of being a small channel is the ability to interact with individual viewers. I don’t know what the Lord has in store, but small has its advantages!
I enjoyed watching the review of your 02 Corvette. As the owner of a 2001 convertible with a 6-speed and Z51 suspension, I concur with everything you say about our later model C5's. Bought mine earlier this year in excellent condition with less than 40k miles on the clock for $20 grand. I feel like I got an outstanding value for my money. Mine's a "fun car" that I drive on nice days, so I don't depend on it as a daily driver. But I agree with you that the C5 is a very reliable car that is economical and pretty easy to maintain for most owners with reasonable mechanical skills. Every time I drive my car, I'm so happy I took the plunge into Corvette ownership! The smiles per mile factor is pretty high with a C5 Corvette.
I have an 06 GTO. But I love me C5 corvettes. You have a beautiful example! I'd love to get a C5 one day. They are a great mix of power and design! Not to mention bang for the buck!
Great video! Keep it up!😀 I have an 03 Z06 and while I agree the hatch back style is prettier, the fixed roof look better fits the Z06’s personality. The 55 more horsepower and 50 lbft more torque, along with the lower manual transmission gearing makes it more frantic when stepped on. It’s a different animal. The roof helps with creaks and rattles as well. My engine has had a slight knocking and tick tick sound especially when cold since I got it 3 years ago, but two months ago I tried Amsoil Upper Cylinder Lubricant in the gas and within 3 miles, the engine quieted down and the noises were gone! I won’t fill up now without it!
I haven’t tried a Z06, but agree 55 more HP is a good thing. The “ticking” can be cylinder slap, which is a common LS noise that goes away when warm. Your comment is the first I’ve heard concerning Amsoil. Thanks for the tip.
Great video! Enjoyed the format you used. I my try and do one like this on my C6 Coupe. 2009 Victory Red LS3 automatic. 64k on the clock. Enjoyed it thanks!
Thanks and I hope you’ll get the video made. The first 15 seconds took a lot more time and work than the rest of the video. Doing this stuff on your own can be time consuming but I enjoy it and especially the interaction with folks like you.
Thank you for your review. I’m looking at a 2 owner C5 2004 , 4 spd coupe shy of 7k miles, asking 26k$ plus; driven 4 of July, to maintenance appointments and Sundays , never seen rain ! As myself , a senior owner making room in his collection , stated reason for selling . Just passed state inspection , Texas. Will need new tires (3803) DOT Well I would like to baptize that blue beauty and politely drive as it should be driven . Learn something from these types of challenges… fuel filter location as you said . Just seeing the tip of the iceberg … any thoughts on navigating … Any car like this for that matter…a repair fund account etc Thanks, Steve
The price of $26k is on the upper limit for a C5, but the ultra-low milage offsets the asking price. The car probably doesn't need anything except tires as you mentioned. I bought my 01 earlier this year and all I did to it was a complete fluid service. It had 40k miles and was on its second set of tires. The owner had installed Hankook Ventus V12 Summer performance tires (not run flats) in the oem sizes both front and rear which were in excellent condition, but the date code showed they were 12 years old. He was very complimentary about the performance of these tires, and I decided to replace them with the same tire which is a next generation of the Ventus. Bought them at Discount tire and I couldn't be happier with the results. The tires are a great value price wise too.
Welcome aboard Steven, I’m actually out driving mine today! I’m no expert, but 2003-4 specific issues are some had the magnetic ride shocks (forgot the exact name) that are a true innovation, but hard and expensive to live with. Most convert to normal shocks, which takes some doing. The fuel filter location isn’t a problem until it is, so may never bite you. I like to change mine proactively, so the non-tank years allow for this much more easily and cheaply (prior to Q3/2002 I believe). Beyond that there are a mishmash of smaller issues, many I covered in this video. I didn’t cover that the C5 fails to provide an easy way to bleed the clutch fluid if you have manual, with is a big, expensive oversight. Most just keep the fluid until something fails, then add a remote bleed line when they service the clutch, torque tube, or have to change fluids. Typically you address all those pieces together. Get on some forums and look around. I may post some more videos of spare parts I always carry in my car so if I have a breakdown I have any hard find, most likely candidates. Ultra low miles is a two edged sword. One of the best things you can do to preserve a car is drive it 1 hr continuously twice a month to keep condensation out of oil and keep all the seals and gaskets lubed and lubricant thrown everywhere. So I like to see 1,500 miles a year; but that’s my rule. Check out C&S Corvette channel; Lyle knows his stuff and has many helpful videos.
Run flats are convenient for minimizing the impact of flats, but expensive and hurt handling. The C5 has no spare, so you have a difficult decision to make. I opted for a few cans of Run-Flat tire sealer, other’s mileage may vary.
The z-51 and the z-06 are not the same suspension. Z-51 shares only two parts with the z-06. The front springs and the rear sway bar. But as a 2001 z-51 6sp owner, I could not be happier. The coupe looks better than the fixed roof (IMHO) and the z-51 package is a great middle ground.
Thanks for commenting, and as much as I hate being incorrect, I looked thru a few resources after reading your comment and it appears I was wrong. If I’m able to edit that comment out gracefully, I will do so and am thankful for the correction. Shoot.
Well, the edit may be a little like putting lipstick on a pig, but took out the Z06 comment starting @ time 2:08. It will take a couple hours for YT to post the change, but thanks to you my honor is hopefully restored! 😅 Now I really want to try a Z06 to see how different it feels; the z51 is pretty tight and I wonder if I'd prefer even tighter for the driving I do. Thanks again!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts; they are a good value in today’s market for a very capable car!

They are fun cars, but GTO’s should also be fun.
@TailgateTinkerer love mine! 2000 to about 2018 was the best GM design and durability, in my opinion.
Spot on assessment. I've had my 04' base coup for about 7 yrs. Now. Pure pleasure every time I get behind the wheel🇺🇸⚜️🏁
Enjoy that fine ride of yours!
Thanks for the video review sir!
My pleasure and Merry Christmas to you and yours!
