Absolutely love the carrier command series and the dcs campaign that is inspired by carrier command that you guys are running love the content keep up the good work!
I started watching GR for DCS, and I will continue to do so. That said, Carrier Command has grown in appeal since I watched the first one. I really look forward to the next installment. Same with WolfPack, the submarine sim/game. Cap, you and your fellow GR's really deserve a hearty round of applause because you guys put out an insane amount of new content on a daily basis. Most impressive this is, Weed hopper, for much work do you, Grim Reapers. (What is UP with this dumb Yoda thing🤣🤣🤣)
Very exciting aerial battle! 22:10 When discussing the Needlefish escorts, I found that they are more like extensions of the Carrier's own weapon systems (i.e. CIWS, Torpedoes, Cruise Missiles, and 160mm Guns) more so than fully independent ships on their own. They also need to rearm and refuel from the carrier, so you will need to carry a bit of extra fuel and ammo. The biggest advantage of the Needlefish is that they will fire their weapons when ordered, even if the Carrier's own weapon systems are off. So in other words, you can pull the breaker for the weapons on the Carrier and still fire a cruise missile, assuming you have a Missile Needlefish. I recommend starting off with at least one CIWS Needlefish.
Another note for the Needlefish is they cannot keep up with the carrier at full throttle. I recommend barely entering the redline, that's about as fast as you can go while still letting them keep up. That, and if you get enough Needlefish, you can assemble a small fleet that basically acts like a second carrier. (so atleast one of each type) Finally, with the 160mm and Cruise Missile Needlefish, you can issue attack orders from the drone control screen to call in artillery fire support, without actually having to use a gimbal camera. I find letting the AI do the aiming with those weapons proves to be deadly precise!
meh, the CIWS needlefish is pretty worthless with very limited range. i found that having 2 cruise missile needlefish and a 160mm is pretty effective, once you clear all enemy ships and airplanes from an area, you can tell one of the missile needlefish to get within range of the group of islands you're working on. start doing ISR, find all the AA threats, take those down with a manta with a rocket pod and chainguns, then you can freely lob cruise missiles at any turret you've found as you get your strike force with IR missiles launched to go clear out the rest, retrieve the ISR bird with rockets and chainguns, rearm and refuel it, launch it towards the next island before the first plane from the strike package returns. once the strike is on its way back, you can send out a petrel, have it pick up a seal with virusbots, fly over to the island you've just hit, clean up any straggelers with the petrel, drop off the seal by the base, cap it, have the petrel pick up the seal again and return it. whilst that is going on the ISR bird is already over the next island identifying/prosecuting threats, the strike package is being retrieved and prepped for the next launch, and you cut your cap time down significantly. even for 4 shield islands. -edit i should add that with a missile needlefish you can give it a target through the vehicle control stations. the same way you could give manta's targets to prosecute autonomously, if you want to hit ships that havn't got CIWS, its a nifty little way to get rid of them, or if you want it to target moving seal's, walrusses or bears it'll keep tracking the targets for you without you having to sit in a gimbal cam view keeping a crosshair pointed at the target for 5 minutes.
@@isaacwest I disagree with the first part of your statement; The CIWS Needlefish are NOT worthless! Yes, the range of the CIWS is short, but that is true for all CIWS, be it on a carrier, a ground vehicle, a turret or a boat such as the Needlefish. The purpose of the CIWS is CLOSE-IN weapon support; It knocks down pretty much all missiles and occasionally attacking aircraft. It is a defensive weapon, not an offensive weapon like cruise missile or gun boats. It is like comparing apples and oranges. Having one or more CIWS in a fleet extends the range of the CIWS umbrella and operate independently of the carrier's own weapons breaker. CWIS Needlefish are cheaper, too, at 6000 per boat, as opposed to 8000 for a Gun Needlefish or 12000 for a Missile Needlefish. Bear in mind, too, that the Grim Reapers in this case do not currently have access to torpedoes or 160mm rounds. Therefore they could not resupply a Gun Needlefish; Once it is out of rounds, it is out. Yes, I agree that the Missile and Gun Needlefish can help you win islands, but know that the CWIS Needlefish has a place and a role to play, too.
@@ah64jimbo81 sure, but you need atleast 2 to cover one flank of the carrier. For 10k, that aint worth it. Not to mention the increase in fuel consumption or the drain on ammo if you actually use them

I love this campaign. Always looking forward to the next episode. Manta is best but an Albatross will also work. Both can out-turn an incoming missile and defeat it without countermeasures if you time things right.
