According to the owners manual the 92 RT TT will do top speed in 4th gear. I've never tried it in my 92 Stealth, but 3rd gear will do well over 100MPH.
In 1993, I bought a slightly used 1992 green Twin Turbo. I had it up to 162.5 mph on the Trans Canada Highway just east of Calgary Alberta at 5:30 am. It was cold, windy, and slightly snowing. My girlfriend and a bicycle and our suitcases were in the car. It would have gone quicker on a nice day. It accelerated hard until I shifted into 3rd gear. The car did not feel cross winds. Television program i just glanced at, i saw a guy getting into something like this. Been a long time since I saw one of either the Mits 3000gt or Dodge Stealth.
In Canada it all started with the 1987 caravan with that engine! The 3.0 was replacing the optional Mitsubishi 2.6L 110hp and 140ish ft/lbs with a smooth 3.0 sohc 12v v6 and power was bumped to 141 hp, and torquto 173 lb/ft i think,..not 100% sure. standard powertrain were now a Chrysler built balance shaft 2.5, 4cyl 100 hp and 3.0. The stealth engine added DOHC 12 V HEADS and twin turbos,....crazy 320hp ,..over doubling the power of that 3.0L block. Man, that Mitsubishi 3.0 was used every wherrrrrrre,..everywhere,...starting in 1987 dodge vans, dynasty, spirit, newyorker, Daytona dodge shadow ES and that the affiliated Chryslers like Plymouth and Chrysler variants. Hyundai Sonatas, kia cars, of course Mitsubishi's V6 .Good engine, but had oil burning issues, usually it was just valve seals. sometimes rings.
I had the 95 r/t TT in pearl blue. Girls absolutely loved it, alas baby seat never fit worth of hell 3 years later hadda sell it. My worst decision ever was to sell that car. It was stunning with the large polished wheels and upgraded suspension. It had the 320 hp motor and was very fast, 160 mph was the fastest I ever went but it was still slowly going up.
If anyone here is one of those folks who thinks USDM is superior and uses the Dodge Stealth as an example, unfortunately for you it is just the USDM version of a Mitsubishi 3000GT.
Just watching the intro, never press the brake pedal if you are going "a bit quick" past a police officer. Assuming you aren't being followed closely by someone else, just drop down a gear, and pull the hand-brake on slowly to decrease speed without bringing the brake lights on. If you brake, the police know that you know you were going too fast. Also reduces the amount of "nose down" you get too, because the front brakes don't get involved.
There's a lot of errors in this video. For example the early cars rated at 300 hp ran around 9 psi. I'm not aware of anyone who recommends unplugging the boost control solenoid, however there is a restrictor in one of the ports on the boost control solenoid which is often removed. This increases boost to 12 psi which is what the later model cars had, and thus produces the rated 320 hp of those model years more or less. Additionally, the touring setting on the suspension defaults to sport when certain driving conditions are met, for example heavy braking. So the amount the nose dives under heavy braking won't change between sport and touring.
the wear on the seats and steering wheel don't say "low kms". And pro tip, when selling a car you need to put on name brand tires. You don't put on the cheapest tires you can find, buyers will think you don't give a sh!t.
@@andrewmcintosh9832 Yeah stock is about 9psi and after the mod its about 12. Online, nice examples can fo for higher teens but yeah I've seen a handful locally all around the $8k range. Got mine for just over $5k.
@@Corbin089 If you are basing that number off the stock boost gauge maybe. That gauge is known to be not at all accurate and mostly just a general indicator that you have vacuum or are in boost.
Thanks for the video; loved it! Question for those familiar with stealths: I'm close to buying one but I need a bit of advice. 93 rt twin turbo with 182xxx KMs (I live in Ontario, Canada). It starts and runs but not perfectly at the moment. What happened was the owner is a customer of a mechanic and stored the car at a mechanic's garage. Over the winter some mice got into the engine and chewed up some wires. Car still runs and drives but not terribly smooth given the wires being chewed. Mechanic says it ran perfectly before the mice got in. Owner bought it previously for $3500 and is looking to get $2000 for it currently. Given the chewed wire situation, even though $2000 is quite cheap, is this even fixable or is it going to be a nightmare? If it didn't start/run I wouldn't even consider it but I trust this mechanic that it ran perfectly before (again not the mechanic's car, he's just storing it outside for the car's owner). Any advice is much appreciated!
dan If someone can see the chewed wires, they can repair the color coded wires. I suspect a different problem. I have an almost mint 92 R/T TT and after sitting in my garage over the winter it started, but wasn't drivable due to ECU failure. These cars have 3 computer units (ECU, climate control and electronic controlled suspension) and all of them had leaky capacitors. Electronics is a hobby of mine so I was able to repair the failed ECU and failed climate control with higher quality components to better than new condition. I rebuilt the ECS module before it failed and I caught it in time before the leaky caps corroded the circuit board. My point is that you should expect to address the bad capacitor issue in these cars. If it is done before the corrosive electrolyte damages the PCB or other components it's much less time consuming. The ECU was $1600 several years ago, but it's a relatively easy fix (even if a person only knows how to desolder and solder electronics components) if it is done before the PCB gets damaged. If the computer fails you will need someone competent enough to repair the PCB and make sure all of the corrosive electrolitic fluid is cleaned off the board to prevent future problems (corrosion). Considering that Stealths have gone up in price lately, I would say that a $2000 R/T TT would likely be a nightmare. Maybe not, but very likely.
Fun fact, Mitsubishi made the first hard top convertible in this car, about 10 years ago I seen one for 25k, probably cost the price of a mk4 Supra now
I've got a 92 dodge stealth r/t tt and it just got rebuilt, waiting on a heater hose and it will be on the road again. And yes third gear is just where the car drives, 30-80 can be in third, then I was put it into fifth gear when I wasn't changing speeds and cruising. The all wheel steering is super sketch at speed, at over 50 it feels like you are sliding sideways.
I had that exact same car same color everything and I loved it. That car was so quick off the line with the all wheel drive and 2nd gear I could take all the way up to 72 miles an hour. I had that car go up to a 165mph. I absolutely loved this car. The only down down side was the timing belt, the dealer back in 2004 wanted $4k to change it. I ended up doing it myself cinsidering the belt was only $110 but i had to jack the engine up about 1' to get enough room to change it. It took me a weekend to get it done.
To the two guys that did this review: I agree with 99% of what you guys said...and these cars are an incredibly good investment as prices are climbing (almost daily) on them. One thing you got wrong was the boost levels: Factory (bone stock) *peak boost* is: *9psi* for the 1991-1993 (first gen) models (which is what you have here in this video). Therefore, the 1991-1993 Stealth TT and 91-93 VR-4's had 300hp stock. The 1994-1996 Stealth R/T Turbo and 94-99 VR-4 (which had the 6 speed transmission) got a peak boost of 12psi. (which was a 20hp increase....i.e. 320hp). One other point to note: I have a poster up on my wall (factory advertisement from Dodge back in 1991) which showed the factory 0-60 on these cars was 0-60 in 4.9 seconds! That may not seem fast by today's standards...but back in 1991 that was MOVING!
It's same-phase steering so as others mentioned, it's meant to be used at higher speeds for things like high speed lane changes or sudden slalom-type moves to avoid something. The car kind of 'crab walks'; the slight rear end steer makes the car feel like it's stepping sideways. Goes a long to preventing oversteer incidents at speed.
Idk where you or he got his numbers from. It's run 5 psi stock, when you unplug the regulator it goes to 14psi. You run that thing 20 psi you'll blow the those small twins. It does put down 320 with a tune......I only know because I have one in my driveway that puts down 415 awhp on its way to 700. I also only paid 7k for my stealth rt tt The 3000gt vr4 sales for more than the dodge. The vr4 sales for around 14k not the dodge.
William Parker I'm pretty sure it is 9psi and 12psi with the plug removed. 9psi to only gain 20 HP doesn't add up. 14 psi is max boost for the little 9b's and they can't hold it to anywhere near redline.
If Mitsubishi used the same general body style, but with some updated drivetrain and features, they could sell this even today. I think a ton of people would buy a new 3000GT VR-4
The boost control solenoid has a plug in it that restricted the boost... remove the plug and the boost goes from 9 to 12lbs... thats all they did between model years.
It's a cool car if everything is working properly , but the vast majority don't fit into that category . The main reason that they aren't easy to work on and reliable , is that they are based on or are front wheel drive . And transmission behind engine rear wheel drive is inherently easier to work on and less problematic to start with .
They really arent that hard to work on. And they can be quite reliable if maintained. Problem is people think they can be worked on and tinkered with like a Honda. They cant. They're complex cars, and have to be treated as such...
@@keithharrison3636 It's a FWD architecture with RWD 'tacked on', ie a transverse-mounted engine with a transaxle (transmission and differential combined). The rear transfer case is just a PTO sending power to the back wheels. Same idea as say a Honda CRV, basically a Civic with rear drive components added on. Doesn't make it a bad car, but undeniably nose-heavy like a FWD car as much of the powertrain weight is in front of the front axle. A RWD architecture with AWD tends to have a better weight balance and is set up very differently.
there is a boost control solenoid on the firewall that has 2 rubber hoses going into it. pull the solenoid out and in one of the nipples you will notice 1 of them looks more restricted. thats a little plug that you can remove with a pick. hook back up and then have fun!
STOCK BOOST IS 20 psi??????!!!!!!! ROFL the motor would blow if that were true. 91-93' boost is 10psi. They raised the boost level 2 psi for later years for an extra 20 hp.

I had a 92 RT Turbo in black back in 93- 96. Put snow tires n it and drove it year round. Sold it to a 16 year old kid. Felt like I was giving a toddler a hand gun….
"do you ever get out of third gear in this car" so true!
On my 1991 Dodge Stealth R/T TT AWD, i’m going to put in jet black interior with candle apple red seats!!!! Keeping mine!!!! The value WILL go up!!!!
i have had mine for several months and the amount of likes/Gen Z & ring millennials that have asked about it, just one of those cars that wing devalue!!!! In fact, if the economy ever goes bust, this car will appreciate even more!!!!
yo i love this owner. He's cool as hell lmao. you guys had some dope chemisty
Ty Mac The Stealth R/T TT actually has DOHC 24V heads.
My friend has one of these he has had it new since we were in high school.
Yeah, and it won't eat a first gen NSX either.
I've been wanting this car when I was a kid watching Bandit on TV.
the wear on the seats and steering wheel don't say "low kms". And pro tip, when selling a car you need to put on name brand tires. You don't put on the cheapest tires you can find, buyers will think you don't give a sh!t.
Yea that is not a $14k car. Stealths go for considerably less than the 3000GT. It also scares me that guy thinks stock boost is 20 psi lol.
@@andrewmcintosh9832 Yeah stock is about 9psi and after the mod its about 12. Online, nice examples can fo for higher teens but yeah I've seen a handful locally all around the $8k range. Got mine for just over $5k.
I had a3000gt vr4 after that what boost solenoid it was above 15psi
@@Corbin089 If you are basing that number off the stock boost gauge maybe. That gauge is known to be not at all accurate and mostly just a general indicator that you have vacuum or are in boost.
@@Corbin089 If your boost was over 15psi on stock injectors you would have blown your motor.
Everyone I know that had a manual transmission it went up at 200k miles. My 92 NA went up at 195k.
Best Car I Have Ever Owned !!
-Sarge
Also, the Stealth R/T turbo did not get the active front and rear spoilers as they incorrectly said it did at the 4:39 time stamp.
The rear steering works at high speeds?? If that’s true, that’s pretty sweet!
It only activates over a certain speed.
Activates at 30 mph
It's same-phase steering so as others mentioned, it's meant to be used at higher speeds for things like high speed lane changes or sudden slalom-type moves to avoid something. The car kind of 'crab walks'; the slight rear end steer makes the car feel like it's stepping sideways. Goes a long to preventing oversteer incidents at speed.
Love your videos!
Where at is there crown Vic rcmp vehicles? Here in Nova Scotia I’m pretty sure they stopped using them.
There was a PC game called Test Drive in the 90s and this car was awesome in it
I had the same 3D Green Stealth R/T when I was in the army.
I hit over 150 in that car in college. Miss it.
They look like they could be brothers lol
Butt buddies
The rod knock tho😫😫😫
Yeah, doing something as some as Checking the oil is hard.
I also only paid 7k for my stealth rt tt
The 3000gt vr4 sales for more than the dodge.
@@gordthor5351 Correct.
This was MisterBitchys tech and performance flagship . It had options that you probably have never seen in another car .
If Mitsubishi used the same general body style, but with some updated drivetrain and features, they could sell this even today. I think a ton of people would buy a new 3000GT VR-4
No you don’t unplug a switch…. That doesn’t work. Why do you even say these things the community is clowning you.
Yea you unplug a switch and get 20psi! Rofl.
The boost control solenoid has a plug in it that restricted the boost... remove the plug and the boost goes from 9 to 12lbs... thats all they did between model years.
I had a 92 VR4 and the stealth RT tt i sold them parts are getting hard to find and expensive to keep them on the road
It's a cool car if everything is working properly , but the vast majority don't fit into that category . The main reason that they aren't easy to work on and reliable , is that they are based on or are front wheel drive . And transmission behind engine rear wheel drive is inherently easier to work on and less problematic to start with .
This platform is not based on fwd- the fwd was only introduced for the North American market.
I disagree.
@@wheels-n-tires1846 Parts availability was a deal breaker for me. Couldn't enjoy the car, worrying about stuff breaking and trying to replace it.

What do you "unplug" to get more boost and more horse power??? Thanks
there is a boost control solenoid on the firewall that has 2 rubber hoses going into it. pull the solenoid out and in one of the nipples you will notice 1 of them looks more restricted. thats a little plug that you can remove with a pick. hook back up and then have fun!
STOCK BOOST IS 20 psi??????!!!!!!! ROFL the motor would blow if that were true. 91-93' boost is 10psi. They raised the boost level 2 psi for later years for an extra 20 hp.
Stock engines can handle 20+ psi pretty well. Speaking from experience

The supra that doesnt disappoint
My friend had a 91 VR4 as his first car! He bought it for $1000 of a meth head (in like 2005!). The thing would never hit boost, then we heard a pop... and it boosted ever since!! Those motors are pain in the asses to work on.
So is the NSXs, 300zx, supra, GTR, etc. Honestly in my opinion these are easier to do alot of major engine work then all of those.
@@blackmount1 i think Supra's and nsx's are easier than a 300zx or one of these or a r34. Im sure there are tricks and trick tools but even spark plug changes are very tough on the 3000gts..even the na's.

The majority aren't turbos though. I've seen a handful of base models and ES models around me but no other turbos.
