Growing garlic in the ground takes 6 months. Planting individual cloves 4 to 6 inches part. Get the garlic in the ground in early Oct and harvest in June. Each clove should grow into an entire bulb.

@LETUSSEEITNOW it doesn’t because it uses the nutrients from the garlic to grow the foliage that you can eat. I’ve always planted my garlic in the fashion that Jess Yates has except I do mid October because that’s what everyone in my area does.

I plant individual cloves in compost in September. They will sprout sometimes fast, sometimes slow but here in Western Oregon the winters are mild enough that frosts won't kill them. In the spring they will start growing fast. Remove any flower stalks (called scapes. they are edible.) to encourage the bulbs to be bigger. When the leaves start to turn yellow, dig the garlic up and leave in the sun to cure for about 2 weeks. This usually happens late July or early August. Soft neck varieties can be braided for storage. Hard neck varieties can be stored in egg cartons. I honestly thought you were going to use the greens. Good luck with future tries.

If you want to grow a full bulb of garlic then your clove of garlic must have been planted in the soil before some very cold winter weather. For spring planting you can duplicate this by putting the cloves in container of soil (like a ziplock baggie) and then putting that baggie with soil and clove into the freezer for 3 weeks. After that you are good to go for spring planting in the dirt.

Alternatively, you can cut the top half of your bottle, flip it upside down und put it inside the bottom half of the bottle. That way you create a platform that stays afloat on the water level. The platform also keeps the onion from getting wet, while the roots grow through the narrow opening of the bottle head. It looks a bit like this: |V|
When you change the water you can just take the whole platform out.

I always grow my garlic in soil. I plant my single cloves at the end of October, before the ground freezes. They will die in the winter, but in spring they will come back up and around July/August the green will start turn brown. Once about 2/3 of all the green is brown it's time to harvest them. I always end up turning my cloves into nice whole bulbs.
It just takes a bit more patience than 3 months in the soil and you harvested your garlic too soon.

They won’t grow ful bulb in water. They have to be planted in the soil for good growth. Growing garlic in water is just for sprouting purpose. Coming to actual bulb of garlic 🧄 you need to place each clove into the soil. Let us know if you have more queries.

Patricia Deluna plant your Garlic in dirt around start of winter or bit before depends on what climate you live in tho. Then let them grow for like 8 months until they die off in summer time. I’m no expert but that’s what I do and garlic takes months to grow new bulbs. You only need one glove per plant so separate them all when they get roots and sprout shoots then plant all separately. This video is only good for sprouting the roots not for growing actual garlic bulbs. Once they start growing roots and greens the bulbs that were once okay for food are now not really edible as they will be soft and woody as the plant uses them for food etc for the next garlic bulb they make if ya know what I mean. That’s why garlic that has shoots coming out of it in supermarkets isn’t good fo eat but it’s great if you want to regrow it to make more 8 to 9 months later.

This is like another video I saw about growing garlic hydroponically. Same mistake as the other guy. He starts out with one bulb per glass and ends up with one bulb per glass plus green shoots on top.
This should have been broken into cloves and each clove put in a separate glass. You'd probably need a net cup so the cloves wouldn't fall in.
Probably needs nutrients as well. The source of the marterial for the shoots is the body of the bulb. It's literally eating itself.
So: separate into cloves, one clove per glass, put nutrients in. You may or may not have to aerate the water. It will probably require the same light as for soil. This is hypothetical since every search hit so far for hydroponic garlic has been disappointing.
Given my experience with other plants I'd expect the hydro to grow a lot faster and probably taste better. Once I saw the difference I never planted lettuce, tomatoes, spinach, etc in soil again.
