I'm from the Netherlands so in a very different setting from India, don't even understand the lyrics. But this song just awakens a deep longing to go 'home', to where my own roots are, or even to our universal source (in a spiritual sense). It's very very beautiful.
The way you have expressed the meaning, clearly says that you have understood the meaning even if you don't understand lyrics. Truly, music has no language.
it's been 4 years away from home.. and while you're sitting alone in your apartment in a foreign land.. believe me, this song hits at a very different level.. 😞
I completed my masters in Boston, USA. Whenever I used to watch 'Swades' in USA .I used to laugh I used to think this is not possible in real LIFE. But today I am back to India. I cried a lot by watching this movie after 8 years. Its definitely an eye opening movie. SRK nailed it .
No matter who you are Hindu,Muslim or Sikh, this song will touch your heart if you are an Indian. Also I will always remember Shahrukh Khan for doing this movie. Its like a classic, too bad it did not get the success it deserved. If Swades had released in 2015 it would have been a much greater success because the audience has matured by leaps and bounds today.
This movie stopped so many people moving abroad, I am one of them …did my engineering in 2007 and had clear chance of doing MS from USA but didn’t opted for that….I am working for a multinational in India and travelled almost 30 countries but my India is the best …
The specialty of this movie is that at its end, u feel like u r Mohan.. and want to go back and live with Kaveri Amma, Geeta... Mela ram etc. Hit like if u agree.
I don't think that writer and director thought in deep like you did. Anyways, good analysis, the same thought was coming to my mind when i was seeing this movie.

This song should be in the Guinness book of world records: for oceans amount of tears shed in love of one's country. It is just being Bharatiyas, stay united, stay strong
I was in US for 6 years starting in 2015. I literally did not see or listen to this song for the first 3 years. I avoided it because I knew it would bring me to tears and on my knees begging to go home. When the days to come back came nearer, I would listen and sing this song. There is something about these lyrics that transports you to those little roads, homes, family members and festival celebration. It's like going into a trance. Now I am back to India and have listened to it with pride and reverence. Love you India and no other country can be better than you for me.

After clearing my IELTS exam somehow I stumbled upon this masterpiece movie. Back then I wanted to live in a developed country and become rich. But now I realise that I have to be here in India for my own happiness because the time I get to spend with my family and friends here cannot be traded for money and living standards that I may get living abroad. My India will become the most developed country in the world and I want to work for that along with my people. I don’t want to live in an “already developed nation”. Moreover no other country can be better in terms of our food, culture, unity and diversity. Thank you SRK, Ashutosh Gowariker, Ayan Mukerji, Javed Akhtar, A.R Rahman and all the people behind this wonderful creation. As someone who is in US this song very clearly depicts the dilemma that we face..No matter how long you stay outside of country you will always feel homesick and deep down you know that India is where heart belongs
The most heart aching scene from this movie was when Srk travels to a village to collect the rent. Later next morning he gives them a sum and he comes back without collecting the money after seeing their deprived life. That scene was real prick in my heart. That's what the real india people do live without essential things in life. This was a gem of a film.❤❤
True bro when he went there and farmer offered him the bajra roti and his family is watching him eat that roti in front of their eyes i can never know how desperate they were , that scene still shook me to my core ....
Yes that one and the next day when he returns in the train. That little boy selling water for a mere 25 paise. Years came in my eyes. Swadesh is a gem movie. A classic.

Just watching Swadesh on Doordarshan. I lived in USA for 21 yrs, and came back here 2months ago. I have never been more proud and at peace with any decision of my life. This song sums up all my feelings.
Yes I did. And this week I'm gonna complete 2yrs. When we moved it was 2015, Obama was still the President (God bless the man!). And now looking at USA in 2017, I feel even more proud that my decision was well-timed! I am thankful to USA for giving me a perspective of the world that I couldn't have had sitting here in India. And thankful enough to have taken the decision to be back, as the essence of this song! Wish you best in your soul-searching!
Thank you. I am trying to move back slowly over a period of 3-5 years. My parents will stay in states while myself and my wife set everything up in India. This way there is no COMING back to USA. People in their early 30s like myself need to do something there successfully. That's why I would like to move slowly not in one shot. In one Shot move, people generally fails to establish themselves in india and ends up back in the USA.

Returning TO India I’m 30 years old and I’ve lived in Australia since 2013 and have worked in various jobs. While Australia has offered many opportunities, I found that I wasn’t satisfied on a deeper level. Despite the financial stability, I realized that material wealth alone doesn’t fulfill me. I frequently visited India and felt a deep emotional connection every time I left, which made me realize that India truly feels like home. Australia, while offering a high standard of living, has its own set of challenges. The cost of living is high, and the focus often seems to be solely on work, with little time for personal fulfillment. The migration rules and overall system sometimes feel restrictive, and I don’t experience the same sense of freedom that I do in India. I’ve also traveled to other countries like the USA and Canada and observed that while they have their own strengths, they also have their own set of challenges and societal issues. The sense of community and connection I feel in India is something I deeply value, and I believe that being close to my roots and my land will bring me greater personal satisfaction and a more meaningful life.

Ashutosh Gowariker, has really made this movie straight from the heart. It has none of the ridiculous clichés one is typically used to seeing when one sees a story about an India returning home. He has captured something which perhaps no other Indian movie has - that love for ones country can be strong without making an excessively big deal about it. It is a long movie. But I think the rather leisurely pace of the movie is required because it gives enough time for the protagonist, Mohan Bhargava, to come to India (with his mineral water and caravan) and start to fall in love with its beauty as well as understand its incongruities which frustrate us all as well. I thought there were three moments in the movie that captured it all 1. The feeling he gets when he starts to land in India. All of us feel it. I do even today. It's called coming home. 2. The mineral water - that is a classic. In fact it is a character of its own throughout the movie and plays its own part! 2. The boy serving water at 25paise to the train passengers and Mohan Bhargava's reaction I am saddened that Indians both in India and around the world have not liked this movie. It will be remembered as an epic. 2.

I first heard this song/watched this movie in the Summer 2021, when I stayed at my out-of-state university for the additional summer, meaning I was away from home for over half the year. It had been 7 years at that point since I was in India. Hearing this song, after being isolated without much human interaction for all that time I finally shed tears for the first time in a while, and missed both my familial home in New Jersey, and India, the land of my ancestors for thousands of years. I'm happy to say that I will finally be going back to India for 10 days this December, and I can't wait.

Returning TO India
I’m 30 years old and I’ve lived in Australia since 2013 and have worked in various jobs.
It's time to come back home.Home to India
Belonged to a small village in India and living in Australia longer than a decade, I choked with emotions every time the song is played

I thought there were three moments in the movie that captured it all
1. The feeling he gets when he starts to land in India. All of us feel it. I do even today. It's called coming home. 2. The mineral water - that is a classic. In fact it is a character of its own throughout the movie and plays its own part! 2. The boy serving water at 25paise to the train passengers and Mohan Bhargava's reaction
I am saddened that Indians both in India and around the world have not liked this movie. It will be remembered as an epic. 2.

I said it once, I'll say it again. This is SRK. Yeah he has the stardom doing those romantic movies, but his phenomenal acting is so underrated. He deserves to be where he is today. Till this day, this is my favourite performance from an Indian actor
He deserves so much more🎉
Please re- release this movie yaar. I want to watch this in theatre🥺
and .i know everyone cried on that water selling scene

I’ve been to India in sept ‘23. After 23 years in the USA. It’s March ‘24 right now. And I’m still shedding tears at this song. This is just holding special places in every pardesi’s heart. Like this if you’re an expat from India making another country your home, injecting just that special ingredient making it your home.
❤
This song is hitting hard when We, 'The People of India' are celebrating 75 years of Independence.

Audience was not ready for this masterpiece in 2004
They are still not ready since it's not selling jingoism.
@@ankitpandey2613 bang on. Infact we arr worse off than 2004.
Indian audience is never ready for good movies.
The Hindi audience (a majority) doesn't like good movies. They're all about the Sheila munni nonsense.

beautifully shot, brilliant script with great performances and one of the best scores i’ve ever had the privilege of listening to.
this movie has aged like the finest wine one could imagine.
This movie was way way way ahead of its time. It even would have been nominated for Oscar. This movie can never be repeated. It's a Classic.
Swadesh was a 2004 movie...
Chigurida kanasu was released in 2003, now you can compare which one is a masterpiece..
@@chethanchethu2427 lol..being released before is not benchmark for greatness of movie
No one talking about the soulful voice of Mr. A.R Rehman which give this song a life.
Absolutely. It's a masterpiece made by collective efforts of A.R.RAHMAN, SRK, ASHUTOSH GOVARIKAR and all involved. Even after so many years it still has the power to stir your soul. 😇
Every song of A R Rahman music composed in Chennai.
Not in Mumbai even slumdog millionaire movie also.
So it's the reason why he has soulful voice.

Why can't anyone see the brilliance of Ashutosh Gowarikar? Without him there wouldn't have been this great movie.
Proud of Ashutosh Gowarikar.
Just imagine AR Rahman bagging oscar for these album..
i will not be surprised...
i still remember the scene in which a kid sells water to SRK while in a train and then he breaks into tears...it breaks my heart everytime
Right man
.Never forget the sacrifice of our freedom fighters who formed this country. Jai Hind! Happy Independence Day!
Felt same at the situation of the kid.

I'm always been blessed being born in INDIA, but always after this song... i always get emotional to my motherland..."Bharat mata ki jai"
How many of u just throwed their identity like caste , religion ect..while listening to this song and just felt that u r an Indian...This song just look like a mom's lullaby that comforts her child by saying that I M THERE FOR U ...
frankly, the identity, indian comes before religion.
+Mosina Syed you're so correct on this.
+Mosina Syed
This song is about *Motherland* .... motherland does not ask its children about their caste / religion / gender ... ANYONE BORN in the motherland is *_equally loved_* by the motherland.
👍👍👍
+DeepBlue Ya u r correct..It is our mother who treat all their children equally..
Listening to this song on 15 August and being outside the country .. “heartaches”

Saw this movie in a nearly empty theater......while bullcrap movies were going house full.....
My parents are from India, but I was born and raised here in the US.
❤
Welcome to your homeland ❤️
Warmth of your ancestors will all always make it special.. Welcome to india always🎊
Where do u stay in India
Identity will always remain Indian no matter where we go... not demeaning you but I cannot see my daughter grow up and call herself "BRITISH INDIAN" (I m in the UK now)...I don't understand the meaning, I call it "INDENTITY CRISIS". People here consider you Indian and not one of them and back in India people call you Britisher... what the heck!!
15th August, 2019.
This is the movie that made me cancel my decision to go abroad for studies.
This is not a movie..It is a intense feeling
Great decision

The feeling to contribute towards India is like no other feeling in the whole world.
i am not Indian, but this movie is the best movie so far Bollywood ever produced. When I wacthed it, I felt that, even now also I feel the same.
