That's the thing. I'd say most people who buy macs do it for productivity and play occasionally which I think it is why developers are not too keen to port their games to mac.
@@lost_valley that will change more and more, the more that apple continues to actually invest the time in reaching out to the devs and getting the ports to come over, eventually apple computers will become a very competitive gaming computer.. I see apple making a dedicated gaming pc edition in the future..
It's great to see all these games being ported over to macOS. Eventually with the way Apple is evolving, macOS/iOS/iPadOS will be among the first platforms to be released on, along with consoles and PC! Not just an afterthought like now.
Indeed :-( Problem for the type of AAA games mentioned in this video is that the Apple TV isn’t powerful enough, but if Apple could turn it into a gaming console in top of being a streaming device it would be great. One option would be to release an Apple TV with better chips (M or M Pro series) but I’m not sure the market is there for it. Another option which I think they should really look into is to offer a very easy way to locally stream games from a Mac to an Apple TV. As in the Apple TV could show a menu of all games installed on Macs on the same local network and the user could just launch the game on the Mac and start streaming it on the the Apple TV from within the Apple TV interface. This would require no effort from developers, very little work for Apple, and would allow anyone who already has a M series Mac and any Apple TV to start playing Mac AAA games in their living room immediately.
You can stream the games from mac to vision pro. You can even stream it in ultra wide 32:9. But I prefer to ndi steam from ps5 pro to vision pro using a 4K hdmi converter.
Yyou can actually by mirroring mac to apple tv. The problem is latency

@@jedlc1189 Yes AirPlay really isn’t designed for gaming. They’d need to optimise it for latency. But also if they wanted to make it mainstream they’d have to streamline the process. I.e. as I mentioned an App on the ATV would let you browse the games on the Mac and launch the stream directly from the ATV interface.
Apple needs to open up their own game studio at this point. If they came out with some awesome games similar how Nintendo has Mario and Zelda, I think that would make a huge difference.
Great Video as always 👌. Could you please make a video sometime testing iPhone / iPad coolers and how they impact performance and thermal throtteling. Thank you very much.
What Apple needs imo, is a mac gaming store to the likes of steam but with universal purchase, a library and auto game updates during sleep option. They need to invest way more, the build it and devs will come will not work in a competitive market like MacOS. It only worked on iPhone because of the monopoly. I started this channel with the launch of the M4 mini to get the word out about Mac gaming. Doing my part in bringing it to more people. Averaging 20-40k views per month for a 300subscriber channel.
Awesome lineup coming! And it's great that games are releasing on the Mac App Store. Another thing I think we need is sales on the MAS. Apple is also quite behind on this front.
hardly huge games these, but it's good to see game devs are making a move, tentative as it may be - I think we will get some of the large titles inside a couple years
Can we be at least a little honest with ourselves? Celebrating old games that are available for years on other platforms is debatable at best. I am waiting for Mac gaming to shine for 20 years. Year of Mac gaming will be when games launch day one with PC and console not when we get 3+ years old titles.
About Virtual Programming and Witcher 3, in the „About” page of VP, they say, they are partnership with CDP Red. If not partnership with W3, than with what? Also, this is not the first time when CDPR send making port of W3 to another studio (Nintendo Switch port of W3 was made by someone else).
why are most games only coming via the app store? is that a requirement from apple if they use apple tools or something? just curious why they don't release on steam as well.
Apple’s software marketing manager Leland Martin have said ”We’re seeing titles come to both Steam and the Mac App Store, and we’re seeing games come to the Mac via Steam exclusively. It’s really up to the developer’s choice, and we help them whichever decision they make.” So it’s the developers’ decision, not Apple’s. The reason is to make more money. Can sound strange since many prefer Steam but for example Capcom is known for wanting to find new ways to maximize its profit. They release their Mac games on App Store to sell new copies. If they released them on Steam many who already have Resident Evil games wouldn’t need to buy a Mac copy. We see this happen to titles that already been released on Steam, like Death Stranding and RE games. That’s why new games released for the first time for PC and Mac get simultaneous release on Steam and MAS, like Lies of P, Riven Remake, Frostpunk 2, Layers of Fear and Fort Solis. It doesn’t matter then where people buy their copy. There are exceptions though like Stray that was already on Steam but got a Mac port there too. Lies of P was only exclusive to MAS for a few days I think. Also if the games are being released for both Mac, iOS and iPadOS they will more likely be exclusive to MAS.
@@EverydayMacofficial oh, that actually makes sense. I guess I was just thinking that some people (like me lol) are more likely to buy the game if its on steam rather than the App store (which is usually more expensive and rarely has sales) so I couldn't understand why not steam too, but thats on me as I don't have access to windows and haven't really explored the windows games on mac options (crossover, whiskey etc) so it didn't cross my mind about the game already being owned on steam by a lot of people so the devs not making money on a mac steam release, but that actually makes a good deal of sense. Thank you, I appreciate the reply
as an old school gamer , I must confess a lot of the modern games I’m just not a big fan of , I liked some of the antique games like doom 😊, quake, half life original, battlefield original, day of defeat in multiplayer , although i haven’t played any , I suspect I’d like some of the zombie fps shooter games too, the sniper one you mentioned sounds alright , counter strike was another gooden imo , is my age showing 😂?
Yes, it is up to us to show that we want the games. But then they should not release exclusively on Mac App Store and insinuate library splitting, hence if I bought it on Steam I can swap between a handheld PC like Steam Deck, desktop and Mac however I like. Kudos to CD-Projekt Red, Firaxis etc. for bringing it to more PC stores/game launchers. I know whom I’ll be supporting.
Well all would but epic is never going to let their blood feud with Apple go at this point. They aren’t also raging at google now too. Their leaderships is gonna bankrupt them.
I don't subscribe to this channel to curb my expectations for PoE2. You're right, "keen" is not a confirmation. But I expect "keen" to mean: "we are working on a solution". Right?
Yes you can casual game on apple silicon (at least some titles), choosing an apple for gaming is a waste of money, i miss the comparison between e.g. M3 Max vs. 7800X3D with 4070 or RX7800. Still if gaming is your argumentation for speccing your apple device higher you are probably on a bad decision, if your apple device is specced higher anyway due to your serious work, yes you can play older titles with Framerates between 30 and 60 FPS. Interesting will be a comparison of an actual graphics demanding title on actual hardware Silicin vs. PC vs. Game console.
Let's hope Cyberpunk2077 Mac is a better port than Baldur's Gate 3. The developer who ported BG3 should be ashamed of themselves. Windows BG3 ran better on my Mac than BG3 Mac running on Mac OS!
I have BG3 as well and it runs perfectly fine on my M4 Pro unbinned. It only used up 12GB of ram and the CPU and GPU weren't even hot to the point the fan would kick in.....

I already own some of these games on Steam. Why buy them again on the App Store? No way. App Store games are pricier, lack cross-platform availability, and rarely get deep discounts. If Apple wants to make Mac a serious gaming platform, these games must be on Steam too.
hopefully Macs get better with video game graphics, if I'm gonna get rip off by nvidia I might get a well suited mac with the graphic power to run games at similar levels
Virtual Programming did the Mac port of The Witcher 2 (and it's always been terrible, so we should not be hopeful of their involvement in anything newer)
i'll update macs status of cannot game to can barely play a few AAA games but you dont have any choice in what games as there arent many. Dont buy mac for any gaming purposes!
