It was a brilliant decision to refurbish this machine as it will still be operating long after we aren’t, and it’ll do everything you’ll ever need to do. Well done! ❤️🔧✌🏻
Back in the olden days pre unleaded gas cars got valvejobs at 50 to 75,000 miles . Modern heads have harder valve seats so cars today 250,000+ miles before needing a valve job
I would love a video on the process of grinding seats and valves. I have that exact valve grinding machine and I'd like another opinion on grinding valves and seats. Keep up the good work.
Someone would have been very proud of that contraption when they bought it 3/4 of a century ago..... pretty big ticket item..... it's ended up in the right place for sure! Cheers from NZ.....
Great video!!! I have one of the black and decker grinders myself mine is a bit newer I think van norman made it for black and decker. I bought mine at a flea market it was just a black ball of grease and crud no red showing at all I restored it to full operating condition and use it in the small engine shop i work at. also have a souix grinder i restored and use for home shop work. beam equipment has a lot of the parts stones and manuals for these old grinders. Can't wait for things to warm up here myself lots of projects to do. *Wrench Salute* PS don't think they ever had a belt guard on them. mechanics back then were smart enough to not drink the battery acid or stick their fingers in the belts :D
NEXT YOU NEED IS A OLD BEAK LATHE, THAT IS IF YOU DON'T ALL READY HAVE ONE / YOU AND YOUR SHOP HAVE COME A LONG WAY OVER THE YEARS , LOOKING AT YOUR SHOP TODAY , YOU HAVE BEEN TRULY BLESSED
You should show doing the seats and valves , there's not near enough videos on the how to machineiest, I remember going to old school machine shops growing up and the smell is something I'll never forget , cutting oil is just one of my favorite memories but anyway you should show everything
Austin ! Welcome back man. Missed ya. Looks like the shop got a major tidy up 🤭 Yup remember using one back when I worked at the gas station in High School 73 - 75. Ours was old back then. Still worked great. Cheers ! 🍺🤛😎👍
Welcome back Brother!! Everyday I was on RUclips I was hoping and praying you were ok and waiting for you to come back. Nothing was complete until you got back. CANNOT wait until you get the vids rolling again! Thank You -Thank You!!
Have an evaporative cooler here. In 20+ years I've been through a handful of pumps and motors, and a couple coolers. That grinder's still rockin' after 70+ years. Imagine that :-)
Hey man welcome back from Australia. Still a mystery to me how you guys do winter over there. I’m in my mid 60s and I’ve never seen snow. Don’t ever want to either. Love your channel 😊😊😊
I'm always glad to view your videos. Great seeing you always bring old machines back to use. Keep sharing your videos. Looking forward to your next project.
Ran one of those when I was 12 yrs. Old. While starting my mechanical training. You might want to check the drive shaft and main bearings. This machine is all about precision grinding. Run a couple valves through it and see how accurate it is before doing any real valve grinding. Nice unit.
The old machine Dad had was B/D dry run and blk color also He bought it new and I still have it and use it It’s made to grind really small stem values for lawn mowers etc 😊
Nice grinders. The if you didn't know the v on the back side of the diamond wheel dresser is to lay the valve in and square the stem, or can set lash if you don't have adjustable lifters. Also if your doing a v8 flathead ford the pilot for the seat grinder is a special large one that locates down in the lifter bore as well as the bore where the guide goes in the block. Keep the vids coming!
Good too see you in defrost mode,i watched scotts speed shop do a similair revive on an antuige valve machine also.he uses it quite often from what he says.much faster than handlapping im certain.nice you was able to get ur hands also on one.i imagine two most valuable tools in ur shop is gas ake and a hoist maybe a welder during summer months.suppose thats a good guess wouldnt u say so!!!snookie pa.
Nice machine, man. Just got my old B&D Type FE going this past week to clean up the valve faces for my '58 AMC/Nash Flathead 6. So glad I bought that thing when I came across it a few years ago. I'm quite amazed by the major differences between the old England made unit I have and your USA made Type NWA. Yours definitely looks like a heavier duty machine, but I suspect it's about the same era having the "wings" nameplate as well. Not only are these old units real machines, they're functional shop art as well.
I have the same machine and did a total restoration on it. I have one problem. The collet which is a 1/4 to 3/8 size runs about .0015 to .0020 out. I can't seem to get that sorted out. I know Goodson makes a replacement. (shorter style) but it's a little on the expensive side, It's close to $300.00 with taxes and shipping. Is there a way to true this collet up so it will run correctly? If not, do you know anyone who might have one that they would sell? Thanks, Dave
I love antique tools!
Black and Decker built quality stuff back in the day!

Congrats on getting a working unit.
Brings back memories of my youth building engines.
Thanks for sharing.
nice to see your up n runnin.
We always used a emulsified oil and water mix that was back in the 1960s

When B&D made a quality product!
Just like I remembering using in High School shop class. Thanks!
Handy tool to have.
Good addition to your shop.
Thats a cool grinder! That is gonna be perfect for your flathead!
Always happy to see a new video from you. I like your channel and the great stuff you work on. Thanks 👍🇺🇸
Excellent video Austin. Really look forward to your postings.
Wow your becoming a one stop machine shop for yourself, cool😁👍👍
I would love a video on the process of grinding seats and valves. I have that exact valve grinding machine and I'd like another opinion on grinding valves and seats. Keep up the good work.

Right on! Welcome back fella 👍
It's good to have ya back, Gary
Sweet backyard, Alaska made a new video 💪🏻
I've found WD-40 is better than brake cleaner or carb. spray for removing old crud, it doesn't damage the paint!
Awesome set up. Looks good on that cart, made for it
Welcome back!
Look around for an old gas station or mechanic shop that might still have some stones or a machine needing rescued from the scrap dumpster. AL B.

Complete
My company has one just like that don't know why I work in the oilfield
I am trying to track down something similar for my garage. Hopefully I am as successful as you were.
Feed the algorithm!
