I bought my ticket, I'm going with my sister. We are old white ladies and we both have great respect for Anthony Mackie. He is a terrific guy. I understand what he was trying to say. He's right, kindness and goodness are not American traits, they are traits of a good human being, so is forgiveness and understanding that NO ONE is perfect. (I really hope we get a cameo with Bucky)
Anthony Mackie is a black man in America. That doesn't change because he's in a movie. Also, if America was this perfect place people imagine it to be, there would be no backlash over a black Captain America. I think what he said fits well. Black people have always loved and fought and died for a country that doesn't love us back. He's willing to fight for it in spite of that. For the idea of what America should be.
I'm sooooo tired of people coming after MCU actors right before a movie comes out. Superhero fatigue isn't real, its superhero fatigue fatigue that's real
Given Marvel's more recent track record, they should be deploying press people, to help these actors navigate their appearances. More and more, they have proven to say stupid s#@$. Marvel could help save themselves from their pending implosion.
He’s captain good guy. Captain morals. I agree with what you say he meant, but also agree that timing may have been better. Wrong time, but right place, Italians should be able to resonate with his character journey too
That wasn’t context. That was just part of his answer. It didn’t change the meaning of what he said. If the meaning were different, context of some kind would make this sound better, but when you watch the interview, it doesn’t. Did you hear him? When he says America, the tone and way he delivered the word there is obvious disgust in his voice!.
Cap doesn't represent the government rather core values, tho Anthony Mackie made it look like he was throwing shade at America. Could have been said in a better way to avoid controversy.
He said what he said, and he wasn't wrong. AMERICA would never let Captain America be black right now. He'd be called a DEI hire. Let's be real. No matter how qualified for the job he is. Captain America has always been for the people of the world 🌎 not just one nation.
Honestly, people all over the internet need to chill tf out. Just because he said that Cap doesn’t stand for America but for everyone, doesn’t mean what everyone is trying to make it seem.
I’m torn I do feel bad for how this is construed to Mackie. But his wording was really poor even with the alleged missing context. I still am gonna see this movie, but this does hurt my enthusiasm as somebody with multiple veterans in my family Captain America is meaningful and he represents American ideals which means he represents the best of America. I think how Mackie worded this was upsetting even with the context, but I also understand he’s human and I don’t think it was malicious or ill-intended.
@ to me that makes it worse. Not against Mackie, but because it was a bad idea and Mackie has to take the fall. If it was a PR script they really need to reevaluate the people making them at Marvel.
Did the veterans in your family vote for the draft dodger who sided with putin and Russia over USA in Helsinki and who tried to overthrow the results of an election on January 6th and then pardoned people who assaulted Capitol Police so we can gauge your American ideals on its true meaning?
I'm a veteran and I don't see any wrong in what he said veteran are citizens and we don't all 100% agree on certain goings on in our country but that's not what we fought for we don't always have to agree on what's important to us to do what we did, do and are going to do
This is why celebrities need to shut up about anything potentially polarizing. It doesn’t matter what side of any issue the actor is on, there will be a bloodthirsty group ready to pounce and exploit it for all they can. Brie Larson got herself in trouble for her comments too, which were much much worse and straightforward with what Mackie said. All he did was give ammunition to the haters and damage some of the box office potential. I’m sorry but what he did was wrong and foolish, especially this close to the release

I didn't take any offense to what Anthony initially said, and I've lived in America my entire life so far. If you look at the direction that the country has gone in over the last decade, his remarks actually kinda make sense. Let's be real here: anyone who thinks America is the best country in the world clearly hasn't been outside of it
As someone not from the US, who often disagrees with what “America” stands for, I’ve always loved Captain America as a character. I don’t think what he said is wrong, and I agree with it. But I also understand the patriots who maybe felt betrayed by his comments. Regardless I’m really excited for this film and watching on release
If Captain America was walking down a street in Europe and saw a bank robbery, I'm sure he wouldn't think "oh I'm Captain America, I only fight crime in America" and walk straight past. That's my take on what he said anyway. Maybe I'm missing the point 🤔.
I like Mackie. This was not a smart thing to say particularly in a time like this. For Disney and for the country. I don’t think it’s really going to affect the bottom line all that much but it’s just another trip up for Disney in a long line of them.
Mackie is right. Cap represents what America SHOULD be through his ideals, but he’s loyal to nothing besides the dream. Anthony fully gets it and I’m so glad he said this Mackie even clarified on his Instagram saying: “ Cap has universal characteristics that people all over the world can relate to.”
Honestly, with so many things the US government has done, a lot of people inside and outside of the US probably have mixed feelings about America right now, and I think that's healthy. The US has a lot of problems and too many Americans are blindly patriotic and refuse to acknowledge all the problems: racism, imperialism, one of the worst healthcare systems in the world, mass incarceration... Maybe it's smart to distance the brand from American jingoism.
Theres nothing I despise more than people who deliberately take things out of context, to abandon the truth for the sake of your own agenda is just foul, I hope Anthony's career isn't damaged by this nonsense that people are pushing about him I'm giving this film a chance
He should know what America means. Americans have the kind of freedoms no other nation has to offer . He should understand that’s what makes cap so special. What makes America so special. With all its flaws. The fact that he (and Disney ) doesn’t recognise that (or willingly ignore it) sucks.
I find it amusing that have people who called certain communities sensitive and unnecessarily outraged, yet they will become unhinged at the drop of a dime when the roles reversed.
This happens with media/social media all the time. A small clip gets released, and all of the context is not there. Then people take it and run with it instead of researching to see the context!! I'll be watching the movie Friday night! Already have tix bought!!
YALL EXAGGERATE, he simply meant what Captain AMERICA says and does is not directly equal to what “AMERICA” as a solo thing means. -> Even Cap America isn’t whole America and only American in actions People just really evolved into hurtful crybabys looking for the next fix of canceling something or someone

It's disgusting that people are intentionally trying to tank Marvel movies by delaying articles until just before the movie. Hopefully it will backfire, that this will get more people to go see the movie.
That is exactly how I took it as well. Captain America transcends national origin or ethnicity, and is relatable because he is such a good moral person.
I didnt hear anything about this until this video. I believe what Mackie said to be true. Captain America is American in these universes. We all just have to chill.
Chris Evans, in 2011, on what Captain America represents: “I'm not trying to get too lost in the American side of it. This isn't a flag waving movie. It is red, white and blue, but it just so happens that the character was created in America during war time, when there was a common enemy, even though it is Captain America. Adding a new comment to say that I have since found the video. I'm still not sure I agree with your take on it, but that's a separate thing.
@@Adam1984_ sorry, yes, I saw it a couple hours ago. Another channel actually had the video and played it also. I’ll see if I can find it. The channel that showed it said it was also possible that he was told to say that since it was in another country because Marvel wouldn’t want them to think they were favoring any specific groups. That was complete speculation though. It’s messy. We all have our opinions
I think his comments are being blown out of proportion. He was talking about people using imagination and being inspired. Which is not an American thing at all. It’s a human-kind thing.
Bro, this video is why I love your channel so much! Refreshing To hear somebody else feel the exact same way I do. No hate just trying to have fun and enjoy it!
I get what Mackie was trying to say. Captain America isn't just an American hero who just looks to protect America. He's a global hero who tries to the right injustice around the world. Peeps need to chill.
It's just bad people picking something apart until it's bad
If people would listen, with an attempt to understand and find growth for themselves, instead of deciding what they don't like about it, communication might actually get better... Mackie is inspiring, so glad he will carry the mantle, thanks Anthony!

I mean it’s obviously why this movie is getting so much hate.. ppl are saying Bucky should be cap.. Bucky, no matter how much innocent blood is on his hands, it’s better than having a black man.. smh😂

Cap has dropped the "America" before for these very reasons. It took me a long time to appreciate him as a character and not as a walking flag.
Thanks for the solid take, Mike. People get caught up over small things way too much. Mackie just wants Cap to be a universal role model beyond just the US
Captain America wasn’t worried about America when he was defending Wakanda. Or any other country.
he was fighting along side wakanda became they where the best defense against thanos. If wakanda fell the world would soon follow. He fights for the world especially in that moment

The title of Captain America is a symbol of hope and Cap is definitely universal

I hate the internet and I hate social media... In a world where 'Context is King" it's like the internet and social media is where context goes to die and "agenda filled" people grab on to every "context-less" sound bite and try to get good people cancelled or totally destroy their character, integrity, and good standing.
He said Captain America has nothing to do with America time to boycott and show Disney they're going to lose money
Dude, you're level headed. It's good to see/hear.

For me captain America stands for what this world should be (because this world should be fixed) and he chose America as an exemple of a country that needs to be fixed by a hero. He is a symbol, and if everyone in the world is like him, we might live in the perfect world.
Sounds like Anthony Mackie was making a bold and honest statement with a group of idiots

Guess I live under a rock this is the first time hearing about this. Appreciate your take on it. My favorite marvel character growing up and is still the HULK.
Why not ROM Space Knight
I bought my ticket, I'm going with my sister. We are old white ladies and we both have great respect for Anthony Mackie. He is a terrific guy. I understand what he was trying to say. He's right, kindness and goodness are not American traits, they are traits of a good human being, so is forgiveness and understanding that NO ONE is perfect. (I really hope we get a cameo with Bucky)
Sam Wilson:
🎵 I am a REAL American
Fight for the rights of every man 🎵 😀
He was in Italy promoting the movie
That quote is the most captain America thing Anthony could have said
Anthony Mackie is a black man in America.
Sam Wilson: “look at me, I’m the CAPTAIN now” 😀

He’s captain good guy. Captain morals. I agree with what you say he meant, but also agree that timing may have been better. Wrong time, but right place, Italians should be able to resonate with his character journey too
Cap in the comics has gone against the US many times based on ideals. I get what Anthony Mackie was trying to convey.
Thx for the updates. What he says after provides more context. He was saying cap is a man of character
He still worded it bad
That wasn’t context. That was just part of his answer. It didn’t change the meaning of what he said. Cap has never been a schill for the government. Read the comics or even watch the past movies like winter soldier 🤦🏽♂️
Cap doesn't represent the government rather core values, tho Anthony Mackie made it look like he was throwing shade at America. Could have been said in a better way to avoid controversy.
Correct but can you say for the past 8 years that America has been about the same values as cap upholds
Not really. He should throw all the shade at America rn, considering. America's falling so hard rn.
@@JayC2k08For the past 4 years, yes. The 4 before that? Nah. The 4 to come? Double nah.

Well said
Honestly, people all over the internet need to chill tf out.
Might even be PR script
@ to me that makes it worse. Not against Mackie, but because it was a bad idea and Mackie has to take the fall. If it was a PR script they really need to reevaluate the people making them at Marvel.
Did the veterans in your family vote for the draft dodger who sided with putin and Russia over USA in Helsinki and who tried to overthrow the results of an election on January 6th and then pardoned people who assaulted Capitol Police so we can gauge your American ideals on its true meaning?
I'm a veteran and I don't see any wrong in what he said veteran are citizens and we don't all 100% agree on certain goings on in our country but that's not what we fought for we don't always have to agree on what's important to us to do what we did, do and are going to do
I think Mackie just started talking and just kept talking without thinking. We all do this at times.
They intentionally dig up dirt prior to movie releases. Pay it no mind.
What dirt?

I think you have a great take on it.
Anthony used some poor placed words, but given his track record and his take on polarizing topics in the past I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I want this movie to be good. Even if the more I hear about it the more negative it gets.
I’m still going to the theater to see it. 🤞🏾🙏🏾🤞🏾
I didn't take any offense to what Anthony initially said, and I've lived in America my entire life so far. If you look at the direction that the country has gone in over the last decade, his remarks actually kinda make sense. Let's be real here: anyone who thinks America is the best country in the world clearly hasn't been outside of it
So many are rushing to come in here illegally though lol
People are really reaching hard to get Anthony Mackie out of the Captain America spotlight lol I pray this movie humbles all the naysayers
Couldn't of said it any better 💯 well said
OMG! (my man ain’t wrong though)…
I'm seeing Cap twice, same day. Going to the Fan event and then later with friends who couldn't make the fan event. Let's Go! 😊
I like Mackie. This was not a smart thing to say particularly in a time like this. For Disney and for the country. I don’t think it’s really going to affect the bottom line all that much but it’s just another trip up for Disney in a long line of them.
Given that Agent Orange Nightmare is currently president, I'm not surprised Anthony Mackie said this
Wow I'm still plan on seeing this
Same...just not in the theater lol
Mackie is right. Cap represents what America SHOULD be through his ideals, but he’s loyal to nothing besides the dream. Anthony fully gets it and I’m so glad he said this Mackie even clarified on his Instagram saying: “ Cap has universal characteristics that people all over the world can relate to.”
People are going to find reasons to complain and be up in arms no matter what. 🙃
These fan boys and "patriots" are the worst. They're why we can't have nice things.😒
Glad it was clarified and (hopefully) doesn't mess up the release.
He said nothing wrong.
Yes he did
Honestly, with so many things the US government has done, a lot of people inside and outside of the US probably have mixed feelings about America right now, and I think that's healthy. The US has a lot of problems and too many Americans are blindly patriotic and refuse to acknowledge all the problems: racism, imperialism, one of the worst healthcare systems in the world, mass incarceration... Maybe it's smart to distance the brand from American jingoism.
WTF is wrong with actors these days?! 🤦
You try then
Theres nothing I despise more than people who deliberately take things out of context, to abandon the truth for the sake of your own agenda is just foul, I hope Anthony's career isn't damaged by this nonsense that people are pushing about him
I'm giving this film a chance
Final nail in Disney coffin ❤. Make Marvel great again!
Let’s put Shawn Levy in charge of marvel
No
No thanks. MAGA sucks.
He should know what America means. Americans have the kind of freedoms no other nation has to offer . He should understand that’s what makes cap so special. What makes America so special. With all its flaws. The fact that he (and Disney ) doesn’t recognise that (or willingly ignore it) sucks.
You don’t know anything about the Captain America character. He represents ideas bigger .
I find it amusing that have people who called certain communities sensitive and unnecessarily outraged, yet they will become unhinged at the drop of a dime when the roles reversed.
We can’t sit around and act like america is an amazing country when the ppl in charge are actively trying to break anyone not rich
I’m going to see it multiple times as well & I’m super hyped 😊about it❗️ Haters 👿 are going to hate❗️
This happens with media/social media all the time. A small clip gets released, and all of the context is not there. Then people take it and run with it instead of researching to see the context!!
I'll be watching the movie Friday night! Already have tix bought!!
I belive captain America works wotld wide and is a very moral character that people all over the planet can get behind and agree with your take.
I know what he meant and I respect him for saying it.
YALL EXAGGERATE, he simply meant what Captain AMERICA says and does is not directly equal to what “AMERICA” as a solo thing means. -> Even Cap America isn’t whole America and only American in actions

I don't feel like you're trying to sell me anything. It just feels like actual, credible, and modern.... journalism (?). Dope stuff! This is what we need
I understood exactly what he said. This is the internet gone wild again.
Captain America is exactly that America. America, which is still a melting pot of many nationalities. I'm glad he said that.
Hi, I'm South African and im gonna watch this movie same as a lot of people around the world and him being a guy good will resonate with more people than him being American
Look at current day America... I'm fine with someone drawing a distinction like that at this point in our history.
The people who complain about this type of stuff were waiting on something to fuss about. You just gotta ignore them otherwise you empower them. Ignore the class clown and they'll realize how small they are and eventually they disappear. STOP FEEDING
It's disgusting that people are intentionally trying to tank Marvel movies by delaying articles until just before the movie. Hopefully it will backfire, that this will get more people to go see the movie.
America was for the Sokovia Accords.... so those complaining didn't watch civil war.
That is exactly how I took it as well. Captain America transcends national origin or ethnicity, and is relatable because he is such a good moral person.
Nah I haven't heard about it all. People are looking for any excuse to tear this movie down
I didnt hear anything about this until this video. I believe what Mackie said to be true. Captain America is American in these universes. We all just have to chill.
Chris Evans, in 2011, on what Captain America represents:
“I'm not trying to get too lost in the American side of it. This isn't a flag waving movie. It is red, white and blue, but it just so happens that the character was created in America during war time, when there was a common enemy, even though it is Captain America. I've said before in interviews, it feels more like he should just be called Captain Good.-
I agree. You have to be a perfect person in order not to offend anyone when you are public speaking. Especially marvel fans are ready to jump on anything related to offensive comments.
Gawd, the internet sucks….it doesn’t take much to understand what he was trying to say in the first place.
