So nice to find another homesteading RUclipsr from Ontario! We are in the southwestern part. I found your video looking for ways to keep carrots long term after our first good year of growing carrots. We are in clay so never had luck before, but raised beds have made all the difference. Thanks for sharing this helpful info. Subbed to your channel to follow along. 😊 ~ Cindy
Nice video and good morning. The way things are going people needs to be storing all the stuff they can. Take care and have a blessed day and I'll see you on your next video.
Good morning Billy...Happy Sunday to you! I agree...things are just a little scary right now with everything going on in the world! Taking steps to prepare and store food is very important (if you have the space). Thank you for watching and I hope you have a lovely day! 😊
Carrots need that cool weather to grow long. That’s why those that were planted in may are long and those planted in august are shorter. I’ve made that mistake.
Hi Alana great video again, your carrots 🥕 look awesome, we haven't had to store our carrots the weather is never that bad here lately, I've left mine in the garden all winter and have just finished digging them, hope you have a good week and stay safe.
Good morning Kelvin...Happy Sunday! Thank you very much! I bet your garden carrots are super sweet having been left in their original soil all winter long...that would be very lovely! I'm glad you have been having favourable weather there...we have a blizzard going on right now! Take care and have a wonderful day! 😊
Good morning Wendy! Thank you very much for watching and for your kind message! It was really lovely meeting you...I hope you have a wonderful day, take care! 😊
@canadiana0982 Hi there! You can Google a growing zone map for your Province and it will tell you for your area. I looked and it says Austin, Manitoba is growing zone 3b. I hope that helps! Have a great day! 😊🌻
Good morning! We don't reuse the sand each year for carrot storage, we get fresh stuff as it is quite inexpensive for us to buy here...it costs us about $10 a year. We keep the old sand and use it for dust baths for our pheasants or we toss some of it in the gardens. Thank you for watching and have a great day! 😊
@Carmen-EnergyInMotion Hi there! We haven't tried them stored in sand as we cure our potatoes, then put them in our root cellar in a single layer in wooden boxes made from pine skids. I have read that you can store them in sand but haven't tried it ourselves. We have tried storing beets and turnips this way, and they did last a long time, so I'm sure potatoes would be the same. I hope that helps...thank you for watching and have a great night! 😊
Another thing you can do with those carrots is take any leftover ones and plant them back in the garden, they will regrow and form seed umbles which you can save in the fall.
Planning ahead for what to do with your carrot harvest!

Can this method be used with radishes?
Hi Remi! I think it can be used for radishes...I haven't tried it but read somewhere that it can be done and works pretty well too!
@@alanacawker-therusticwife I knew about carrots but never seen it done. Thanks for sharing
@@RemsFamily you're welcome! I will try it with beets and turnips this year too! 😊

Hi there! Thank you for watching and for the great tip!
But if you have Queen Anne's Lace within a half km or more, you need to protect the umbrels from cross pollination,.
