Most Baroque and earlier music for keyboard often did not specify which instrument was intended, so the music could be played on harpsichord, clavichord, or even organ. Therefore it is fitting and proper that the great master Sweelinck be performed on the modern piano. I am sure he would have approved of the instrument, and he surely would have also approved these excellent performances of his keyboard pieces.

I must confess, the only reason I knew about Sweelinck was because his portrait was on the Dutch bank note of 25 guilders until it was replaced by the modern 25 guilders note later (even long before the Euro took over). But since I did hear soon enough he was a musician and composer I've been wondering about his work for years, and I only began recently to look up his work.
Thank you! And the painting is a masterpiece too - this realism, one almost stumbles over the wheelbarrow, and dogs chasing each other in the huge space of the church seems like the most natural thing on a sunny morning in the 17th century
