So actually Varka was supposed to be the hero of Mondstadt, but because he saw the fate of disaster, he decided to go on an expedition to Nod Krai, and his role as a hero was taken over by the traveler.
Yepp, and i also took note that in the version of the story where he's the hero, dvalin is still at the clutches of the abyss order. Because varka can't cure abyssal corruption like the traveler can, a nice little detail

Exactly. When Barbeloth said “maybe you underestimate him” it’s not due to strength or heroics, Nicole already saw him as the rightful hero of Tevyat, it’s about humility. The fact he gave up his dream.

@eth_010 To be fair, Varka sacrificing his dreams IS doing something. 🧍🏼♀️👀 And killing the Doctor was a team effort. Varka helped Nicole and Alercchino bring down the fricking moon, which permanently changes the story and the map when you look up at the sky. Plus, the Hexenzirkel saw Varka’s original fate as the hero, and still treat him like a hero. Example: Nicole came to Nod-Krai to help Varka, not Traveller. They discussed Varka. They owe favors to Varka. Not Traveller. Etc.

So, if Varka hadn't embarked on the expedition, an alternate version of the mondstadt prologue would play out.. it's interesting that the traveller wasn't there..
Most interesting is that the traveler brought the perfect ending where the dragon was never sealed but freed, like the god of freedom wanted

Well at last the result come out quite good. he can still fight a dragon though if he talks to Venti.
bad ending: Varka will be the hero but dvalin sealed away because of abyss and the wild hunt will invade Mondstadt.
good ending: Traveler will be the hero saving dvalin from abyss influence and Varka will go to Nod-Krai to stop the wild hunt spreading to Mondstadt

@isabellereeyn Why? He's already the Grandmaster, so a hero for all the knights and half the Mondstadt. Dvalin and Boreas are 2 out of the 4 winds, so as the knight of Boreas it's also logical Varka wouldn't want to wound Dvalin and just leave them sealed away while bleeding out and still being corrupted by the Abyss. It would not resolve anything, actually. If anything, it makes me question why the witches are clinging to the hero title so much when they also know Dvalin would have likely died from the wound and become another corrupted Durin above Mondstadt.
cause the traveler was never guaranteed to happen they are beyond fate so no fate can have them in it. Without traveler his choice was basically “defeat Davlin become hero then fight the wild hunt” or “go fight the wild hunt and maybe reduce casualties but now he’s not a hero and is just mid” I would say it should sound like an easy choice but i know many people who would have chose to be a hero cause well “the wild hunt is coming anyway”

Think about it, the Traveler started their journey barely able to hurt a slime, and needed the help of Jean and Diluc, aswell as Venti
(Jean is super strong, Diluc in his prime was terrifying and Venti is the anemo god)
Years can change many things, both the Traveler and Varka have gained lots of experience in their relevant fields
We also see Varka solo the chess pieces weekly boss and that is pretty insane to do alone, he deserves more credit

Varka is the real deal. He’s not the type of leader who just sits comfortably behind a desk and barks orders at his subordinates. He’s a true knight who leads from the front, taking the fight directly to the battlefield. He’s always out there, getting his hands dirty alongside his people. That’s what makes him such a respected Grandmaster-he’s a powerhouse leader who actually walks the talk🔥🔥

@phanesisaliveLook more carefully. The animation literally says they couldn’t cleanse the Abyss from Dvalin. Without the Traveler, Dvalin would’ve been sealed. Don’t tell me you didn’t know the Traveler can absorb the Abyss.
@WoWaste I'm telling you a fact from the AQ, Venti cleared Dvalin there without a problem. It was Venti all three times; the Traveler only helped along with our entire team finish off the last wound in the final battle. Before this, he only helped with the lyre, which turned out to be useless. I believe that Venti couldn't help Dvalin here because it was too late and the abyss had already merged with Dvalin, so Venti would only make things worse
@phanesisaliveDon’t even try to argue lore with me - I’m definitely more familiar with it than you are. The Traveler absorbed the Abyssal corruption from Dvalin’s tear and used it on the Holy Lyre der Himmel, which is exactly why they were able to summon Dvalin at Starsnatch Cliff. Later, in Stormterror’s Lair, the Traveler helped defeat Dvalin and absorbed the Abyss again. I genuinely don’t understand how you people keep insisting the Traveler “didn’t do anything.”
And believing “Venti could’ve totally done this or that” is meaningless. It’s literally written in the story that he couldn’t cleanse the Abyssal corruption. Are you going to pretend you didn’t see it? In this timeline shown in the animation, the Traveler wasn’t there - if Venti really could’ve purified it alone, then why was Dvalin still being eroded?
If you're going to argue, bring actual evidence instead of relying on “I believe he could’ve done it.”

Finally Varka becomes my favorite male character since the game release (it was Diluc before). This guy is funny and aura farming at the same time. I also love seeing witches chitchatting each other. Love this animated short. 🙌🏻
