Great info video. I think Apex learned a thing or two as well. So you were able to pull the Apex housing apart and transfer the “guts” into the original alternator housing? Genius! One good thing is where the unit is mounted on the 392, you didn’t have to dig deep to get to it. 👍
Hola Marco, sorry to hear about the alternator. I’m glad you were able to resolve and install a new one. I have the 2021 JLUR with V6 Etorque but it has no alternator, it just uses a little motor instead to charge my Optima Yellow-top battery. Thanks for the informative vid. Good to know for when god blesses me with a 392 one day. Safe travels amigo! -Ryan
Just realized you also mentioned it's running consistently at 14.4 volts? The JL's generally have fluctuating voltage due to our "smart" charging systems. Is there something different with the 392 vs all other JL's in terms of charging circuit? Again, just curious?.
Marco, thank you for the share, I’ve been debating on the alternator upgrade why I’m not is upgraded with you with power options last year. I had an issue which I think was alternator related. Keep up the great work.
Marco! Thanks for the vid and the info 👍 I was just at Jerry's shop earlier in the week getting some exhaust work done on our JK and I know where your new serpentine belt is 😅😅😅 Jerry wouldn't let me hold it hostage so I could get a chance to shake your hand. 😅😅😅😅 Be safe buddy! Jim S.
So I guess by going to this alternator it no longer has a "smart alternator"?! That's actually a great thing and if that is the case no way will I go with an oem replacement when mine inevitably fails.
Marco, great story but very confusing based on how are JL charging systems is "supposed" to work, or at least as we've all seen. You mentioned all the load you have with multiple batteries, but correct me if I'm wrong. We're unable to connect "other" batteries to our system like in the old days hence the reason for using systems like red-arc etc... That said, since the systems are DC-DC charging and there's a separate system i.e. Red Arc then you're alternator should never see anything other that what the overall (fluctuating) charging load is. Not sure if you were implying that the extra loads caused the alternator to go bad or ?? Seems odd because the Red Arc (if functioning correctly) would never let your alternator overload (in theory). Just curious?
Well the RedArc system went in safe mode when this happened. Same thing happened with the trailer’s Redvision system, I did noticed in Baja that trailer was not charging. I think the alternator was giving up since December
Get a serpentine belt tool I just recently bought the Icon one from harbor freight haven’t used it yet but right now it’s under $100 as I type this comment. And maybe buy a second one to keep in the Jeep plus one at home
Alternators/electrical can be a strange thing. I had a new 1986 Nissan PU back in the day. I had the stock OEM alternator gp out under warranty. Had a new OEM alternator installed. It lasted a month. Then had a 3rd OEM alternator installed and it went to 275,000 miles;.

I sent to them the original unit and Apex did the transplant! 😁
Great job Marco. I am glad you got your Jeep fixed up.
Yes, thank you
Great video 🙌
Glad you liked it!
Great instructional video and really appreciated showing the issues and how they got resolved.
Glad it helped!
Great video. I’ll check out that alternator. Valuable info!!
Great video, informative and displays all your various talents!
Thank you kindly!
Great video Marco! I was looking forward to hearing about your experience with Apex and how everything went.
Thank you! Soon I’ll be doing the second part which is the wiring upgrade
Glad you got it fixed! Thanks for the video!
Glad to help

Thanks, you too!
Thanks for the information and posting the video.
You bet
Glad everything worked out!!
Yes! Thank you!
Great job and thanks for the video and information brother.
You bet!

Same smart alternator as JL’s! The upgraded one is not a smart alternator
Good info especially if I ever run into this with my future 392!
Right on!
Good call on the upgrade. I failed to order the dual altenator setup on my Power Wagon and really wish that I had now.
Thank you

Huge power needs - High current alt !
Indeed! Now, a Big3 kit
Good Job Marco
Thank you
Awesome Marco
I just ordered the 410amp alternator from Apex. Mine failed on my 2021 JLU ecodeisel.
Awesome! You'll be happy
Auto parts are ridiculously expensive regardless good job Marco
Yes! Thank you
Marco!
Thanks for the vid and the info 👍

LOL! I need to go pickup my serpentine!
Question
Are you using the factory output cable on the alternator? Same gauge?
Waiting for a Big3 kit!
So with the new alternator putting out more power did you up size any of the wiring?
Just ordered a Big3 kit for that!
Marco: Mo powa bahbee!

Correct!!
Saludos Marco...my buddy saw you at Anza last weekend...you make a video?
Yes I do! Working on it!

@@OVRLNDX Ahh. That makes sense. Thanks for the reply. I'll be monitoring mine closely.
How many miles are on the 392 now?
55k !
So the alternator was fine you just put too much load on it with the four batteries you mentioned if not the fifth auto/stop battery.
I believe it went bad because of that. Fortunately the 392 doesn't have that aux battery nor the on/off system
Dag gone.... now I found something to drop money on..😂
LOL!

Awesome! Thank you for the tip!
It’s TOO early for an alternator to fail. Very disappointing.
I agree.
