MY FAVORITE ABBA SONG!!! It's a masterpiece, it's so complex in its production but still so catchy. I honestly think it's the best song they ever made.

Dancing Queen is their best song and I say this with zero bias since I'm into grunge, punk and alt rock. Mama Mia, I Have a Dream and Winner Takes it All are also their top songs.

The best band ever and a smorgasboard of four huge talents. Vocally nobody can move me more than Agnetha or Frida with their unique voices, equally as impressive singing solo or in unison creating ABBA's 3rd voice. Never understood why The Name Of The Game only made Number 1 in the UK. The complexities of the harmonies, arrangement and production was a massive leap forward from anything they'd done previously. Even more impressively, they carried on progressing all the way through their 10 year career, into their solo careers, and back in 2021 with Voyage.

This one was filmed in Agnetha's house.I like your references on The Mamas and Papas(in a way Abba's ancestors).I am a fan of both bands since my uncle presented them to me same way i suggested him Abba.Michelle and Cass were '60s best female harmonizers as Abba followed with Frida and Agnetha in the '70s.Still can't think of any other band having 2 female voices matching these harmonies that good and producing such a unique sound.TNOTG is such a complex song.In a recent music documentary there was a section titled 'The Stockholm syndrome' explaining how Swedish outsiders songwritters gradually conquered the music scene from Abba ending to Max Martin's hit machine. One of MM's female back up singers and mates refered to this song's complex construction and how it was kind of used as a 'tutorial inspiration' to their future music recordings also praising Frida's and Agnetha's magnificent technical abilities and vocal coexistence.Btw if you live in the UK do a favour yourself and watch ABBA's massively appealing VOYAGE gigs. You'll get in the mood and feel them better. You won't believe your eyes and ears.I read in NY Vulture site( published 11th October '22) stating that since late May's premier, tickets sold have reached the phenomenal number of 650,000 up to now!!Thank you again for Abba, man!

how nice to see you at the weekend
and with an extraordinary song by ABBA, which has many peculiarities:
    1) I think it's the first in which each of the girls sings a verse as lead voice
    2) the video was recorded at the blonde Agnetha & blonde Björn's home, because Agnetha was very late in her second pregnancy (that's why maybe she's sitting and cared for in the picture)
    3) "The name of the game" was released in October 1977, two month before "ABBA The Album" and the movie "ABBA The Movie"
It was a bold gamble from ABBA, it opened their horizons and spread beyond pop.
I think that "The name of the game" (1977)
have some vibs of influences of BEATLES songs like "Penny Lane" or "Fool on the hill" (1967)
curiosly, "The name of the game" was #1 in UK (4 weeks) and replaced in the #1 for "Mull of Kintyre" by Paul McCartney
    "The name of the game"
is in my opinion a masterpiece
one of the Seven Wonders of ABBA (in chronological order):
    Waterloo
    S.O.S
    Dancing Queen
    The name of the game
    Chiquitita
    The winner takes it all
    Don't shut me down
(you could choose each one of these to react)
You have fantastic songs in "The Album" (1977) to react, ABBA's most versatile album:
    "Eagle" almost 6 minutes amazing
Take a chance on me (the banger hit)
"One man one woman" (beauty ballad)
    "Move on" (fantástic chorus)
"Hole in your soul" (powerful rock)
included a mini musical from 1977 Tour:
"Thank you for the music" (ABBA hymn)
    "I wonder" (dramatic ballad)
    "I'm a marionette" (progresive rock)
Specialy comment about "The name of the game"
now in October was the 45th anniversary of the released in UK as a single, that was #1 only in UK
and next Monday was released as a new official lyric video by ABBA
Specialy comment of the blonde Agnetha
if you like to see Agnetha as leads voice in ABBA:
    S.O.S. (1975)
    My love my life (1976)
Thank you for the music (1977)
    Chiquitita (1979)
The winner takes it all (1980)
I hope to see you in more ABBA videos
    A big hug from
    Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷
    South America
PS: at the time of the official video (1977)
the blonde singer Agnetha and the guitarist Björn was married since 1971, with one child in 1973 and in pregnancy of their second child
(the only official video with Her pregnant)
the brunette singer Frida and the bearded keyboardist Benny was engaged and living together since 1969 and married next year 1978

ABBA's 'velvet kinky beat'.. ahh!....You were quite right on your observation to the 'Californian sound'.When they were heading for the recording sessions of1977's ''THE ALBUM' they were influenced by that but on the state this sound existed in the '70s in the USA.They had moved away from the earcandy purity of the previous album 'ARRIVAL' and went more adult and Progressive art- pop/rock as well as to more sophisticated story telling lyrics. Some tracks off this album are even more indicative of this progression such as the majestic opener EAGLE.(I see you are quite attracted to Agnetha.Yes many could very easily fall for her.)Both girs had such an expressive face and irresistable charm, same way their music had.

Note they are playing "Ludo". The aim of this game is to get to the center before everyone else. - And to push as many of your co-players off the board on your way to the goal.

Thank you for your great reaction to this song! It's great to see your growing interest in ABBA. I love Agnetha too! I agree, she has beautiful eyes, beautiful face, beautiful hair and that voice, wow! Her harmony with Frida is in a class of its own. ABBA is a really great band.

You need to do The Winner Takes It All & compare the way the 4 of them are around the table. Agnetha & Bjorn's marriage had just broken down & this was written. I'd love to what Benny said to get Frida to laugh!!!

One of the coolest things about ABBA,is that at the beginning, the women didn't speak or understand English(at least not well),so Benny and Bjorn were composing songs for two women's superlative instruments, with phonetic as well as tonal and rhythmic notes, which,in studio and later on stage, would be presented with symphonic accuracy.

I know a lot people regard the Beatles as the best band ever but I digress, ABBA was something special and in my opinion, are better than the Beatles. I said it!

Agnetha is very beautiful but I have always considered Frida as the true beauty. Also she has better solo songs. But Abba was like the name of the band. Each brought something to Abba. There should not be any order.

Yes Agnetha the most popular member of Abba. In 2022 Anni-frid said she was a bit in her shadow during their career. She was right. Agnetha was the pearl in Abba! Long live the Queen of pop before Madonna :-)

@M.Menneke Yet Frida was lead vocalist on more UK number 1’s and songs with her as lead vocalist were more commercially successful (Fernando, Knowing Me, Knowing You and Supertrouper). Fernando is the 2nd bestselling single worldwide after Dancing Queen. They are all ABBA songs though, so the contribution of all 4 members is what gave them their success and made them sound so great. Both ladies are phenomenally talented, flawless artists in their own right, both have amazing voices that are works of art on their own but in combination, along with Benny and Bjorn they create a magic that can’t be replicated. I am so sick and tired reading comments from you that are either derogatory to Frida or minimise her role in ABBA’s success. The combination of the talents of all 4 is what makes the ABBA sound, all are equally vital. Agnetha would hate you, she termed people like you “sweaty, obsessive fans” in her book

@@lounolastname4477 In Germany there were also more no. 1 hits with Frida in lead vocals (4) than with Agnetha (2). But I have read that Fernando is their best selling single with more pieces sold than Dancing Queen. I completely agree to the rest of your comment.
