  • @robchuk4136
    @robchuk4136 Год назад +2

    Fun fact: the laser hallway sequence was so popular they actually incorporated it into a certain RE game...
    Anyway, my backstory with this film was: Based on the trailers, I had 0 faith in this adaptation, lol. We're talking about a decade of bad videogame movies, and now they've gone full Matrix and don't even want to use the main characters?? Oh, it took strong word of mouth to get us to finally rent it when it came on DVD. And...I kinda liked it! I'm a stickler for accuracy, but this was the first time it didn't really matter, because it still had a lot of cool ideas. And that tough chick from The Fast and the Furious was in it, which I loved the year before. I now proudly own Resident Evil and its in my Top 5 Videogame Movies. For me that's a big deal, since it isn't very faithful. There were a few nods, and the ending tease is a banger, but the closest the film gets to truly *feeling* like the RE atmosphere, is when Alice is roaming the eerie mansion for a minute before the commandos arrive.

    This movie made me fall asleep while I was watching it. I love the second film only because Jill and Nemesis make an appearance. I hate how Hollywood ignore the SD Perry Book in order to make a good screenplay for the Resident Evil movie. I wish someday they adapt the novels to the big screen.

  • @mrnekomaneki01

    I love this movie. And while we know that the later ones get a bit not at good you do get those characters you wanted from the video games. And the task force captain just recently died so it's pretty timely when this video came out.
    And I don't know if anyone said it before but I think the zombies appearance makes sense. They hadn't been dead for that long so decay hadn't really had a chance to kick in. This is also an office where most of the workers died via gas or drowning so it makes sense they wouldn't have huge gory wounds or chunks taken out of them.
    I need to go watch this one again because when My friends and I saw it in theaters we accepted it at the time as lore. Like there is another mansion on top of a way more impressive lab our heroes just didn't see that one. I mean the labs in RE2 kind of look like it a bit so it didn't seem out of place.
    I dunno I just kind of mark out for this movie.

    I can’t tell you the last time I watched this movie, but I can tell you about the first. It was on HBO or something one night, and I came across the scene with the laser hallway. When the guy got sliced by the grid I was like “damn I need to know what this is” and was surprised when I figured out it was Resident Evil haha. My only knowledge of the franchise was brief interactions with the first game, so I basically knew zombies, mansions, and dogs. Laser hallways weren’t what I would have expected.

    I honestly loved this movie, still do. And the reason is because it's different to the game. Resident Evil the game always felt cinematic for me anyway, and as the Netflix movie proves, you can't skip important story stuff and slap the cool bits on screen cause it's just gonna be a dumpster fire. I like that they did something different with this movie, cause you don't know what's going to happen! I loved last of us, but I knew what was gonna happen, there was nothing in that show that surprised me (except the amazing episode 3). Games have something movies don't, time. The first game had a speed run target of three hours. You can't do that with film, it'd be boring. You also can't bring those cool moments like finding the itchy tasty note and reading it for the first time (again, see the Netflix movie...). Anyway, loved it, love this (I'm having fun, Ian!) I loved the outbreak cause here more than that crazy opera singing sephiroth look-alike in 0. And that Matt being Nemesis and the ending is amazing.
    The only thing that I don't like is the use of rock music during action sequences. If they had used some horror or intense music like re3's music. It would have been an easy 10/10 for me.

We all know that when it comes to movie games they don't always go by lore of the game, but try to make it the best movie possible. Another awesome video Ian, I'd love to see a retrospective of the series of movies, but the original will always stand out as the best. I never panned it as not being RE, as it is RE at it's core and adds to the universe rather than just recreating it. We saw them try that later in the series and in Welcome To Raccoon City; which never quite worked. Stick to an original story and tie in connections along the way.
    The zombies not being that gross looking, I think they did that because they just died recently. And they weren't turned by another zombie eating them, so their bodies would look pretty normal albeit pale. Just my 2 cents. :)

  • @Caspian07
    @Caspian07 Год назад

    I’m sure you already know this but there were earlier drafts of this movie that leaned into the Alice in Wonderland references a lot more culminating in Alice waking up at the end not knowing what was a dream and what was real for the sequel. Alice being the name of a starring character, the white rabbit getting tested on and the waking up scenes are all that made it into the final script.
    The Romero one certainly sounds good as it was based on the Arkley Mansion incident from the first game and he watched someone play through it twice but it did have some strange things in it. Weskers heartbeat was supposed to be connected to a device controlling bombs so if he dies the whole mansion go up with him. Ada Wong shows up even though it’s only supposed to be the first game. There was a bizarre romance between Jill and Chris for some reason. Leon wasn’t even a cop at all… he was a farmer… yeah.
    The ending they used that said “The Dead Walk” as the newspaper headline from Dawn of the Dead seemed sort of disrespectful since they fired Romero from the project because his script wasn’t good enough but then they used it anyway.
    I like the movie fine but just some random tidbits of stuff I’ve picked up.
    P.s. The lasers sucked. What we’re they thinking!? Lasers in Resident Evil!? Don’t you just love all the lasers in the RE games? What would the first 3 games have been without lasers!? lol

    You forgot a side note...the amazing soundtrack to the movie, but as I imagine you couldn't include any of the great songs due to copyright stuff, I still think including the soundtrack would have been a nice little extra. Btw been loving GM Showdown. Quick random.closing question, what video did u upload explaining bathroom money Tim mewers iconic nickname as I was trying to tell a friend the lore behind it and laughing

      I mention the score in detail! If you mean the CD soundtrack that had Slipknot and whatnot, yea, it’s a bummer. It would be nice to play some of that (and even the score!) but RUclips is so strict, it’s asking for trouble, sadly. Glad you’re liking GM Showdown! And oh man I don’t remember the Bathroom Money story video, I’ve told it so many times, I can’t remember, hahaha

And if I remember the story about Tim he found money in ur bathroom that u left and he was like oh hey bathroom money is just as good as any money or something lol. But hey it's hella cool to see u on "camera" more man. I remember back in the day u saying it wasn't your thing but your really growing into your own with it man. Hard to take steps outside the comfort level zone ,trust me when I say that as I have dinner with in laws lol. Btw I've asked before but never got an answer to it how long have you had your beanie and how long is your hair now? I asked about the beanie awhile back as I've had one since highschool so that's almost 20 years and it's the same make as the one you wear as I grew my hair to my shoulders then. Anyway I really liked this scream sequence btw. Huge fan of the first movie just like the mk movie so thank you

    I'm gonna disagree with you on one point. In no way am I defending this movie because I still hate it, but I disagree with your assertion about the look of the zombies. This is a trope that has actually long bothered me in zombie films and games. They were mostly freshly dead and hadn't really done a whole lot, it makes sense that they'd have minimal effects. Most of them hadn't died in gruesome ways, so they wouldn't really need that. If this was more of the setting of Apocalypse where it had spread through the city and we're seeing weeks later, then yeah. But not here.

    • @ssaunders1122
      @ssaunders1122 Год назад

      I thought the same. Most of them was freshly dead and died of lack of oxygen from what I assumed was a fire suppression system that'd keep that data intact. So they wouldn't look that bad. Now the 2nd movie would be another story. But for what we saw here they was spot on.

    I know the Paul W. S. Anderson RE films get a lot of hate at times. I enjoyed watching most of the entire movie series. Alice was a cool character since she wasn’t in any of the games. Then we got Jill, Claire, Carlos, Nemesis, wesker and Chris and Leon. But Alice was the star. Nice retrospective Ian I really enjoyed it.

    The RE movies are my guilty pleasure. Sure, they have no link to the games, but I still have fun with it. Also, this is just theory, but I don't think Capcom cared who was making the RE movies or even the recent Netflix TV show. I think they told the Hollywood people "Give us money and you can do whatever you want with Resident Evil". They even sold their other properties like Monster Hunter to Paul W.S. Anderson and he made a crappy movie out of it without following the source material.

    As a fellow huge and longtime fan of the Resident Evil series, the way I look at the live action movies is this:
    As standalone horror/over the top action movies, they're great. Entertaining even- as long as you're not putting in too much thought into them.
    As faithful adaptations of the games to the sliver screen, these movies suck.
    All in all, the movies aren't bad...it's just that they're not Resident Evil films- at least in the eyes of hardcore fanatics. It's like the Terminator movies: you only acknowledge the first two movies as true canon, everything else is meh. Doesn't count.

    The first one was alright, it's not the best, but at least it was tame compared to the sequels, I mean, I like the different take of the R.E. movie and have Alice as a normal, not powerful, not a complete OP character, but instead l, what we have is a complete mockery of the Resident Evil franchise and have Alice as the main star and the main characters are nothing but side characters, a.k.a. Alice's Cheerleading Squad, and making the entire live action movie series a complete mess, and interesting enough, the hive was seen again in Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles, and also, that guy that was diced into a million pieces in the laser room also played Robinson in the 007 series as well.

    For the longest time, I hated this film. I’m sure many original game fans were. But over time I’m like, okay, it’s a sincere love letter. I do believe Anderson was a fan of the games. I reckon if he had a bigger budget, he would have had more stuff from the source material.
    I mean, Event Horizon is reason enough to think so.
    And yeah, I dog piled on Anderson. But I was an asshole. He’s a decent chap who’s lived the dream a lot of us would have liked; making art alongside people he loves. I wish him the best
