From trumpets and spirals to floral arrangements, single cell organisms take on many strange and unique shapes. But they don't look like that just for fun, their shapes can help them with movement, hunting, and even defending themselves.

Whoops! Forgot to change the end credits on this episode, but this one is obviously hosted by our writer Deboki Chakravarti
It was Hank doing an accent.
You should get James to narrate an episode for fun one day, even if it's just a casual episode.
Deboki is such a cool name
Hank!
Revise It Then
That bacillaria colony is insane. Like a shape-shifting alien starship
ruclips.net/video/Nysdq_plUTg/видео.html 🙂
looks almost mechanical...wild
Maybe they'd form an organism eventually. After all, didn't the Plant Cell originate from two single cellular organisms that stuck together due to mutual benefits?
erm
Especially with that galactic backdrop
Idk why but watching this channel has helped me with my germophobia in real life.
Lol you'd be the first woman I've ever known with germophobia
(Western woman, that is)
Weird reply lol
You can get a basic monocular microscope used on ebay for 20-30$. For that price they are still incredibly useful and perfect for beginners.
Ooof, after seeing the spirochete, I'm actually now even more terrified. I don't want anything to bore itself into my organs 😨
It is surprisingly quite inexpensive to get into this as a hobby.
Also, If you are seeing someone for your problem don't fail to mention this as, who knows, it may be of help to others as well!
This show never ceases to amaze!
one of the best episodes
1:57 TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!!!
I love a tardigrade
Where is Hank?
I need a more sultry cadence to tell me about microbes. That’s how I learn
Sorry but I disagree, she does not have a great reading voice. Where's the feeling? Where's the inflection? Normal ups and downs and different tones and levels in a great reading voice
Hmmmmmmmmmmm different voice. Changes bad }:^[
But more seriously, you wrote the lines, of course you say them well! I'm sure I can get used to this.
From this day forward, I will correct anyone who calls me 'doughy', and let them know I've evolved to perfectly fit the shape of my chair.
So technically you're a shape shifter?
@@SnowyButterfly1 *New message* Channel: Journey to The Microcosmos
Re: New Message
Thank you Deboki! Wonderful video!
When you asked us what we would draw if asked to draw a cell, I laughed, because I've been asked just that...and ended up drawing a plant cell, because its shape and structure were the only ones I recalled from middle-school biology!
I've learned so very much more, watching this channel - and it remains endlessly fascinating and beautiful.
So thank you once more, to ALL of you, for bringing us such wonder
2:40 was this what Plankton from Spongebob was based on?
Very likely. A lot of copepods are planktonic.
It looks like robot plankton
Probably. That show was created by a marine biologist and has a few easter eggs like that.
Yes, he was based on a copepod. Stephen Hillenburg created his characters as a marine biologist in the 80s for his students at the Ocean Institute in CA called "The Intertidal Zone" featuring Bob the Sponge as the comic's narrator.
Yep
I like Deboki as a narrator, but she feels too... fast I guess, compared to Hank's usual style of narration.
Also the music of this episode felt too energetic, and set of an uncomfortable feeling, which probably didn't help the narrator.
Also felt like surface descriptions and light anecdotes rather than anything informative. But I suppose they appeal to the broadest audience.
Now I can't stop thinking about the pace of narration. For me it was the excessive upward inflection. Bet you won't be able to ignore it now.
omg the one at 2:38 wants your burger recipe
Underrated
It's so wierd to not hear Hank's soothing voice.
Yes. No one can replace him
Her voice is soothing too
While I found the last episode much more stressed-sounding, this one is very nicely relaxed and it seems she got more comfortable with recording. I'm happy to listen even though Hank might be even more calming.
It's jarring to me because it's the same style of writing and even the same cadence and pauses as he would use but it's a completely different voice it even has the same pauses and timing
@@horsetuna thats because the new host is actually the writer who has been writing the scripts Hank reads all along...Its a bit trippy realizing that this is how the script was imagined by the writer, because I also imagined where Hank would have paused for emphasis or stressed a word and feel like thats how it "should" be... Wild!
I think the shapes of organisms in the microcosmos are like the cover of a book. You can only truly appreciate it once looking inside. Beautifully done! 😊
I like how I get Thermofisher ads for lab machinery when I watch this channel.
I envy you. I got a toilet paper ad this time. I used to get that sort of ad more often.
I also haven't been googling related stuff enough and surfing the web to read more detailed information. It is clearly time for me to learn more about ultracentrifuges and XYZ stages with sub-micron positioning accuracy.
Good job, Deboki! It sounds like you're getting more comfortable as a narrator in this one. I think having the more upbeat music and a slightly quicker pace really helped to match your style better, too.
Suggestion: talk a little bit about Archaea, one of the three Domains of life. Talk a little bit about their characteristics, and, if it is possible, show some of them. There may be visible differences between them and the Bacteria Domain. The problem is that very few programmes talk about them.
And, if there could be more episodes focused on prokaryotes (bacteria, archaebacteria and cyanobacteria), it would be enjoyable as well.
She has a great voice, but I wish she would add that little whisper to keep the same vibe. Geez, I feel for her, Green is a tough act of follow. He had the advantage of familiarity.
Yeah pretty much
It's not as soft as Hanks voice :(
But yes her voice ain't bad in any way, just a strong contrast to the usual wispering
Yeah, I have to agree. Nothing wrong with her voice, but this isn't Bizarre Beasts. Also, they don't seem to use the same music for her as for Hank. Maybe intentionally, but the music also helps set the tone.
Imo her voice was fine, just the end-of-sentence grating dropoff was constantly interrupting and losing words to the point where I had to rewatch bits
@@typhoonfire8 I disagree. Her voice is nice. Hank softens his voice for these videos. For whatever reason, they have chosen to keep her upbeat voice and more upbeat music. I wish they would tone it down though and keep with the vibe of the show.
Hank dropped the mic.
There has never been a creature that should carry the tile "animalcule" more than the tardigrade.
Are there any crazy journey to microcosmos posters to get ?
While admittedly, I spend WAY too much time on youtube, you are my favorite!
Wow, the color balance and contrasts on these new videos are so aesthetically pleasing.
I make videos of microscopic beings.
I’m jealous of the knowledge and videos kids today literally have at their fingertips. This is so fascinating!
Don't care for the narration AT ALL on this one. Vocal fry is very irritating to *most* ears.
Vocal fry and uptalk is what keeps me from watching. I wish people would stop that. It's frustrating. Made it to 01:07 but had to turn it off by then.
Much better narration than the first attempt
You slowed it down
Thanks
That Batfish resents being called out
Also your name sounds like tteobokki
Deboki, you're amazing and your voice is absolutely soothing to no end. I could listen to you talk about dog and Michelin Man hybrids all day...
Those cyanobacteria at 5:40 look like if H.P. Lovecraft made a seeing-eye picture
Also comments for the algorithm.
1:22 Batfish would make an awesome fantasy monster.
Any time someone asks me about intermediate fossils, I'll just show them this batfish.
I am not trying to be rude, but I would like if the narration was slowed down a bit. I really like how hank's narration is very calm and relaxing, so deboki's enthusiasm changed a bit how the video flows for me.
Keep up the good work deboki! I like your narration overall, I would just like if the pace got a slowed down!
There is a button to slow down the video
Random question RE Merismopedia; how do we know they make flat colonies instead of colonies that flatten on a slide?
Tardigrades are cute af
gram positive bacteria are thicc
2:32 on his way to steal crabby patty recipe
The quality of the image given by the microscopes shown here is SO high. Everything looks crystal clear!
I envy you!!
7:40 Lost footage from 2001!
Gram-positive bacteria, in contrast... I see what you did there!!
You are always asking us to give suggestions on what we want tosee: Chert fromCanada that has the oldest known fossils from 2 billion years ago of nano cells. Eukaryotes.
Loved this episode! Thanks deboki
i was just binge watching the videos from this channel, and then this video came out
I still prefer the Hank's voice... it is more soothing and alot less high pitched
Tardigrades are the favorite of everyone on this channel. PROVE ME WRONG.
Your videos need to be longeeeer :(
Gonna be a good night...
Great video! Simply beautiful! Thanks, Deboki!
note to self: stay away from batfish
whats going on at 7:32 ?? I thought i was hallucinating. why is there no comment on whats going on there!?
oh btw thanks for ruining it, with advertisement and just abolishing the AMAZING organism witnessed, without any clue to what it is. you should have rather explain it first before you SLAP ADS on that UNKNOWN ORGANISM that requires lots of questions!!!
"if you were asked to draw a cell, what would you draw?" one from spore of course
Man I loved that game!!
I clean my kitchen room today. I found a fat layer in the upper face of a tall cupboard. There are something live here. ¿Can you make another video about the grease in the lavatory in kitchen, fat in upper face in tall kitchen furnitures? ¿Sewers? ¿Organic trash bin? ¿Hidden dust mites? ¿Poop? Is a big jungle for only one o two videos. :D
Thank you. Wonderful channel.
Anyone knows what's the organism at the end called? I'm talking about the one that seems to be formed for a series of parallel and skewed thin bars.
Opercularia are cool, but their name also sound like something that a Sim from Sims 4 would say questioning something XD
Hey guys... the classification of bacteria in Gram positive and Gram negative has changed. With the wonders of sequencing they are now classified as monoderms ( ex-Gram positive) and diderms (ex-Gram negative). The idea is to be independent of the Gram staining... some bacteria do not stain with Gram ... now they can be classified 😎
I'm pretty sure my shape would be more esthetically pleasing if I was viewed thru a viscous fluid....
Where tf is Hank?
I had a random thought. I have a dehumidifier that takes water out of th air. What might be living in that water? Pollin? mold spores? Bacteria? Or nothing at all..?
OHhh yeah more learning about microbes!
Guys what kind od miraculous lights are you using? I could not find any video on that ?
You life is not in your hands, unless you eat everything. I'm eating more! Just not to much or i'll bust!!!
What an awesome compilation of the Microcosmos! And it's nice hearing you again Deboki.
not hearing hank caught me of guard. also don't be shameful Deboki, tardigrades do look weird
Awesome 🔬😍
how do you see microorganisms with so many colors? is an optical microscope what you use?
I don't usually care for biology, but this, this is interesting stuff
Lol I scrolled down through the comments and Jesus there's so much hate, y'all need to calm down XDD
I bet somewhere in Disney studio, they are making the next 3d animated movie about microorganism
I don't like her narrating. it's not the has a bad voice or anything, it's just that the other guy does it better. please keep the other narrator ☹️
The diversity of shapes is the number one reason I go microbe hunting! Great video
I can't tell if that Bacillaria is either a colony of microbes or an Ames Window illusion.
There should be a video that covers the topic of pollution in the microcosms and covering micro plastic
Thanks because of your Chanel we bought a microscope
That thing at the end.......What in the actual hell was it? I have sooooo many questions.
Ooh, new narrator!
1:20 My reaction when I run out of avocados...👁👄👁
2:36 this lil guy looks like he wants to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula
Haha when I’m in a bad mood I just bring this page channel up
The shape below the Euglena looks like baby Yoda with small ears at 6:35
am i the only one that saw a couple of angels from evangelion? :p
Did I just see Plankton 2:44?
Does that mean SpongeBob actually wears square pants?
Exactly who I thought of too!
downvoted not for content, but couldn't jive with Bukake's voice. I'm afraid of change.
Hank lures me into a sleep with his voice and Deboki simply hurts my ears. No offense, I'm just sensitive to higher pitched voices.
Good narration 👍
Really great footage of many different micro organisms...
Microcosms is underrated! Very cool.
Love One Another God Bless Everyone
What microscope and video camera was used for this? This is an amazing quality video, all the 3D detail is there and it's so smooth! Kudos! I am sure this was taken using DIC transillumination but I've been looking for good microscope video cameras that are able to take decent images.
If there is such diversity of microscopic life in our planet, imagine that our planet is a microcosm of the universe - what strange lifeforms live out there? And if they are intelligent, do they look anything like us? How do they communicate? Books like "Life in the Universe" (MV Summers) are fascinating to me. And watching the news coming out of the Pentagon lately only makes it more interesting.
Thank you
Is there a chance for a feature-length film?
no~ chill hanks voice is needed for this. Not saying anyone else is bad or anything, just that Chill Hank is a beautiful thing on par with or even better than Bob Ross
6:30 little astronaut on a spacewalk shape
Miss Hank, seems like another show
It would be really cool if sum genius figured out how to communicate with bacteria, then viruses. Think about it, they obviously communicate among themselves.. for all we know that's all we are to another unfathomable being, to us. .. my point is there's gotta be a certain language beyond the barriers and it would be beneficial to all if we knew how.
Now imagine our whole universe on a slide under an alien "neutron-microscope", what would that being observe? They wouldn't see us, but they'd see the movement of the stars and possibly wonder about life as well.

Poop remember that. the world is full of it. And drink water.
To flush the poop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi, not sure if this question has been raised, but what type of microscope and objective are you using? The images and video resolution are so good. I have an Olympus BX63 with a 60x NA0.7 and a DP74 camera but couldn't get the same image quality. Help please.
I have a Swift SW380T and a new IPad. Looking for a recommendation for a compatible camera for video and stills. Thank you.
The LORD GOD made them all.
