I found this video because I went to the skating rink yesterday with my old skates from 9th grade and I was explaining to my daughter that the skating I do is called shuffling! She and her friends were mesmerized! I still can do it at 47 years old! Just like riding a bike…except I got blister on my toe…but it was so awesome and felt so good to do it! And the whole rink was reserved for one little birthday party so I had the place to myself! I had the DJ play all my faves like Dont stop the rock!! Such a blast!

Awesome song.. I sure miss my roller skating back in the late 60s and early 70s it was the best... I had Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, and Black Sabbath, and many more songs back then..... ❤

@@Dontdothat5300 I still got it Dave I bought me some skates lol its my second weekend back and the kids are viewing me as a threat Lmao by holding up their index fingers as to say hey im # 1 here lol , but what they don't know is i know a few self help upgrades only the old schoolers know, and this past weekend was only my second week back lol ill be smoking them after a few more sessions lol

Always had my whole lower body and footwork down, but never knew what to do with my hands. I have to learn to loosen up my upper body so I can have everything in sync and look smooth lol.

I grew up skating there until my mid 30’s. I miss it! Lol Is it still open as I heard it closed down.
It closed down in the beginning of COVID but it opened back up!

I want to learn how to shuffle. Like is there a pattern or combination you do or do you just go to the beat? I've just always wondered how everyone is in sync with each other. I love semoran skateway, glad they opened back up.
I believe going with the beat is far more important than doing patterns or combinations at first. As you get the beat down then you would progressively introduce patterns then combinations. I am speaking out of my league but lets hope someone can chime in. Cheers.

yeah, start with the beat. the most simple forms of shuffling is just a bounce and push on each beat. the bounce can be as small as a bend of the knees. down on one beat, up and push on the next. naturally this'll start forcing you to add a little sway on that push as you get into the music.
as you get better, and learn new moves, you can start adding them in here and there. but feeling the music comes first.

@@rollerkingonce what they are doing in this video unfortunately is not shuffling. So many people get "Shuffling" confused with just simply skating around the rink as fast as you can maybe taking your skates in and outward but not really "Shuffling." Watch a Tony Zane video or look up Jam Skating, that is Shuffling. Also look up "Jam The Spot" song they have a video with real skaters doing actual "Shuffling." Not trying to be an asshole just trying to educate a little 😁✌️💯

Cut my teeth at that rink. Joining the roller derby in Johnson City Ny. We had way more rhythm. Spent half the night skating. Other half drunk in the woods.

White people's dance skating (shuffle skating) is something far different from black people's. I'm white before you start attacking me for putting down white people, but I have rhythm and soul and I have moves like Jagger 🤣🤣🤣 so I think these white people look funny trying to do things like dance. Especially in skates...
I think people dance and enjoy to the best of their abilities. which is to say better than me. Different styles. Different moves. I love every art form and expression.

I am sure you mean well Anthony. Styles and Skill Levels are always as unique as individuals. Everywhere I have been people express themselves to their best of their skating abilities and they are always happy to showcase them. Some skaters like to show their speed, some their balance, some... their style but we all here enjoy skating for what it is... Skating.. Cheers. Much love!!

Lol this music is the definition of skating rink music where I’m from. We used to make mix tapes in middle school with stuff like Afrika Bambaataa’s planet rock and Kyper songs 😂
I agree about the Skaters ( not shuffling), but the song was on point with skating music, maybe where you are from is not your style but this is what we grew up too in the 80's and 90's
