Absolutely the best review on RUclips of these...and it's always such a surprise with visitors to London that basic cooked from scratch grub CAN be found. I've just started trying to edit films myself and linked here from my first "voice over" video visiting the Crown Cafe by Waterloo bridge. They have a photo on the wall with "best cafe in the world" and on the right day I'm not arguing, but having watched your review of s bacon baguette more testing required :)
I did the job from 92 to 2021 . I was always in a few of them , mostly Warwick avenue and pont Street. They are funny sometimes aren't they. You hear a lot of funny stories about who they have had in the cab. And also a lot of moaning, the jobs gone it not what it was etc. Good video brings back memories. Be lucky mark
went there 8 years ago.Used to be run by a thai woman at night , but alas all the night shelters finished I think. My haunt was St Johns wood between 1988 and 2000.Gr8 place with Les and his home made cooking.Thursday was stew night.Yummy.
Hi Mark! When I worked in Hanover Square I used to go to the cabbies' hut there run by two ladies. Tea was 50p a cup and the bacon & egg doorstop sandwiches were huge. The food was all home cooked and VFM. Guess it's not there any more as it doesn't feature in your list. I know the square was affected during the Crossrail construction work.
The shelter is still there and it would be great to see it open again. Fingers crossed once the square has finished its development. Thanks for watching!
The Crossrail works (now the Elizabeth Line) are now completed, but no sign of any change of status to the cabmens shelter there. Any trade knowledge as to the future?
I used to go there in the 90s at night when Les and Ray ran the place.Gr8 homecooked food and a gr8 crowd.Sadly Les and half the guys that went in there are dead aswell.

Used to go in a greasy spoon cafe in Eversholt Street at Euston that was full of black cab drivers. Used to have a laugh with them
I had a nice sandwich and cuppa at the shelter on Thurloe Place a few years back. Very interesting places.

Thanks for taking us inside
Something else about London that I didn't know
First, like and comment, that is not bad. Thanks for taking us inside.
Thanks for this!
That's spooky, I'm pretty sure Easton used to frequent the same boozer as me many moons ago. Happy to see he's looking well.
Top bloke!
If I could pick any city in the world that I could visit it would be London.
Sadly Lidija who ran the St John’s Wood shelter for over 10 yrs died the other day. Her sons taken over. She used to do great meals, Hungarian themed.
