I’m convinced 2k has a random cycle of sliders they throw at us weekly, sometimes daily. If the target keeps moving for what works or not, you keep having to make a build that works in each meta. So there’s rng in the game, and rng with the sliders! You have to have 95+ of any attribute for it to be actually dominant. Well rounded builds are cooked because they don’t want you to be able to have one build that can play every game mode and last the year. 2k is actually forcing you to make more builds to be successful. Most egregious money grab ever.

RNG in something called “skill dunk” is pretty trash. They have RNG in shooting, layups, dunks. Everything in the game is random. 50/50 balls cater to the offense 90% of the time. Not only do you have to compete against other players you have to compete against the game making you lose cause it wants too. So trash.

So maybe this is the definition of "skill gap". I've been developing as a slasher since 21. I moved to slashing that year, then 22 I learned how to rim run a little bit, 23 I got a little better with dunking and learned how to skill dunk in 24. In 25 I've been learning how to dribble/cook up/make space and get to the rim but now skill dunks don't work so I'm back to button dunking and real player % for layups, regressing from the skilled aspects of finishing has made me the most effective I've been all year. Problem is I can't "get better" because the mechanics JUST DON'T WORK.
Nah fr, its irritating that i tool the time to get better at getting to the rim and using the “skill dunks” but people who dont use meter with less dunk seem to get rewarded more.
2k ruined basketball with this game. The shooting is too inconsistent (I shoot 60-70%from 3 every year) dunking is almost pure ring so slashers are useless. Dribbling is ass taller guards are almost irrelevant due to small ones being able to bump them so much. Passing is clunky and slow even with big pass accuracy. Somehow even managed to FUCK UP REBOUNDING. You can have the opposing player boxes out and still get snagged. I can bump someone on the perimeter for 15 seconds and then they slip past like I’m not there. Play passing lanes to perfection and the ball goes through my hands. I can be 7’3 with gold paint patroller and a 5’9 runs to the paint holding square and it’s open. Everything about the game is ass.
No one is even talking about how the contact animations dont look like they work properly. Meaning the dunker and defender are not both being put in the animation.

If you had high enough block, and interior you could get a stop that's how it should be. This year is just the dunker getting the contact animation where he could've done a regular dunk.
@MoneyTaIking nah, 24 was broken. If you get put in a contact you just got hope the finisher got the fast meter or the small green window. You would get knocked out of regular dunks, but not contact dunks triggered with the dunk meter.
@ 87 is good too just don’t go in there expecting to dunk the whole team. After that 80 is the next threshold. Anything in between 80-87 is extra or for specific dunk packages. Also make sure your vert is a minimum of 80 if you want to catch bodies consistently. If you’re just making a budget build 70 vert and 80 dunk is enough.
I disagree, I’ve a 6 6 with 93 driving dunk and literally every time I get took out of the dunk animation. 80 driving dunk is all you need with 65 standing dunk, trust me!!!!
I can say its pretty annoying how they keep making these adjustments, and then we have to re-adjust to the changes.. I totally stopped using rhythm shooting because i've had it with the changes.. now i feel its the tempo that's brutally precise to "green". I can't say i know about the posterizer badge and the metered contested dunks work this year, but if he messed with it then i feel you.
everything you're saying about dunk widows fluctuation is exactly what I get with my layups. I can see and feel my layup animation (both driving and quick toss ins from under the basket) go from smooth animation to either sluggish dumb tossups or quick throw aways the moment a defender steps near me. They don't even have to have their hands up or high interior defense. Just being near people often times makes them toss up bs OR lock them in a smooth-brain shot animation to set up a block animation
They need to remove triggering the dunk meter and allow for dunk timing to be just like lay up timing on or real player % with the option for meter on or off. Also bring back the rt lt dunk modifiers and being able to trigger different dunks with modifiers and stick movements. Add that to the lay ups too.
I made a build with 96 driving dunk at the start of this season and it went as followed: 1st week i was unstopable once there werent multiple ppl contesting my meter dunks from under or infront of the rim...2nd week couldn't finish 1v1 contact dunk animations as often regardless of who was under the rim....3rd week non meter dunks were going in almost everytime regardless of contest while meter dunks were almost guaranteed to miss....Now Its leveled out a bit where i can make them, but i noticed that on my other builds with lower ratings i actually make more meter dunks than with this one which defeats the whole purpose of making it
My first build I made was 5’11 87 driving dunk and his finishing is still better than my 6’1 89driving dunk. Im glad im not the only one that noticed this
the thing that pisses me off the most about the dunks is how they get canceled and they way you miss them especially if you consider a realism argument. late rotations from helpside get yammed on 9/10 times in the nba thats not a dunk of the year highlight play thats regular basketball. especially because people dont even contest the dunk in the nba most of the time because they dont wanna be put on a poster and IF they do its a foul most of the time regardless becasue thats the most you can do on a late help rotation. BUT in the game people are allowed to run DIRECTLY into your approach, your lane even at the point where youve already taken off or are about to take off which in real life is on all accounts a blocking foul and 2k KNOWS this too becasue anytime somebody does this when its NOT a dunk attempt people will get a blocking foul. and then theres the other way people get canceled and that is if anyone even touches them slightly while in the air. what i dont understand about that part in 2k is if the contact is excessive enough to completly cancel my dunk (most of the time by arms reaching over which means the verticality rule does NOT apply) THEN HOW THE FUCK ARE THEY DOING IT WITHOUT FOULING ME??????? the game also allows people to completly undercut you when youre already in the air which also somehow leads to them canceling your dunk without a foul. Something i have noticed a lot with taller builds this year and even a bit last year is that as soon as you get slightly low on stam like 50% anyone could take you out of a dunk even a 5'9" this year.
That rhythm shooting change messed me up so bad I usually am around 60 percent (mainly bc of dumb shots) but just this weekend I prolly shot around 30 percent maybe lower
You have to have stats that flow into eachother properly balanced if you want to posterize often you have to put yourself in position and in order to get into position you have to be moving fast in order to move fast you have to have speed with ball….. get my drift???
I made a 96 driving and plus 1 Poster to Legend. What pisses me off is that there’s so much RNG when you meter dunk with a high driving, but someone with 80 driving will press square and dunk the whole team including the big. It’s usually the smallest person on the other team too
I have 94 driving dunk on a 6’10” and I haven’t realized there being a ton of RNG, if I time it well, I’ve hit crazy posters. The thing that feels very RNG is the alley-oops for sure
i noticed this with shooting too! I had a jumpshot I felt so good with. Didn’t play for a day. Got back on and no matter what I do (Even literally tapping the shoot button) everything is VERY LATE WTF
My issues with meter dunking really is getting taken out of dunk animations when i have lots of contact dunk animations as well as the slightly earlys and slightly lates like you said.
I started with a player that has decent slashing, then went to a 99 dunk. Since my slashing wasn't as strong I picked my spots, so now with the 99 I don't miss, maybe once in a blue moon, go backward and then come back to your real slasher. Also try some finesse, it shouldn't always be about catching bodies, it's getting a bucket first.
It’s alright I got a 99 dunk 6’8 anyone smaller it’s poster time but bigs is more difficult you gotta have them off there feet if there sitting in paint it ain’t gonna happen so it’s not that bad
I have a 6’4 build with 99 driv dunk & a 6’3 with 96 driv dunk, I tried messing with the states like adding strength etc… but I think dunking is lowkey bad on 25, 24 driving dunk was way better but, besides that everything else is straight on.

my lebron build (main) has 96 driving, speed and MOMENTUM is the MOST IMPORTANT. times when I am running full speed at the rim, i can contact dunk 90% of the time and 99% if its on a guard
It’s a better game in almost every aspect from a gameplay standpoint. 25 is like if 2k18, 21 and NBA Live all got together and decided to make an abomination of a basketball game that is devoid of fun and basketball logic. Pivot year like 18 where they try to change everything and reinvent the wheel and end up making it worse in almost every way imaginable

missing posters they put you in when you press square and being booted out of dunk animations is unacceptable imo if 2k puts me in the animations it should go in unless it gets blocked the way 2k operates you would think different devs make the game every year also how is it that there are damn near never any development leaks on this game I see leaks from AAA studios damn near constantly nowadays but 2k I do not think ive ever seen one with any insight on why game play was changed or things we like werent carried over to the next game
The dunk meter this year is the worst we’ve ever had…no green in the meter to signify a good or bad take, every missed dunk meter is a “bad shot selection” even if your wide open, everything is “very early” or “very late”. Theirs no way to even improve because it’s just random.
It’s the meter you using I switch from the circle to the arrow meter and I green most of my contact dunks but I also have a 99 drive dunk and a 95 vertical

Much preferred dunking on the last 2k to this one. Was it fair and balanced? Probably not. Was it fun? Yes! Feel as though its reversed now on this game, if it was somewhere in the middle I think most people would be happy, although I appreciate that isn't the easiest thing to balance! That rhythm shooting change messed me up so bad I usually am around 60 percent (mainly bc of dumb shots) but just this weekend I prolly shot around 30 percent maybe lower

I made a 96 driving and plus 1 Poster to Legend.
What pisses me off is that there’s so much RNG when you meter dunk with a high driving, but someone with 80 driving will press square and dunk the whole team including the big. It’s usually the smallest person on the other team too
I have 94 driving dunk on a 6’10” and I haven’t realized there being a ton of RNG, if I time it well, I’ve hit crazy posters. The thing that feels very RNG is the alley-oops for sure

My issues with meter dunking really is getting taken out of dunk animations when i have lots of contact dunk animations as well as the slightly earlys and slightly lates like you said.

I started with a player that has decent slashing, then went to a 99 dunk. Since my slashing wasn't as strong I picked my spots, so now with the 99 I don't miss, maybe once in a blue moon, go backward and then come back to your real slasher. Also try some finesse, it shouldn't always be about catching bodies, it's getting a bucket first.

I have a 6’4 build with 99 driv dunk & a 6’3 with 96 driv dunk, I tried messing with the states like adding strength etc… but I think dunking is lowkey bad on 25, 24 driving dunk was way better but, besides that everything else is straight on.
What really was wrong with the 24 dunk meter it punished defenders who rotated late on defense or where in bad position

Badge I’m so lost everyone saying it’s so easy to shoot after patch but after patch I can’t shoot at all, I can’t even make open shots with 94 3pt shot no matter what jumpshot I use, pre patch I could shoot lights out from deep even from the logo
my lebron build (main) has 96 driving, speed and MOMENTUM is the MOST IMPORTANT. times when I am running full speed at the rim, i can contact dunk 90% of the time and 99% if its on a guard
I implore you guys to try it next time, speed boost into a driving with a decent run up WILL get you a yam if you time it really well

It’s a better game in almost every aspect from a gameplay standpoint. 25 is like if 2k18, 21 and NBA Live all got together and decided to make an abomination of a basketball game that is devoid of fun and basketball logic. Pivot year like 18 where they try to change everything and reinvent the wheel and end up making it worse in almost every way imaginable

missing posters they put you in when you press square and being booted out of dunk animations is unacceptable imo if 2k puts me in the animations it should go in unless it gets blocked the way 2k operates you would think different devs make the game every year also how is it that there are damn near never any development leaks on this game I see leaks from AAA studios damn near constantly nowadays but 2k I do not think ive ever seen one with any insight on why game play was changed or things we like werent carried over to the next game

The dunk meter this year is the worst we’ve ever had…no green in the meter to signify a good or bad take, every missed dunk meter is a “bad shot selection” even if your wide open, everything is “very early” or “very late”. Theirs no way to even improve because it’s just random.

It’s the meter you using I switch from the circle to the arrow meter and I green most of my contact dunks but I also have a 99 drive dunk and a 95 vertical

The direction 2k is going is limiting how much control you have over your player and random animations that really don’t matter whether your right or wrong it’s going to do whatever the RNG wants you to do…..

I’ve gotten one slightly late/early this whole season
I sometimes use the stick for meter dunks but I get better dunks when I use stick like people would in 2K20 I even get contacts with square
I’ve got 93 dunk on my 6,6 Zion build and usually get loads of dunks maybe because it’s got 93strength
The dunk meter is most definitely broken and random especially for standing dunks. It is impossible to time standing dunks with sum1 there

Much preferred dunking on the last 2k to this one. Was it fair and balanced? Probably not. Was it fun? Yes! Feel as though its reversed now on this game, if it was somewhere in the middle I think most people would be happy, although I appreciate that isn't the easiest thing to balance! I also personally hate the new dunk meters compared the last years one, but that's just me
imo it was pretty fair. like the logic to it was pretty simple. whoever has proper positioning wins. if thats not fair idk what is. and its not like centers couldnt cancel your dunks regardless.

You guys should have never complained about dunking in 2k23. If was perfect! You could definitely stop the animation if you had high interior defense or if you cut the lane off. You guys cry too much as a community that’s why 2k25 sucks. You guys are the reason this game is dead.
