I've found all of the AoW 4 content to be very high quality and their free updates continue to improve the base game with better UI/AI/balance as the last year has gone by. Really happy with the devs here. I loved Planetfall but this is certainly another step forward in the franchise.
Yeah, I keep being amazed about the quality of the new updates myself. The Mystic Update did shake up the game on so many levels. And it feels a lot better than before. Just like with the last patch, It's really clear that the devs care about their game being fun and I love it. Even if the game is costy and DLC-bloated which I usually despise.

Triumph Studios always deliver, I pre-ordered the game and the expansion pass without even thinking. I honestly feel they are still undervalued in the gaming industry despite being a staple to me for 25 years. I can't wait what they will decide for the future of this game.
Thank you for the review! Really wanted to hear your thoughts about it :) I reeeeealy like this DLC, especially the new lords and how varied they are. I was afraid they will only allow for "eldrich Yog'sothoth lord" playthroughs, but I've already done half of one crusader kingdom and I wanna go with a "mummy" playthrough next :D Can't wait for build videos!

I find it frustrating. The base game content is pretty limited. Essentially gonna be another one of those $100 games if you want all the DLC. Which is always super annoying.
I don't get why people have problems with adding paid dlcs...
More content that doesn't feel like stuff removed from the base game on purpose (like fighting games for example, or skins in any other genre).
Here this dlc changes so much of the core mechanics like how units evolve and gain ranks, all the stats changed, rank 1 units are now solid strategy options given that they're not overshadowed by higher tier units anymore because those higher tier units come later in the game and have higher requirements.
A new layer too with the umbral abyss that is very rewarding and opens fast travel in weird ways and add another layer of randomness and strategic value. (you want to control it or at least keep an eye on these so that no unsuspected enemies catch you off-guard.)
The new random world you can create on one click and discover the rules as you play.
The new ruler type, the new tomes, the reworked mystic culture with 3 sub choices, 2 new races, new traits, new mounts... ONE DLC.
We're not talking about skins here... (which there are a bunch of new ones included too)
Here you see people complaining about a 200$ full game (which is not the case BTW) with a lot going for it, but less about 200 to 400 or more for just ONE SKIN in other games?
Give me 200$ worth of dlc of this quality on this game, I'll buy it no questions asked.
Well the cool part about AoW 4 is that the devs constantly push out new updates that are working for the base game. So the game gets expanded even for people who don't want or can't buy more DLC's. Also DLC's consequently grow cheaper during sales.
Yes, AoW 4 IS a costy game, but it's at least one that offers some good stuff for your money. Can't say the same about all costy DLC games out there.
@@bg3841 Not sure how its limited? even with DLC its going to have limits but the base game is super fun without the DLC and has tons of play through options. AoW4 is worth the 50 dollar tag just for the base game as it has good amount of options and the devs add free stuff and culture reworks every DLC. If its not your cup of tea, i understand but base game isn't like WH3 where some factions don't perform well without the DLC content. All 4 DLC's can be ignored and all the cultures will perform just fine.
Been PC gaming since 1988 and AoW4 is definitely one of the top 5 PC games of all time. Don't know what would be at or over it, maybe one of the Starcrafts, Diablos, Baldur Gates, something like that. Base game is worth $50-$60 and with all the expacs it's definitely worth $90-$100. If you feel like that's too much, you can wait for the inevitable sales. There's a lot of talented devs putting out substantial content for this game and really improving things. Personally, I'm more than happy to support these efforts by purchasing full seasons on both Steam and GOG. Can't wait for season 2, whatever that might bring!

The Expansion pass is probably the most value for money I've bought in years. Triumph Studios is saving Paradox reputation in the past 1,5 years. Loving this one, I do need to click something in my head to play this evil I must say, but man is it fun to use your vassals as actual resources !
